PawPrints Magazine's HOMELESS COVER MODEL

Going on vacation this month? Don’t forget your best friend! My name is Jobi and I’m the male

Basset Hound/Yellow Lab mix you see on the cover. Pictured here below me is

my house mate, Lucy. She’s a short-legged

black and white Basset Hound mix girl. We were

both adopted out by Adopt-an-ANGEL over the last year, but have

been returned. You see, our mommy and daddy broke up and neither

could take care of us separately. It makes us sad to be homeless

again and we are hoping that you can turn our luck around. While we don't

have to be adopted together, it would be nice

if we were. Lucy is an absolute delight -

easygoing, great with kids, cats and dogs. As for me, I’m a loving, friendly sweetheart. We both walk well on a leash and are

house-trained, spayed/neutered, on heartworm prevention and have fantastic house manners. To adopt one or both of us, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557. We’d like to thank Dick Parrott for

snapping our photos and we hope that the vacation photos you take in your future will always include us!

I’m Downtown Judy Brown and I am a 1½-year-old Pit

Bull. My life did not start out so great - I was found tied up

to a tree in the yard of an abandoned house. I had no food, water or shelter. I was skin and bones when Animal Control found me. Luckily,

Wilmington Animal Healthcare has been taking care of me

until I find my forever home. I have put on some weight and

have been working on my manners. I am working on

sitting on command and walk-ing on a leash. I am also

working on house-training. I am current on all my vaccines, have been spayed and am also current on my heartworm and flea preventions. I like to play with other dogs. I might have too much energy for a home with small children, but I do like to play with older kids. If you would like to meet me, call 910-791-7101 or

stop by Wilmington Animal Healthcare.

I am sponsored by Wilmington Animal Healthcare. Thank you!

Hey there! My name is Emmett. I

am a 7-year-old Chesapeake Bay Retriever/mutt mix who is in search of a fantastic home. Although I am 7, I am a kid at heart who loves to play. I can be both the

cuddly dog who will curl up by your side

to watch a movie as well as a good

companion for run-ning errands, or

going on hikes or walks. I also have some boating experience, and would make a great first mate! I do well with adults and older

children and am hoping to find a family or owner who will give me plenty of attention and play time. I am house-

trained, neutered, vaccinated and follow commands such as sit, stay, lie down, and wait. If you are looking for a fun and loyal companion, I am your guy! I am located in Wil-mington and would love for you to call 303-358-4541 and

arrange a meeting or find out more about me.

MISSING CAT

Connor is a 7-year-old male American Longhair (grey and white with a very bushy

grey tail) and weighs approximately 14 pounds. He is an indoor/outdoor cat

and is up-to-date on all his shots. Last seen S. Green Tee Road in Hampstead.

If you have seen him, please call 910-232-4512 or send an email to [email protected].

Hello, friends! I’m a Calico girl named Selena, and this is my

brother, Sonny. He’s a handsome orange and white boy. Our story starts out a bit sad, but we’re sure the happy ending is coming! You

see, we were abandoned in a motel room when our owner lost her job and home. A visitor from Florida

found us, rescued us, and called Cat Adoption Team. Now we’re search-

ing for a loving home where hopefully we can stay together. We make a

great team and would be terrific com-pany for you. And when you’re at work, Sonny and I can keep each

other company! We are very gentle and loving and simply enjoy hanging out at home. We appreciate all the petting we receive and also like to play - alone and with each other.

You might notice that our ears are clipped - this shows that we have

been spayed and neutered. It was probably done when we were kittens. Today, we are just 1-year-old and already vaccinated and litterbox-trained. We get along well with

adults, children and other cats and have affectionate person-alities. Would you like to adopt us? Please call Cat Adop-tion Team at 910-792-9014 and tell them you’d like to know

more. We’re also at Petsmart 7 days a week!

We are sponsored by Katherine Sweeney in loving memory of Colonel, Brillo, Inkie, Crystal and Cassie.

Selena

Sonny

I’m Zelda, an adult Giant Schnauzer female who weighs 85 pounds of full

delight and love! My foster parents say I am the easi-est Giant Schnauzer foster they have ever had. I am truly a delightful ‘big’ girl

with the sweetest personal-ity and I have even made best friends with my foster

sister! I am really the perfect dog who needs a low-key home that will keep me on a consistent schedule. I am

leash-trained, love to go on walks, and I love to go on out-ings where I can meet lots of people. I am great with kids

and don’t ever bark. Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas is looking for a home where someone is home quite a bit with me, and where I can have a fenced-in backyard to run and play, but they might consider no fence for the right home. The person(s) adopting me must be energetic enough to

assure that I get plenty of exercise and they must make me a very important part of my new family. I am most intelligent

and will definitely want a challenge to keep me motivated and happy in my new life with the fortunate family that adopts me! I am up to date on all my vaccinations, am

heartworm negative, and micro-chipped, so to read more about me, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. There you can fill out an application online and view other adoptable rescues. If you need an application mailed or

faxed, call 910-264-8300.

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Insurance Agency in honor of Molly.

I’m a very sweet puppy named

Teddy! Could you use someone cud-dly like me in your life? At just 12-

weeks-old, they tell me I’m a Lab mix

who weighs in at a solid 23 pounds. I

will probably be around 60 pounds fully grown. I was

rescued from a situation of neglect, which has made me a little shy when first meeting you. I warm up QUICKLY and if you have hot dogs to give me, all shyness is GONE! You are my friend for life. I really

enjoy playing with the other dogs at the shelter and would like to have a doggie companion in my new home. I’m friendly and affectionate and am just looking for some

TLC. Oh, one other thing, I do have webbed feet and am so happy to play in my puppy pool. Need a first mate or a

beach buddy? Look no further than me! Call Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 and let’s get acquainted!

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange

in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

I’m Andy, a handsome Schnauzer mix boy who

had a rough start from be-ing born out in the cold in

November. I was also adopted for a very brief

time and returned because I had some fear-based

issues due to lack of so-cialization in the beginning of my precious life. I am now with a foster home who is working with me

and I’m happy to say that I’m flourishing with my daily training exercises and with my loving foster family! I

know sit, stay, down, and I’m even house and crate-trained! I’m looking for a family of adults, or one with older children. I’m a very smart and affectionate boy who would do well in a home with another medium/large sized dog who I could

learn from. I will make a wonderful family companion in the right loving environment. I am neutered and up to date on all shots. Please find out more about me and read my full story at www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. There

you can fill out an application online and view other adopt-able rescues. If you need an application mailed or faxed to

you, please call 910-264-8300.

►PUREBRED YELLOW LAB ALERT! My name is Gary and I am a loveable,

almost purebred yellow Labrador Retriever. I am

a fun-loving boy who likes water and loves tennis

balls just like any Labra-dor. I am neutered, up to date on vaccinations and

heartworm negative. I get along great with kids, cats

and dogs, too. You can find me at Petco on any

Saturday or Sunday from 11am to 5pm.

►My name is Tucker and I am a super sweet boy! I am neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. I am

completely house-trained and have very good house man-

ners. I am around 2 to 3-years-old and I came out of Pender Animal Control back in January during their first septic crisis. I have been

attending adoption fairs ever since, but have been getting overlooked for some reason.

