Baptized in Christ Penelope James King

Abrielle Grace McNearney

Congratulations to their parents, Godparents, and Grandparents.

Please join us in welcoming them into our Parish Family.

Faith Sharing 17h Sunday in Ordinary Time A buried treasure, a net thrown into the sea to catch fish, a pearl of great price, these are images Jesus tells that the Kingdom of God is like. He used the ordinary items of his contemporaries to help them realize that GOD is with them in their “searching”, “fishing”, and “purchases”. Our loving Father-God is with us now in the hopes for an end to the Covid pandemic, in the many ways that families, neighbors, store clerks, police, and medical teams are helping others.

Faith Formation Continues for Your Family by using

the “Celebrating Sunday for Catholic Families” 2019-20 book pages 102-103. The question in “Living the Word” is do you realize the depth of God’s love for you?”

Confirmation Candidates and their families eagerly await the strengthening by the Holy Spirit. Please visit the FORMED website for continued formation at YDisciple-Confirmation.

First Eucharist Please continue to pray for the children receiving the Eucharist for the 1st time on August 8, 2020.

Quotes Needed Everyone is dealing with a difficult and uncertain time right now, it’s some-thing we all have in common. To help people deal with the pandemic, Fr. Tim would like to put different inspirational quotes on the end of each pew. The quotes should be related to getting through difficult and uncertain situations. Please submit your favorite quote from any Pope, Saint, or Scripture Passage using the link here or by sending to either rectory. https://stsmaryandursula.org/quote-submissions

Example: Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

Help Needed We livestream the mass every day at either St. Mary or St. Ursula. If you have a little bit of time in your schedule and are able to help livestream on one or more days, please contact Edith Bishop at 412-486-4100 or [email protected].

Temporary Change in Livestream Masses Due to circumstances beyond our control, the 9:00 am weekday Mass and 4:00 pm Saturday Vigil Mass will be done at St. Mary until at least July 30, 2020. We will be pleasantly surprised if it’s earlier and ask your understanding if it must be extended beyond the 30th. Thank you for your patience.

Special Days This Week June 26 – Saints Anne & Joachim, parents of Mary, grandparents of Jesus. See the window in our church with Saint Anne and Mary as a young girl. Celebrate your grandparents today. June 27 – Saint Cyril of Alexandria is known as the “doctor of the Incarnation” because of his thoughtful writings on the nature of Christ’s birth and divine nature. July 30 – Saint Peter Chrysologus, whose name means “golden word”, for he was an exceptional homilist who could convey the intent of Scripture to his hearers in brief talks. July 31 – Saint Ignatius of Loyola aspired to be a soldier but his military career ended when a cannon-ball shattered his leg. He went back to school in his thirties but didn’t graduate till he was 43 years old. He went on to be a priest and founder of the Jesuits. The Spiritual Exercises he composed are still used by many as guides during retreats and daily living. August 1 – Saint Alphonsus Liguori became a lawyer by the age of 16, went on to become a priest and founder of the Redemptorist order. He was deeply devoted to our Blessed Mother. The Liguorian Magazine, named after this doctor of the Church, is published by the Redemptorist order.

A Share In God’s Kingdom Today concludes a three-week series of Gospel texts in which we have listened to a total of seven parables about the Kingdom. The believer is asked to consider the request that God made of Solomon in today’s first reading: “Ask something of me and I will give it to you” (1 Kings 3:5). Today’s parables about the treasure buried in the field and the pearl of great price should prompt us to answer, “A share in your kingdom, O God!” Today we discover that the kingdom of God is beyond value, a priceless treasure. Un-fortunately, our culture bombards us with things that it believes are priceless treasures—the bigger and better SUVs, anti-aging and anti-balding creams and salves, miracle diets, and so much more. Having a share in God’s kingdom and helping to bring about that kingdom are the greatest treasures that we can ever hope to gain.

Which Way Do I Go? - By Christine Miller What are you looking for in life? Everybody is searching for something! Make no mistake, things we long for can often be good things, as in todays reading, the merchant shows us what the kingdom of heaven is like. It is made up of people like us looking for happiness. In some ways, the things we seek can make us happy, but only till something else comes along. Seek the Lord your Savior to fill that happiness and you will see it grow into Joy! Then your whole life will change!

“Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.” Psalm 25:5

Youth Ministry at St. Mary

July 26: Ultimate Frisbee and Bonfire - discussion on the Kingdom of God.

Prayers for Healing and Hope During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic During this Coronavirus pandemic, many are tempted to fear, anxiety and perhaps even despair. Some have lost their precious lives, some have lost those whom they love, some have suffered through the debilitating effects of this illness, some have lost their jobs, their income, and most have encountered much disruption to the normal flow of their daily lives.

Every crisis in life is also an opportunity to turn to our beloved Savior in trust and complete abandonment so as to rest in His merciful hands. To rest in the hands of God means we are secure, despite the uncertainty of life. It means we are free to love God and others, despite the challenges we face. It means we raise our eyes to Heaven, rather than look down in fear. - https://mycatholic.life/catholic-prayers/a-prayer-for-healing-and-hope/

When evil darkens our world, give us light. When despair numbs our souls, give us hope. When we stumble and fall, lift us up. When doubts assail us, give us faith. When nothing seems sure, give us trust. When ideals fade, give us vision. When we lose our way, be our guide! That we may find serenity in Your presence, and purpose in doing Your will. - John D. Rayner
