St. Charles Borromeo Church May 20, 2018
St Charles Parish Council met on Thursday, May 10.
We thanked the four outgoing Council members who
completed their three-year terms of office, 2015-2018:
Edward Ibos
Kenneth Jakubowski
Michael Mallis
Richard Swaggard
(President of Council, 2017-2018)
At that meeting, we also welcomed the four new Council
members elected in May to the 2018-2021 term:
Paul Koenig
Rita Skrovan
Sarah Stranko
Diane Turan
Parish Council also elected their officers for the upcoming
year, 2018-2019;
President: Rob Dufala
Vice-President: Fran Leisz
Secretary: Judy Lachvayder-Frazier.
Parish Council’s final meeting of this term will be Thursday,
June 14. The 2018-2019 Council will be installed in office at the
10:00am Sunday Mass on September 9. The first formal meeting of
the new Council term will be Thursday, September 13.
The second major consultative group at St Charles is our Parish
Finance Council. The Finance Council prepares and monitors our
annual budget, conducts the My Fair Share program, consults with
our Education Foundation Board, publishes the September Finan-
cial Report to the Parish, and oversees the funds in our Youth
Group Trust and in our Vocation Scholarship Fund. Thank you to
Mary Raymont and to Maria Whidden for their years of faithful
service on Finance Council as they now conclude their terms of
office. Welcome to the two new members on Finance who will join
us at our June meeting: Allesan Armstrong and Sarah Stranko.
The countdown has begun for Carnival 2018! Next Sunday,
May 27, is the first $500 Sellers’ Appreciation Raffle. Every time
you sell eight Grand Raffle tickets—white or blue—fill out another
Sellers’ Appreciation Raffle Ticket. This year’s Carnival will give
us an all-concrete Charles Avenue parking lot/playground. (We
have already received a $76,000 direct grant for this project; we
hope to “make up the balance needed” for the entire project with
this year’s Carnival’s proceeds.) Additional tickets are available
from the Parish Office.
Speaking of the Carnival, this weekend we are recruiting
workers for this year’s five-day summer extravaganza. You will
find sign-up tables in the church lobbies. It takes eight hundred
volunteers to make the Carnival “happen.” Each year we
“expand” a little and additional workers are always needed.
Also, to volunteer, or for more information, email
Carnival dates? Wednesday to Sunday, July, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15.
Dear St. Charles Family,
My farewell Mass and reception last Sunday were
unforgettably beautiful and memorable. I thank all of
you who made it so special and were present to
celebrate this day with me. I am grateful for all your
gifts, notes, and prayers.
My heart is filled with much joy and gratitude for
having met you, for having loved you with all my
heart, and for having experienced your love in return
in so many different ways over the years.
It has been a privilege to be your pastoral
associate. I have loved working with all the genera-
tions that make up this parish. I thank God for the
countless blessings I have received from my time
with you these past 25 years.
Your love will always travel with me. Wherever
God leads my path, St. Charles will always be ‘home’
to me.
I love you and I will miss you!
Love, Sr. Denise Marie
