Students wash/sanitise their hands immediately before and after playing on the equipment, a timetable has been established to allow a different group of students each day on the equipment and the equipment needs to be cleaned after each use. The cleaning is a massive undertaking and so the decision was made to open the equipment only once per day at the 2pm afternoon tea break. The equipment is then cleaned from 2.25-3.00pm. The organisation for something we previously “just let our students use every day” took some time and I thank the staff at Greenwich Rd campus for implementing all the guidelines. Finally! The next phase of work on the oval can then begin. Safe Active Travel Map Last year, teachers Emily Tamborini and Siobhan Harburg were successful in applying for and receiving a Lane Cove Council Sustainability Small Grant. The grant was for the creation of a site specific guide/map to provide creative solutions to encourage our school community to be active using their own personal modes of transport when students are arriving and departing from school. Mrs Tamborini and Miss Harburg utilised various resources to create a map that details various public transport routes, safe bike paths and recommended walking routes both to and between our two school campuses. The map is being produced by BugMedia in the format of a Z-Card. This is a unique foldout with hard outer covers that allows information to be condensed into a retainable and highly portable format. Issue 20 Term 2 Week 9 26 June 2020

Hi Parents, Carers and Friends of Greenwich Public School

The playground equipment at Greenwich Rd was re-opened this week and the excitement from our K-2

students was joyous!

As with all school processes in the current climate, guidelines from the NSW Department of Education

must be adhered to. Students wash/sanitise their hands immediately before and after playing on the

equipment, a timetable has been established to allow a different group of students each day on the

equipment and the equipment needs to be cleaned after each use. The cleaning is a massive undertaking

and so the decision was made to open the equipment only once per day at the 2pm afternoon tea break.

The equipment is then cleaned from 2.25-3.00pm. The organisation for something we previously “just let

our students use every day” took some time and I thank the staff at Greenwich Rd campus for

implementing all the guidelines. Seeing the reaction from the students when it’s their day on the equipment

has made it all worth it.

Build Update

The new boundary fence along River Rd and up the western side of the Kingslangley campus is almost

completed. There a couple of gates to be finished including the large gate on the River Rd driveway

access. This will be installed when all the work on the oval has been completed.

I am hesitant to write in this newsletter that our demountable classrooms are due to be removed this

weekend for fear of tempting fate, however all the remaining demountable classrooms on the Kingslangley

Rd campus are due to be removed this weekend! Finally! The next phase of work on the oval can then

begin.

Safe Active Travel Map

Last year, teachers Emily Tamborini and Siobhan Harburg were successful in applying for and receiving

a Lane Cove Council Sustainability Small Grant. The grant was for the creation of a site specific guide/map

to provide creative solutions to encourage our school community to be active using their own personal

modes of transport when students are arriving and departing from school. Mrs Tamborini and Miss

Harburg utilised various resources to create a map that details various public transport routes, safe bike

paths and recommended walking routes both to and between our two school campuses.

The map is being produced by BugMedia in the format of a Z-Card. This is a unique foldout with hard

outer covers that allows information to be condensed into a retainable and highly portable format.

Mrs Tamborini has recently been overseeing the completion of our school’s Active Travel Map Z-Card and

we will launch our Safe Active Travel Map during education week in early August.

New NSW school curriculum – Every student prepared and ready for their future

On Tuesday the Premier has announced significant reforms, with a new school curriculum to be delivered

over the next four years, including:

• stronger foundations in literacy and numeracy with new English and Maths syllabuses for

Kindergarten to Year 2 by 2022

• more time for teaching essential knowledge and skills in each subject by 2022

• Year 11 and 12 learning will be better linked to future work and study with new key learning

areas and career pathways by 2022.

The reforms are based on the recommendations of the NSW Curriculum Review led by Professor Geoff

Masters - the first significant review of the NSW curriculum since 1989.

Schools will be supported to implement changes as a result of curriculum reform and we will receive more

detailed information early next term.

Attached to this newsletter is a summary Fact sheet for parents and carers

School Photos

School photos are scheduled for Monday 27 July (week 2 next term). Only individual photos, class photos

and group photos of school leaders and school house captains will be taken. There will be no other group

photos and no sibling photos taken this year. As with all external to school providers, relevant hygiene,

distancing and safety protocols will be adhered to.

More detailed information is attached to this newsletter.

A great day weather wise for our cross country carnival today! Best of luck to all competitors.

TAX TIME REMINDER: GPS P&C VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTIONS

P&C Voluntary contributions can be made via Flexischools. The contributions go directly to the school in

support of additional teaching resources, equipment and facilities. The suggested amount is aligned to the

number of children you have at GPS.

approaching, it is a good time to make these contributions.

Please remember the contributions are voluntary so please only give the amount you are comfortable with.