I absolutely love people and I am very low energy. I just want to be with my people and go with the flow - I am flexi-ble. I am a mid-sized dog around 40 pounds and am very eager to please. I do well with toddlers and kids, but not

babies. The crying freaks me out. I also would do better in a home without other cats and dogs since I am a little too inter-

ested in them. So, if you only have room in your home for one animal....CHOOSE ME!

◄Hi there, my name tag says Parker but you can call me "Parker No!" Everyone else does. I am an energetic boy with tons of person-

ality and I love to run and play. My foster home has 6 older dogs living here. BORING! All they

want to do is eat and sleep. I'm a 7-month-old puppy and I'm in the

prime of my life. I think I'm house-trained, my foster family has a dog-

gie-door and I can go out when-ever I need to. For my latest trick,

I tried to jump a 4-foot fence. I think I might be a climber so a 6-foot privacy fence would work better for me. If you want a best friend for life and a reason to get out and play, give

me a call. Just ask for "Parker No!"

►My name is Farrah and I’ve had a really rough

start. Since I am a Staf-fordshire Terrier, I am

looking for someone ex-perienced with my breed.

Since my history is un-known, I am not recom-mended for a family with other pets or small chil-

dren. You can tell by my teeth and the condition I was in that my life was rough before I came to

Adopt-An-ANGEL. Now, I have fattened up, my coat is shiny, my overall health has improved tremendously and I am blossoming. I am abso-lutely devoted to you if you just spend some time with me. I walk well on a leash, am house-trained and heartworm negative. If you look closely into my eyes in this picture, you can almost look into my soul and feel my heartache.

◄There’s just got to be some mistake! How can a

loving, friendly, beautiful girl like me still be homeless? My name is Tori and I’m a 1-year-old female Calico

who has been looking for a home since May of this

year. Believe me, you’ll be doing yourself a favor by adopting me. I love to be

held and kissed, I’m friendly to everyone I meet, and I purr in your arms. Also,

adopting me would free up my cage for some other needy kitty. You’d be a

hero! You won’t be disappointed! Please adopt me today!

►If I look a bit sad, it’s because I don’t understand

why I’m still homeless! You see, due to a family

split-up, I’m all by myself. My name is Ella and I’m

told I look just like a Cata-houla Leopard mix. It’s an

American dog breed, known for being intelligent,

even-tempered and great family members. At just 2-years-old, I’m spayed, vac-cinated and walk well on a leash. I lived with another

dog, too. Come get me!

◄THE PERFECT FAMILY DOG!

My name is Benny (A041873) and I’m a 4-year-old Lab mix

who was made to be a companion for some very lucky

family. I was found as a stray but must

have once been part of a household as I’m friendly to all I meet, including dogs, and

instantly sit on command. I also catch treats in my mouth! I’m smart,

eager to please, and highly loveable. I’M NEUTERED AND CAN GO HOME WITH YOU TODAY!

◄Hello, my name is Jellybean

(A041952) and I’m one of the most affectionate cats you’ll ever have

the good fortune to meet. I will curl my

head into your palm and rub my soft nose on your

fingers. Being touched by humans is

something I greatly welcome! I’m a 1-year-old, grey and

white girl who was found as a stray. Let’s go!

◄I kinda look like one of those little monkeys with the big gold eyes, but I promise you that I’m a cat! My name is Summer (A042181) and I’m completely adorable. Hearts melt all the time over me, so why haven’t I been adopted? I once had a home, but they had no time for me and brought me to the shelter. I love to play, cuddle and purr. Could you give me the love and care I need?

◄You’ll be so

happy to have me

living inside

with you! I love to be with

my humans and am already

neutered and declawed. I’ll need to stay indoors where it’s safe. My name is Rocky (A042948) and I’m an

extremely affectionate 4-year-old boy who lost my home when my owners moved to a cat-prohibited apartment. I’m so very loving - please adopt me!

►Hey there, my name is Mandy

(A043047)! I’m a playful, friendly, and happy girl. I love to interact with people and be kissed and rubbed. Sadly, I

lost my home when the baby became allergic. It’s a true

shame, because I’m so affectionate! I was born with one shortened rear leg, but it doesn’t bother me at all. I run and

jump just fine. I’d be great for the whole family!

EXTREMELY URGENT!! MY TIME IS UP - ADOPT ME!! Why won’t someone bring me

home? My name is Beau (CM3716) and I’m a well-trained, loving and friendly boy who wants nothing more than to belong to a

family again. At just 2-years-old, I have lots of memories to make

with someone special like you. I’m an American Staffordshire Terrier, with perhaps a bit of Boxer mixed in. See that kissable Boxer mouth

of mine? And listen to this: I will come to you with a lot of good qualities. For example, I am house-trained and know how to sit on command. In fact, they gave me good treats while taking my photo and I happily sat down in order to

receive them. I love all the people I meet and am also neu-tered, vaccinated, and heartworm negative. I walk well on a leash and am used to living in a home as part of the fam-ily. A household without other animals or tiny kids would be best for me. I’ve been living here since May 7 and my time is running out! Won’t you please come to the shelter and get to know me? Call Pender County Animal Control

at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196.

I am sponsored by Kathy Lanio. Thank you!

URGENT, URGENT!! I’m Running Out of Time!

It makes absolutely no sense that a family dog like me is

facing an uncertain future at an animal shelter! I am so

comfortable and well-behaved around humans and would fit perfectly into anyone’s home. My name is Buddy (CM3868)

and I’m a male Boxer mix who loves attention, walks well on a leash and knows basic commands. In fact,

when they came to take my photo, I sat down without even being asked - it was as

though I knew exactly what to do. I was found as a stray but it sure seems as though I was part of a family at one time. I get along well with other dogs and love to be cud-dled by humans. I have a quiet, laid-back demeanor and

beautiful brown eyes that will melt your heart. Please come to the shelter and adopt me!! I need your love NOW.

Please call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. They’ll be happy

to give you driving directions or tell you even more!

CAT: Cat Adoption Team

◄Hi! Has adopting a kitten been on your mind lately? How about me? My name is Buffet and I’m a 14-week-old male

kitten. I’m named for my fur, a beautiful buff color.

I was found at Animal Control where I was

being cared for by two feline moms. That’s

how cute I am, I guess! Women just fight over

me. I get along well with people and other cats

and am a darling, sweet boy. I’ve already been

neutered and am vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Take me home today!

◄Don’t you think I’m pretty? Just think how great I’ll look sitting in your house! My name is Margaret and I’m an 8-month-old, black and

white girl who was rescued from a shelter

where I was running out of time. I have a truly fun personality: I love to play and I love to talk, too! As

for my health, I’m spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I hope you’ll consider bringing me home - you’ll be so

happy to share your life with a great girl like me!

◄You are staring deeply into my eyes. You cannot look away. You will be mine! My name is Missy and I’m a 1-year-old Tortie girl who is hoping to convey the depth of my love for you with my soulful gaze. I would be a perfect friend and companion. I get along well with people and cats and LOVE to play with toys. I’m spayed, up to date on shots, vaccinated, and ready to go home!

