The Concept – ‘wire-frame’

•To build an evidence based visual model of the Ouse Washes that:

•Represents a commonly agreed picture of what the Washes do and demonstrates the importance of the system

•Presents an agreed view of how the system works

•Demonstrates the multiple benefits (interaction between): agriculture, local economy, wildlife & nature

•…forms a foundation for agreeing the future priorities, and possible precursor to a combined strategy.

The Ouse Washes

• Stores flood water from the Great Ouse River

• Protects river banks downstream to Kings Lynn from being over-topped

• Defends important agricultural land and properties from flooding throughout the Fens

• Provides washland grazing pastures and wetland habitats for the benefit of agriculture, nature and wildlife

• Project Delivered over a 4 months programme

• Delivered on time and in budget

• No ongoing subscription or data costs costs

• EA will create a website to hold the data for its own an partner use

• The ongoing costs or running the website are low (hosting)

• Layers can be added to the models by partners

• If used - this resource can become a low cost partnership and collaboration resource for the Ouse Washes
