St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School www.stcharlesschoolfw.org [email protected] 2604843392 Newsletter February 6, 2015 Dear Parents and Students, I hope you are well. I wanted to update you on Father Jacob’s bariatric surgery this past Tuesday. The surgery was successful and Father Jacob is recovering nicely. Father Jacob wanted to extend thanks for the many prayers that have been offered on his behalf. We should see him out and about later next week! Please keep in your prayers the soul of Mrs. Amanda Espy who passed away unexpectedly last Friday. She is the mother of Kaden in grade 6 here at St. Charles and the wife of John Espy. Thank you for remembering the family in your intentions. Also, please keep in prayer the soul of Mr. Edward Morris who passed away unexpectedly this past weekend. He is the husband of Mary Lou, who has substitute taught for us over the years, and the Father & Grandfather to our Morris and Tippmann families. Thank you for remembering the family in your intentions. Regarding weather delays and closings As parents, you always have the right to keep your children at home if you deem the weather is too hazardous to make the drive to school. I do understand that we have parents who drive great distances to attend our school and that weather and/or road conditions may be different twenty, or even thirty, minutes away from our school, thus prohibiting attendance under certain circumstances. However, as we do not have buses, which creates various concerns for our local school corporations, and as we have few student drivers, as Bishop Dwenger High Schools does, we have more control over whether to hold school or not. When we have a delay, we will try to inform our parents by 7:45 a.m., at the latest if we are moving to a closing. Please understand, we are a large school. Our Childcare Program opens at 6:30 a.m. even on delay days, and by 7:45 a.m. we already have over 50 students here in our program. Your driveway, or local road, may be slippery at this time of the morning, but 15% of our students have already made it safely to school. With the extra 90 minutes of sunlight and travel most of the main roads are usually in good condition by 9:20 a.m. Remember, I want people to be safe, so as a levelheaded parent, use your best judgement, just as we try to do here at school. I thank you for your cooperation and common sense, and I am starting to look forward to an early spring. Where’s Waldo? Better yet, where’s Sister Genevieve? Sister Genevieve has been in Brazil (the country, not the Indiana town) for the past few weeks visiting her fellow Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart who maintain a missionary branch in Brazil. Here is a bit of an email she shared with me. Please keep Sister Genevieve in your prayers as well as all of her fellow sisters. Their Order is doing great works of evangelization in Brazil. From Sister: Happy Wednesday! Sr. Joyce reminded me this morning that it was hump day basically half of our time here in Brazil will be over today. Travels were uneventful, though long. From when we left the motherhouse grounds to drive to O´Hare to fly Chicago Miami Sao Paulo Belem and the drive then to the convent in Icoraci was about 28 hours. I did sleep on the planes so was not as tired as could be expected. Temperatures are 7585, humidity level is very high since this is tropical and the rainy season. It rains some every day and then it is a major downpour for 1545 min or so. We have not had much outdoor time, though I try to sit on the porch and read a bit every day when we have ´free´ time. Much of our time has been with individual meetings with the Sisters. Three women were welcomed into the Postulancy and our temporarily professed Sister renewed her vows. These were two different ceremonies on Sunday. We also attended a special liturgy with the archbishop at the basilica on Monday for the celebration of Consecrated Life. Many Sisters from the region were in attendance at this. I was following the snow reports in Fort Wayne. The pictures made it all look so beautiful! :) In closing, we still have pockets of flu and cough here and there, so wash those hands and remember that students should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. I look forward to seeing some of you at the Girl Scout sponsored FatherDaughter Dance Friday evening. I believe tickets can still be purchased at the cafeteria door Friday evening if you misplaced your order form. Thank you for your children, and please include our school community in your prayers. Thanks Rob S.