◄Do you have any windows at your house? I’m betting you do, and I hope you need a friendly cat to take up a spot in front of one of them. My name is Gretchen and I’m a 1-year-old girl who loves to bask in the sunshine streaming from a window. Sadly, it’s hard to do that when you’re homeless and living in a cage. I get along great with adults, kids and cats and am super-sweet. Let’s head to your home real soon!

►You’re not seeing double! We are Loni and Loki, two

ebony brothers, just 14-weeks-

old. Our personalities are very similar, too.

We purr up a storm when held and are

extremely playful and sweet. We get along well with all people: men, women and children, and we also enjoy playing with other

felines. Don’t worry if you can’t adopt both of us - we can be adopted separately into two wonderful homes. Meet us!

►Hello! My name is Caddo and I’m a

1-year-old Tabby boy. If you’re looking for a

very friendly and social companion, I’m your guy! I love everyone and have a great time playing with toys. I get along well with other felines and would be a superb playmate or

cuddlemate for children. My back leg curls under slightly at the toes, but it doesn’t bother me a bit. I run, walk and play just fine. I’m also neutered, vaccinated, and litterbox-trained!

Is this a cute face or what? And check out my adorable little un-derbite - it makes me even more of a heart-melter! My name is Phoebe and I’m a

Pug/Chihuahua mix. I like to be held like a baby in your arms with my belly ex-

posed. I can lay like that forever while you rub your fingers over my tummy. At just 10 pounds and 2-years-

old, I have a lot of wonderful memories to make in the arms of my new

family. I was found as a stray, but I love attention and am extremely friendly to all I meet. Can we please go home together? To drive out and meet me, please call Brunswick County Animal Control at 910-754-8204. I’ll

be waiting with a big smile on my face just for you!

I am sponsored by Willetts Horse Farm, Bolivia, NC in loving memory of Maya.

Perfect Family Dog Alert! Hi there, my name is Bonnie

(A042759) and I’ve just got to tell you that letting a dog like me pass by is like letting a jewel slip from your fingers. I’m the kind of dog that folks

want to spend their lives with, and that’s the truth! I’m a

2-year-old Golden Retriever/Yellow Lab mix who already knows commands such as

‘sit’ and ‘down’. I don’t jump on people and if you’re sitting in a chair, I’ll quietly sit next to

you for some head rubs. I love treats and I love playing with toys. I carry them around the room in my mouth - it’s so cute! I’m also a nuzzler - I’ll

nuzzle your hand with my nose so you’ll put it on my head and give me a cuddle. Now that you’ve heard what a sweetheart I

am, won’t you please come adopt me? I’m at Brunswick County Animal Control and am hoping to go home soon! For

more information, please call 910-754-8204.

◄I know, they tell us all the time about teen pregnancy. Well, I didn’t listen. So, here

I am, not even 1-year-old and the mother of five! Luckily, they all found

homes and I want one, too. No more babies for me! Now I want to be spoiled and babied. If you look

closely at my eyes and feel the softness of my fur, you’ll

see that I have Bombay in my DNA. They call me Lil Mama because I was too little and young for babies. Won’t

you pick me and give me a beautiful, new name?

◄Are you looking for a special kitty? Well, look

no farther, because I, Nubbin, am your an-

swer. Granted, it’s not the best name. In fact, it’s a bit condescending since I am missing a leg. I deserve a better name

after what I’ve been through in my brief 2-

years. Someone found me in the street and my left front leg had been severed. I

needed two operations, but now I am ready to go. I love to run and jump and now, there’s no stopping me!

►Oh, poppycock! That’s what all the other kitties say to me. With a name like Poppy, you’d better be cute, and, well, I must say – I am. I am a lovely gray kitty with a few gray spots here and there. I’m still a young-ster at 2-years of age and I’m very friendly. I must admit, I’m a bit

overweight, but I think I’d get lots of exercise at your house. How about it?

◄Calico kitties are always the first ones to be adopted so why

am I still here? As you can see I am a beautiful pastel Calico. My

name is Shana and I am only 1-year-old. I am very sweet, as every girl should be, and l love

attention, just like every girl. You can’t tell in my picture but I re-

cently had some surgery on one ear and now it curls over at the top. It just makes me even cuter. If you take me home I

will snuggle with you forever!

►My name is Sinbad and I am still waiting for my ship to come in. As you

might have guessed, I am a sailor without a boat. I used to be very shy, but since I’m almost 3-years-old, I’m more confident.

With all of you people liv-ing by the sea, doesn’t one of you have room for me?

Once we get used to each other, we can sail into the sunset.

◄My name, Lady Gaga, implies that I must be outlandish and

well – take a look! I am the most unusual Calico you have ever

seen. My face is orange and is surrounded by

black and white. I am about 2-years

-old and finally rid of all those babies. You see, not only did I take care of my own, but I took care of seven others

who lost their mom. Whew, what a job.

►My name is Zoey (A256401) and I have loads

of purrsonality. The property management where I had

been living contacted Animal Control to come pick up me

and some of my kitty friends. So, now I’m here at the shel-

ter hoping to find a forever home. I’m super playful and

friendly, I’m social and outgo-ing and I love being with peo-

ple. I’m still a kitten and am ready for a fun, adventure

filled life with a loving family. Kitty toys are a necessity!

◄Hey there people, check me out! My

name is Elvie (A257407) and I’m a

Labrador Retriever and Boxer mix who can give “high 5s”! I also know

how to sit and shake on command. I’m happy,

friendly, eager to please and need a home with a

loving, active family. I’m a spayed girl and at 10-months of age, I’m still a puppy. I would

like for my new home to have a fenced yard for me to go out and play

in. Plenty of doggy toys would be an added bonus, too. In return, I promise to be a

great companion and to make you smile and feel loved.

◄If you or someone you know is looking for an

amazing best friend, you need to meet me! Hi, my name is Buster

Brown (A257321) and I’m a wonderful dog. Really, I am! I was picked up by Animal

Control after someone dumped me at Empie

Park. I’m already neu-tered, approximately 1½-years-old, good on leash and very gentle. I know how to sit, shake, and lay down on command and I love playing. I’m

engaging and social and I love being by your side but am also content to entertain myself (and you) by playing with a squeaky toy. I’m very sweet, happy and carefree and would love the chance to

make you smile and feel loved.

►I’m a peachy-sweet girl named Bellini (A257069). I

think I’m a Heinz 57 mix or maybe a Collie mix but one thing is for sure...I am cute!

Someone found me straying and brought me here to the shelter with the hopes that I could find a new home. I’m expressive, playful, good on a leash, spayed, happy-go-lucky and an avid toy lover. I’m curious, eager to please and have a real zest for life

(but not like one of those crazy type of puppies).

Please help me find out what it feels like to be loved.

◄My name is Angel (A258211) and I’m a 1-year-old spayed girl who is ready for a home. I’m very sweet and will roll over on my back for attention. I like being held and love being touched. I was surrendered to the shelter after I had been straying in a Wilmington neighborhood for over a month. Please con-sider giving a friendly girl like me a life of love.

◄Hi everyone, my name is Charo (A257686) and I’m a gray and white prin-cess. I am approximately 4-years-old and had been just a neighborhood cat for about a year. I thought for sure someone would take me in but that just wasn’t meant to be. I’m a bit sad-dened by the lack of re-spect I’ve been given but I’m glad to have a chance at finding true love. Would you give me a home filled with love and kitty snacks?

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Feral cats are the offspring of domestic cats that have been abandoned by their owners. They are the

shadowy figures that run from you as you walk toward them. They are un-socialized and will never

know the love of a tender touch or curling up in a warm bed. Friends of Felines is committed to

helping these discarded animals live healthier lives through a trap/vaccinate/spay-neuter/return program.

Have you ever wondered what you can do to make these poor animals’ lives better?

HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

$15 will pay for two cats’ vaccinations (rabies & distemper) $25 will buy bags of dry food needed for daily meals

$40 will neuter one male cat $50 will spay one female cat

$100 will pay for one cat colony's food for a month

This is a great opportunity for individuals, businesses, classrooms, scout troops, fraternities/sororities and many

others to get involved!

Tax Deductible Donations are gratefully accepted at: Friends of Felines, P.O. Box 475, Castle Hayne, NC 28429 Please specify how you would like your donation to be used.

◄Hi there! I’m an adorable Lab mix named Coco. I’m new at the shelter and get-ting used to the sights and sounds. I was happy to be held for my photo and am hoping it will attract the loving family that I’m long-ing for! At just 7-months-old, I’m a spayed girl who is house-trained and good with other dogs. I’m also ok around cats. And thirty pounds is a nice size, too, not too big or small!

Please call about our low cost spay/neuter program.

◄I hope my big blue eyes will steal your heart! My name is Rexell and I’m a

4-year-old Flame Point Siamese who can’t be

touched or cuddled enough. They had a hard time getting a

photo of me because all I wanted to do was snuggle. I’m a lap cat who will sleep in bed

with you if it’s allowed. I’m ok with dogs as

well. Unfortunately, I lost my home because

my owner’s fiancee was allergic. May I

please look forward to the future with you?

◄Hello, friends! I’m Mimi Crumbsnatcher and I’m a 7 pound red and white Chihuahua who was found as a stray in Wilmington. They tell me I’m a senior lady but I have lots of energy and enjoy meeting all kinds of new people. I also get along great with other dogs, especially Bella, who can also be seen on this page. Oh yes, I’m house-trained, too! Come get to know me.

►If a precious orange Tabby is your heart’s

desire, get ready to fall in love! I’m Mr. Kitty and I think I’m the perfect man for you. You’ll never be

lonely again. I’m a neutered, vaccinated,

litterbox-trained darling who weighs in at a soft

and cuddly 14 pounds. I sure do love being with humans and possess a calm, mellow, laid-back

attitude. Prepare to have your heart melted!

◄Happy is my name and happy is what I’ll be if you adopt me! I’m a 4-year-old, 10 pound Chihuahua girl who likes other dogs and is ok with cats. I am good with children and I used to live in a home with kids 5-years of age and older. I like to sleep in bed with my humans and am also house-trained. Sadly, I lost my last home because my owner got a new job and had no time for me. Would you like to take me home?

►My name is Bella and I’m a 1 to 2-year-old

Italian Greyhound girl who weighs in at a mere 10

pounds. That means you can pick me up and hold

me all you like! And I really hope you’ll be

coming here soon so that you can take me home. It’s so hot outside and I want to begin living in

an air conditioned environment with you! I was found as a stray but behaved very nicely in a

foster home where I played well with other dogs. Mimi, also pictured on this

page, is a buddy of mine. How about coming to the shelter and spending some time with me? You’ll fall in love!

If I could talk, I bet the TV news would want to interview me! You see, I was found in

Fayetteville in the aftermath of the recent tornado epidemic that swept the area. I was running loose and no one

could locate my family. There’s no telling where I might have come from or

what happened. The good news is that I feel great and have been enjoying what I

hope will be a temporary stay at SOAR. My name is

Maggie and I LOVE people and LOVE attention. Pet me and I’m your friend for life!

They tell me I may be some sort of Border Collie/Spaniel/Lab mix and that I’m just 3-years-old. I’m getting along great with the other shelter dogs and I know my com-

mands. (‘Sit’ is the one I’m demonstrating here.) I’m a smart girl who is also a big water dog - I just love splash-ing around in a hose or pool. I’m also spayed, vaccinated

and on heartworm prevention. Would you like to meet me? Call SOAR for directions or more information - the

number is 910-457-6340. See you soon!

I am sponsored by Top Toad in the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington, NC. Thank you!

Please don’t turn the page, take a moment and read about me...I need to tell my story and even if you can’t

adopt me, perhaps you know someone who can? My name is

Houlihan and I’m a sweet girl who was found wandering, weighing only 34

pounds, with lots of hair gone and infection all

over my skin. I’m just a year or two old but after a very rough start I’m looking beautiful, have put on 20 pounds and am ready for a home. And as a bonus, I’ve graduated from obedience training with the Pawsitive Partners Prison Pro-gram, and am also spayed and microchipped. I’m a bit shy

but extremely gentle and get along well with other dogs. I’ve even stayed with a family with children a few times...I

really loved doing that, but now I’m back in the kennel. Please! Help me find a home - I’ve been alone for so long now. For more information on adopting me, call 910-297-1338, email [email protected] or fill out an applica-

tion at www.montyshome.org.

I am sponsored in appreciation of everyone who has rescued a homeless animal.

◄I’m Beau, a sweet, handsome, 60-pound Hound in need of a

new family! I was part of a litter of twelve puppies that was

adopted out four years ago. Sadly, my owner

became very ill and could no longer keep

me. The good news is that I have perfect

house manners and am well behaved! I

walk nicely on a leash, am house-trained, can sit for a cookie, and I get along well with

other dogs and human children. I am even used to sleeping in bed with my family, if it’s allowed. Please give me a home!

◄Hello! I’m Sugar Pie and I’m a 4-year-old

Redbone/Bloodhound mix

girl. I have floppy ears as soft as

butter and I also have the most

kissable mouth. In fact, I’m kissin’ people all the time

because I’m extremely friendly and affectionate. I enjoy playing

and being with people. I love other dogs, too. I really want to be part of a family. Would you let me be your

new baby girl? I’ve been here too long!

◄My name is Holly and I was

found by the railroad tracks on Christmas Eve. I’m a 2-year-old Hound with one

blue eye and one brown. I’m so

pretty! Right now I weigh 50 pounds,

but I could stand to gain another five.

I’m great with other dogs and love to play. I enjoy rawhides, going for walks

and getting hugged and kissed by humans. I have a gentle personality and am already spayed, vaccinated

and on heartworm prevention. Come meet me!

◄I’m a small Hound - just 30 pounds - and I was

found as a stray in South Carolina. My name is Juliet and I’m a sweet,

gentle, 1-year-old girl who would love to live in a quiet

home with my very own Romeo. I play extremely well with other dogs and enjoy taking walks. I’m

looking for a person or fam-ily with a fenced-yard and a desire to share their life

with a good-natured girl like me. I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm

prevention. How about giving this Juliet a happy ending?

It’s Raining Kittens at Pender County Animal Control! There are 40 of us here searching for loving homes.

If you’d like to adopt one of us, or foster us temporarily, please call or

come out today!

We come in all sizes,

shapes and col-ors, and you can bet that we're all equally

precious. It’s sad that our first few weeks of life are spent looking be-

tween the bars of a cage and standing on a metal floor. And as you know, there is never enough space for us all. When more kittens arrive, room must be made - and that

often happens by euthanization. Don’t blame Animal Con-trol, though. Blame the folks who don’t spay and neuter

their cats. They’re the reason we’re here. If you’re part of a non-profit rescue group, you’re also invited to come take one or more of us into your program. For more info, call

Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196. With so many kittens to choose

from, you’re sure to find the one that steals your heart!

We are sponsored by NCBeachBargains.com in honor of all the wonderful volunteers who work tirelessly to

make life better for homeless animals.

I’ve Been Waiting Two Years for a Home! Please

Adopt Me! Hello! I’m Lola and I’m a very sweet girl who adores people.

I’m a 4-year-old Shepherd/Lab mix and all I want is to

please and be loved. So why haven’t I been

adopted? Could it be because I have

a special need? Please don’t let that deter you from bringing a great girl like me home! I have an old cruciate ligament injury which re-quires me to stay on glucosamine chondroiton for my life-time, but it’s an inexpensive pill and easily available. I’m not so fond of other female dogs, but I interact very well

with larger, docile male dogs. I’m behaving beautifully at a dog boarding facility and working with a trainer as well! If

you have an interest in adopting me, please call today! Or, if you’re not able to adopt at this time but would like to fos-ter me temporarily, that would be great! I’d really love to get back in a home environment. Just give the Sunburst

Foundation a call at 910-622-0011or email them at [email protected].

I am sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington.

Thank you!

Boy, I can’t tell you how happy I was to get

out of my kennel for some photo-taking fun! I hopped around with joy and made every-

one smile. My name is Blanco (CM3780) and I could make your life even happier, too - all

you have to do is adopt me! I’m a 1 to 2-year-old male German Shepherd mix and I’m

pure white. I don’t want to brag, but eve-ryone tells me I’m very

handsome! I was found as a stray in Burgaw and am really looking forward

to enjoying life with my new family. I do need medical attention for some hip issues, and am appealing for help from readers. The initial exam will cost $300 to $400 dol-lars and I’d be so grateful if you could send in a donation,

no matter how big or small. Checks can be mailed to Furever Friends, c/o Capeside Animal Hospital, 511 Old Waterford Way, Leland, NC 28451. Please write in the memo that it is for ‘Blanco’. Thank you for your kindness and please consider adopting me! For more information, call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or

With! Hi there, my name is Coal, and I’m on the

search for a wonderful family, one that prefera-

bly has another dog. You see, my best friend and housemate (a fel-low dog) recently died and it’s made me so

very sad. I’m an 8-year-old male Black Lab mix with a very loving per-sonality. I am house-trained, obedient and

eager to please. I love going for walks, playing with children above the age of six and I have also lived harmoniously with a cat. I would be a great companion for anyone! As for my

health, I am neutered, up to date on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Because I’ve lived in a home all my life, I have great house manners and am a well-adjusted, social, friendly dog. Would you please consider adopting

me? I promise to give you so much love and so much com-panionship! You’ll never be lonely again. Please call the

name is Gumbo and I’m a Bulldog/Beagle

mix who is ready-made to be a great family companion. Just listen to all my excellent traits! I’m

house-trained, leash-trained, can sit on

command, I ride well in the car and I’m ex-cellent with children! In fact, I once lived

happily with a 9-month-old, a 6-year-old and a 9-year-old. Sadly, the baby devel-oped an allergy to dogs and I had to come to the shelter.

But I just know there’s another family out there who is yearning for a great boy like me! I’m 1½-years-old and am neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m good with other dogs, am ok with cats, and I’m not a big barker. I’m used to living indoors with my family and playing outside in a fenced-in yard. I can fetch, too! You really must come to the shelter to see how cute I am in

►Hi there, my name is Myrtle (CF3909) and I’m a

lovely BlueTick Coonhound. I was found as a stray,

hanging out at someone’s house. You might notice that

my left eye is cloudy - it’s either scar tissue or a cata-ract. I can’t see out of it, but

my other eye works great and I get along just fine. I may have once been a hunting

dog that was abandoned. I don’t want to hunt anymore - I want to be part of a family.

The only hunting I want to do is for treats or toys. Could I please be your new girl?

◄Could I be your Lady? See, that’s my name, and I hope to hear you calling me that as we enjoy our new life at home. I’m a young Walker Hound who is very quiet, rarely bark-ing, and I’m great with other dogs. I’ve shown no interest in cats and love going for walks with the shelter workers. I guess you could call me a ‘go with the flow’ kind of girl. Please call today and ask about me - my ID number is CF3779. See you soon!

◄I’m a sweetheart! So why am I running out of time at this shelter? My name is Denver (CM3803) and I was shy when I first arrived, but I’ve really opened up to my new friends here and love be-ing around people. I walk well on a leash and am a medium-sixed boy. Not too big or too small. I hope you’ll give me the chance to steal your heart. You’ll be saving my life in return. Hurry over today!

URGENT, URGENT!! We Three Dogs Are Running Out Of Time! Please read our stories and adopt us!

◄ It’s hard to believe, but someone dumped a beautiful and loving young girl like me out

on the street. I guess it was my lucky day, be-cause someone came

to my rescue. My name is Melissa

(FF3643) and I’m an 8-month-old girl who loves receiving atten-tion and petting from

humans. Just open up my cage door and I’ll stand right up, purring and ready for love. I

enjoy playing with toys, too. We’d have a great life!

◄My name is

Toni and this is my baby girl, Sugar. Sugar is

one of six precious

kittens that I’m nursing here at the shelter. If

you come visit, you’ll be able to hold my babies in your hands or watch them as they play. They are just 3 to

4-weeks-old, and I am around 1-year. We would all love to be part of loving homes. Please call today and ask for

me - my ID number is FF3732. We’ll be waiting!

►I’m a very special cat named Jessica

(FF3799). Would you like to know why? Well,

I have six toes on my front paws, which

means I’m a polydactyl kitty. My paws look kinda like oven mitts

and are quite a conversation starter. I’ve been living at the shelter since July 19 and am desperately ready to find my very

own home. I’m so happy when humans

take time out to pet me, and I get along with the other cat in my cage. Let’s go!

I’m Rocket and I’m a de-lightful youngster. I don’t have a mean bone in my body. I get along with all of my foster siblings and

am learning to avoid those who don’t agree that I am

the most adorable little boy in the world. I am

very much the puppy. I have not quite learned that I cannot chew on the hu-

mans. I am ready to learn from anyone with a gentle

approach. My foster mom says “you can see his mind working whenever a command is introduced. Rocket can be a little shy with new people but warms up quickly.” She also says this about me: “He loves balls, loves tugs, loves chew treats, shoes, socks, etc. It is a good idea to keep

plenty of “legal” toys handy. He finds water irresistible and is happy to splash in anything liquid.” If you are interested in me or would like more info on other dogs currently avail-

able for adoption, please visit the Carolina Border Collie Rescue website at CBCR.org or call 910-754-5747.

Hi! My name is Ferry and I was abandoned. Someone left me tied to a column at a strip mall with a bag of food tied to my neck! Can you believe it? Since that horrible day, I’ve been taken in by some

thoughtful people and am waiting for the day when a family of my

own comes by. I’ve been waiting for one my whole life and I just

know that there is one out there for me. I love to play with toys and kids (a home with children would be fabulous for me)! I don’t stray far, though I haven’t had much

experience with leashes before. I was pretty much on my own most

of my life, left outside all of the time and I have come down with the heartworm disease. I know you can fix it, but so far no one’s offered to help me. I am only 1½-years-old and everyone I meet says my heart is

very big and that I am a beautiful and loving dog. If you are interested in adopted me, please visit the Carolina Border Collie Rescue website at CBCR.org or call 910-545-1846.

I am sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Insurance

Agency in memory of Dingo.

◄It’s a shame that an ador-able kitten like me is living at a shelter! I’m ready to

make someone’s life a thou-sand times happier, but I just need them to walk

through the door and meet me! My name is Jester and I’m a 16-week-old boy with a playful, purry personality. I love to be held and kissed and am living here with my

mother, brother and two sisters. You should come visit us! We roam freely

around the cat room and will make you smile. Hop in the car and let’s get acquainted!

◄You’d be hard-pressed to find a friendlier, sweeter

girl than me! My name is Gypsy and I want to settle down with you.

I’m a loving, completely non-aggressive Pit Bull girl who never meets a stranger. My smiling face welcomes all the

people who greet me! I am spayed, up to date on shots and on heart-

worm prevention. I dearly love squeaky toys and I will take

treats very gently from your fingers. You’ll see how great I am when you visit!

►My name is Sydney and I’m such a handsome kitten boy! I was found all

alone in the world, but someone brought me to the shelter. I have tiger

stripes, but I’m not the slightest bit wild. I am just

the sweetest little thing and I get my purring motor

started as soon as I see you. I’m a very trusting

fellow who appreciates all the attention I’m now get-

ting. At just 12-weeks-old, I’d love to grow up with

you by my side!

►Everything about me is beautiful, especially my eyes which are lined in

black. My name is Beau and I’m a Boxer/Hound mix with a loving, gentle

personality. I was born at the beginning of April, which puts me around

16-weeks-old. I get along great with other dogs and share a kennel with my brother Blue. He looks almost exactly like me!

I’ve been to the doc for a check-up and am neu-tered and vaccinated.

Bring a puppy home today - and let it be me!

►I’m so fluffy they tell me I just

might be part Maine Coon! My

name is Kelly and I’m an abso-lutely beautiful little boy with a very loving and sweet personal-

ity. My foster mom says I am a

joy to live with and would make someone very happy. I was born at the be-ginning of May and am ready to find my permanent home. I love to be held by humans and enjoy playing with toys. I get

along well with other animals and am already neutered, vacci-nated and litterbox-trained. Come get to know me today!

►Don’t even try

to fight it - you know you want to take

one of us home!

My name is Freddy and this is

my sis, Kimmy. We are 12-week-old pups with an unusual parentage. Our father is a Shih Tzu/Pug mix and our mother is a Pointer. I

have short hair like our mom and Kimmy has a fuzzy, scruffy face like our dad. We both have playful, loving per-

sonalities and enjoy being held. We also have another sister here named Jellybean. She’s scruffy, too. Better

hurry if you want to take one of us home with you!

My name is Dixie and I was rescued just before my time ran out. Then I got the bad news that I

was heartworm posi-tive. Man, can’t a

girl catch a break? I have completed my

heartworm treatment and feel as good as new. All I need is a forever home. I'm approximately 1 to

2-years-old, I’ve had all of my vaccina-tions, and I’ve been spayed. I'm a very sweet girl, al-

though I might be a little shy a first. They think I might be a Labrador Retriever and Bulldog mix. My coat is a nice combination of black and brown and I have white on my

face, chest and feet. I get a little excited when I'm around cats, but I get along fine with other dogs. If you

can give me the second chance I so very much deserve, please call 910-271-3101.

I am sponsored by Pet Friends of Duplin County.

Thank you!

I’m not shy to announce that I’m looking for

love! My name is

Skittles and I’m a 40

pound Hound girl who just

turned 1-year-old at the end of March. I wish I could have cele-brated my

birthday in my new home! Still, I have high hopes that I’ll soon find the family of my dreams. I am a house-trained, leash-trained darling who lost my former home because a new baby was coming and there was no time for me. I’m

great with cats and other dogs, but would probably be happi-est as the only dog since I can be protective of my food. I’m terrific with human children and I LOVE to play in my pool. If you’d like to see what a wonderful, loving girl I am, call Paw’s

Place at 910-845-7297 and let’s arrange a day to meet!

I am sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington. Thank you!

◄I’m a Tortoiseshell kitten name Ophelia! I was found in Boiling Spring Lakes when I was just 6-weeks-old. I was wandering the world alone and desperate for help! Luckily, someone came to my rescue and I’m now at SOAR, ready to find long-lasting joy with you. I am very sweet and am in a cage by myself, but I love ‘play time’ when I run around the room with other kit-tens. Let’s go!

◄I’m George! I was found abandoned in a parked car and was born proba-bly the last

week in Sep-tember 2010. In my SOAR foster home, I have been

raised with other cats and kittens and a large dog. My sweet nature and playfulness have made me much

loved. I am negative for all feline diseases, have had all my shots and am neutered. Some cat lover who needs

a great kitten should call my SOAR foster mom at 910-278-4437 quickly!

►If long-haired, orange cats have long been a

favorite of yours, you’re in luck! I fit that descrip-tion exactly. And guess

what, humans are my favorite. My name is

Ginger and I’m a 1½ to 2-year-old female who

is extremely loving and friendly. I once was a

cherished family mem-ber, but my owner

passed away. I hope you’ll be coming to visit

real soon. I just bet you’ll want to carry me

on home with you!

►One of my kitten brothers is adopted and the other one is spoken for - now it’s

MY turn to be the lucky one! Hi, my name is

Colleen and I’m a 16-week-old Calico girl who is spayed, up to

date on shots and litter-box-trained. I am ex-tremely loveable and I

really enjoy playing. All you have to do is give

me a couple of cat toys and I’m in heaven! It’s

going to be lonely, though, when my brother goes home. You can spare me

the loneliness, though. Just come adopt me!

►Talk about beautiful! My name is Misty

and I’m a medium-haired girl, painted in

splashes of cream and gray. You’ll

have to come to SOAR and

see how lovely I am in person.

At just 1½-years-old, I’m a stray who was found on the island by a kind stranger. They got me to SOAR and I’m enjoying all the petting, good food and attention I’m receiving. I’m sweet and playful and al-

ready spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Adopt me!

►Those darn cat allergies! When will they come up with a

cure for that? My name is Stripes and I lost my

home when the child I lived with developed an allergy. It’s a real

shame because I’m the kind of cat you want to have around! I’m a 1-

year-old Tabby boy who loves to sit in your lap and be held. I’m also

neutered, up to date on shots and litterbox-

trained. Let’s go home!

A precious puppy could be just what you need

right now! I’d like to offer myself up for your consid-

happy and eager to please my human friends.

I sat so nicely for my photo and was rewarded

with lots of cuddles! Right now I’m a small-

sized pup, but I’ll probably be around 40 pounds

when fully grown. SOAR found me at Brunswick County Animal where I was run-ning out of time. Now I’m enjoying playing with the other

dogs at the shelter and am learning my commands. I LOVE people and LOVE attention and would be great in a home with older kids - I’m playful and might knock smaller

tots down. I am already neutered and vaccinated - the only thing needed now to make my life complete is you! Please call SOAR at 910-457-6340 and let’s get started!

can be. I just don’t understand why I haven’t

yet been adopted? I watch while other dogs

come and go and wonder when it will be my turn. I love being

with humans and would be an excellent

companion. I’m house-trained, neutered, up to date on shots and on

◄I’m Rosie! I’m a medium-sized Pug/Spitz mix and, at

just 4-years-old, I’m a smart, friendly girl who would be a great agility dog. I adore

children and am friendly to adult humans as well! I do

have issues with some dogs, but I’m great with cats. I’ve been working with an obedi-ence trainer and would love to continue this training with

my new family. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and on

heartworm prevention. You’d be so lucky to share your life with a great girl like me!

◄I’m a sweet, young, male Akita/Chow mix

named Ted. I am a quiet but active dog and I’ve behaved well around

other dogs. I just ADORE people! I’m also very

smart and will go far with basic obedience. Oh yes, I’m also neutered, vacci-nated and on heartworm prevention. I’d do best with someone experi-enced with the Akita

breed. If you’re that kind of person, please call!

◄I’m a heartmelter! My name is Jai and I’m a

happy, happy male puppy who is learning the basics

such as house-training, crate-training and leash-

training. I’m just 11-months-old and am also working with an

obedience trainer. My coat is a bold red and

black brindle, almost like tiger stripes. I may be mixed with American

Staffordshire Terrier and Lab. I’m still fairly small,

and I play well with dogs. Adopt me and let’s enjoy life!

To adopt or volunteer, visit the website at www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org. Volunteers are needed for adoption fairs,

fundraising, and showcasing dogs at events.

◄Hello there! I’m Smiley Girl. Care to guess how I got my name? I bet you know...I am

always smiling! I’m a young Yellow Lab/

Golden Retriever mix who was

brought to Pender County Animal Control. I’m

currently in a foster home and am impressing everyone with my friendly, well-

adjusted nature. I’m very smart, too! Unfortunately, I have been diagnosed with heartworms, but the good news is that

the Sunburst Foundation is helping raise funds for my treatment! If you’d like to help put me on the road to good

health, visit www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org, scroll down and click on the ‘Chip In’ button. Thank you!!

◄Hi, my name is Remington! I’m a 1½-

year-old male Irish Setter mix, and I have to say that I’m a very sweet boy. I’m great with people and I do well with most other dogs (but cats I like to chase). I am house-trained and will be a wonderful companion for an active family. I love to explore in the woods, so if you’re a hiker we’d be a

great match! I’m very smart, leash-trained and

in great health. Give yourself the gift of adopting an awesome dog like me!

◄Hi, my name is Blondie! I’m a sweet girl who appears to be mixed between an Eskimo Dog

and a Yellow Lab. Aren’t I beautiful? I weigh 45

pounds and am house-trained and crate-trained. I’m good with other dogs,

too! At just 5-years-old, I’m spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. I’m

a bit shy, but obedience training will help my self-confidence. I have been diagnosed with epilepsy and will

need to stay on medication for my lifetime, but please don’t let that stop you from adopting me! It’s relatively inexpensive and helps me so much. Please adopt me!

Hey, Look at Me! This photo was taken on my graduation day

from the Pawsitive Part-ners Prison Program.

My name is Radar and I’m part of the MASH group. I had a home but they brought me back in just a couple weeks because I was still confused about

where my potty room was. I’ve been living

with a foster mom who has helped me figure that out now! I am really good with other dogs and people of all sizes. I especially like the

little ones like I had in that other house while I was there. Can you please give me a chance? I’m only 10-months-

old so am still learning the ropes but I am very smart, really! I even have my obedience training diploma I can show you. To find out more, call 910-297-1338 or email [email protected]. Better yet, go right out and fill

an application to adopt me at www.montyshome.org.

I am sponsored by Barb Raab in honor of The Pet’s Pal Inn where I stayed while I was waiting

for a home. (It was fun there!!)

When will it finally be my turn to be

adopted? So many of my SOAR friends

have found families, but I’m still waiting. My name is Homer and I’m a 6-year-old Hound mix who is eager to please, a good listener, and

very intelligent. I’m neutered, vaccinated

and on heartworm prevention. I’m ex-tremely affectionate and would love to be

part of an active family who goes on daily

walks or outings to the beach or park. I love running and I love agility. Do you have a warm heart, a cozy home and a

6-foot, fenced-in yard? Are you experienced with my breed? A confident pack leader is just what I need! Please call SOAR at 910-457-6340 for more info on adopting me.

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of all their

wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.

Pet Ed 101 Gives Kids a Renewed Appreciation for Companion Animals These smiling faces at Burgaw Middle School’s after-school program celebrate the end of an education program by Monty’s Home and the beginning of a new appreciation of our four-legged companions. Pet Ed 101 volunteers pre-sented a range of topics through a monthly series during this school year. The children learned the history of dogs, health and anatomy, how to be responsible pet owners, how to be safe around dogs, basics of training, overpopulation challenges and the importance of adoption. Classes incor-porated dogs to demonstrate and reinforce concepts. To bring the program into your local school system, volunteer, or find out more, contact [email protected] or visit www.montyshome.org.

My name is Maggie and I'm a 2-year-old, female Great Dane. I

came in as a owner surrender due to a growing family that no

longer had time for me. I have a lot of energy and will need a

fenced yard to run and play. My foster mom says I would do great with a home full of mindful chil-dren to play with or even a few

energetic dogs. I am submissive and play well with every size and

breed. I do get a little over-whelmed and scared when

rushed by dogs my size. I haven't met any cats or infants, yet. I act, look, and behave just like a Dane

but I'm very petite. I currently weigh in at 64 pounds. I can sit and stay and I’m a good listener. I would be a fantastic addition to any family and will be ready soon after completing my heartworm treat-

ment. Please call Terri with Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Res-cue League at 252-566-8934 or visit www.magdrl.org to

find out more about me and the adoption process.

I am sponsored in loving memory of Brunswick County K9 Deputy, Viper.

Adopt me and you’ll have an instant best friend! Hi, my

name is Maggie and I’m ready to give you so much love - our house will be overflowing with

it! I’m a 2-year-old Beagle/Jack Russell Terrier mix who weighs in at a perfectly sized 22 pounds. You can see how

adorable I am in my photo. You can also see that I know

how to sit on command. I was so happy to obey and was

even more happy to receive a treat in return. I’d be a great

addition for a family with children, and I also get along well with other dogs. I love to play, so a fenced-in yard is a

must. We will have such fun there together! I’m sure I’d chase a Frisbee, ball or any other toy you’d like to toss my way. As for my health, I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. So, are you ready to bring me home? Call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-

Hi, my name is Peaches! I’m a house-trained, friendly and loving Golden Retriever mix. Like most Golden’s, I’m a great companion for chil-

dren. And at 8-years of age, I’m still active and enjoy

playtime. I’m sure you can see by my photo what a

happy girl I am. You’d never guess that I came from a sad

background. I was once neglected and gave birth to

litter after litter of puppies. Luckily, all that has changed! My friends at Paw’s Place say I’ll soon be someone’s

faithful companion and, with my spay surgery complete, I’ll never have to worry about puppies again. All I want is

some TLC and a nice place to live. I think air conditioning is the best invention ever made (and it’s so hot living out-side at the shelter right now). So how about it - I’m not

asking for much, just kindness and good care. I’ll give you lots of love in return. Please call Paw’s Place at 910-845-

7297 and let’s get started on our new life together!

I am sponsored by Marybeth and Elliott Tepper in loving memory of Tripp (who was adopted from

Paw’s Place). We love him so much!

Hello folks, my name is Texas (Tex) and I’m currently enrolled in the Pawsitive Partners Prison Pro-gram at Pender Correctional Insti-tution in Burgaw. I was saved from

the shelter by my new friends at Monty’s Home and given a new

chance to find a loving family just like you. I am a 1-year-old brindle Plott Hound mix (in case you didn’t know it, I’m the official North Caro-lina state dog!) I really enjoy being around people. Currently, I’m be-ing trained on how to interact with

people by using proper manners. I am learning how to walk on a

leash and follow all my commands like sit, down, crate, wait and stay. For fun, I like chasing

the tennis ball, playing with my tug toy and having my belly rubbed. If you are looking for a fun new family member,

then I’m your man. Hope to see you soon! For more info, call 910-297-1338, email [email protected] or fill out

an application at www.montyshome.org Written for Texas by his inmate trainer Christopher D.

I am sponsored by Foose & Captain Spriggs, who

rescued the owners of Four Legs Good Pet Boutique.

I am a stunning young lady named Zumba! It fits me so well because I love to play and I play hard. I am little at only

around 30 to 35 pounds. I love to just sit beside

you for loving (or in your lap if you let me). I have the cutest little

ears that naturally fold backwards, and a nub tail! I love to make you

happy and I am very smart. I already know my name, as well as

Come, Sit, and No. I’m working on Stay and Paw. I love to lay around with you but I also love to go out-side and play with other dogs. I get along great with

everyone I meet. I am good with cats, dogs, and kids! My favorite activities include: chasing bumble bees, working on training, sleeping on my back, and eating! I am only around a year old and will flourish in any home. I am good on the leash (harness) and on car rides. I would do best in a home with a 6-foot high fence. If you would like to know more about me

or would like to inquire about adoption, please call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

Hi there! My name is Amber and I’m a petite Lab mix, just 5-years-old. I was

adopted from Pender County

Humane Society in 2006 with my

friend Shelby, but our family fell

upon hard times and had to return us to the shelter. Shelby has been

adopted, and now I’m waiting

for my new family to walk in! Here’s the great news: I’m already house-trained, leash-trained, spayed, up to date on shots and on heartworm prevention. I love all people and would be great with children. I absolutely ADORE water and enjoy splashing around in the pool they have for us at the shelter. Could you use a beach buddy or a sea-loving captain for your boat? Let’s talk about it when you come to the shelter! And if

you need directions or more info, please call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022.

I am a stunning little girl named Baby. I am ex-

tremely loving and sweet-natured. I am pretty playful still and act like a puppy most of the

time. I will give you kisses con-stantly until you

make me stop. Considering I am still very much a full grown puppy, I can be mischievous if I am not

watched. I am working on house-training and I am learning where the door is and how to ask to go out. I LOVE sleeping in my crate or hanging out in it during

the day. I will bark when meeting new people, but only because I am scared and a little nervous, but I re-

spond very well to treats and am easily distracted and trusting of others with them. I need someone to adopt

me with time and patience to give. When my foster mom found me and my mom (Sadie, not pictured) we were wandering in a bad area, starving and sick. It

took us a while to come to her but now we love her to death. We are looking good and feeling healthy again

and ready for our new homes. If you would like to know more about me or to inquire about adoption, call

Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I’m a wonder-ful family dog named Bella! Look at my photo and

you will see how well-

behaved and obedient I

am. All they did was hold up a treat,

say ‘sit’, and I sat right

down with no hesitation.

I’m a 2-year-old Boxer/Bulldog mix who was found at Animal Con-

trol with my nine puppies. They have all been adopted so I’m ready to find a home where it’s my turn to be

the baby. I love everyone and never meet a stranger. I’m also house-trained, leash-trained and great with

children and other dogs. I’m sweet, gentle, calm and just an all-around terrific girl. I hope someone

(preferably with a fenced-in yard) will recognize what a jewel they would have in me. Please call Pender

County Humane Society at 910-259-7022. I can’t wait to get started on our new life together!

OPERATION TOPCAT

You can tell by my eyes that someone woke me up to take my picture. I knew it was necessary but it sure doesn't

show me at my best. My name is Mikey (pictured left) and I am a Brown Tabby who is 4-years-old. I'm pretty laid

back and love to watch people here at the local business where I currently live with my brother, Mickey. Sadly, we must find a new place to live. We can be inside or inside/outside as long as you live in a really safe place. I have been with my brother all these years so I am comfortable

with other cats. Don't know about dogs or kids. If you have room in your heart for one or both of us, we would be very happy. We are really no trouble at all. For more info, email [email protected] or call 910-200-0612. To see

other kitties up for adoption, please visit us online at www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC250.html.

PENDER ENDANGERED ANIMAL RESCUE

My name is Roxi and I’m a 3-year-old Pit Bull Terrier with a playful and affectionate personality. I am used

to living indoors and am house-trained, crate-trained and leash-

trained. My former family had two little girls so I am accustomed to

being around children. I LOVE toys and I LOVE balls - it would be awe-

some to play some games in a fenced-in backyard. A young, active family would be a

great match for me as I love to go on outings. I would be an excellent candidate for agility and am bright, alert and attentive. I know how to sit on command and am spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention. If you are famil-

iar with my breed and would like to meet me, call 910-675-0867 or email [email protected].

Psst! Spread the word. BLACK DOGS ARE BEST! Are you in

need of a handsome, smart and fun-loving companion? Then I am your fellow and my name is

Chance. I am only about 1-year-old, neutered and up to date on vaccinations. I am a happy-go-lucky Border Collie

and Labradorable mix and I love to play with other dogs, too.

Take a Chance on love, take a Chance on ME! Call Denise at 910-862-1728 or Silvia at 910-876-0539. No one will ever love you like a dog who

was once abandoned! Please visit www.AShelterFriend.org or www.facebook.com/ashelterfriend for more info.

A SHELTER FRIEND OF SE NORTH CAROLINA

FUREVER FRIENDS

COLUMBUS HUMANE SOCIETY

My name is Bingo and I'm a Shepherd mix who is approxi-mately 22-months of age. I was rescued just as my time ran out! I'm up to date on all of my vaccinations, I’m heart-worm negative, I’m neutered and I’m crate-trained. I just graduated from the " New Leash On Life" Obedience

Training, offered through the Bladen County Correctional

Center at White Lake. I was in training for about 10-weeks and I've learned so much! Now I would like to have a

furever home of my own. My adoption will include all of my vetting, a 6-month supply of

heartworm pills, a large bag of food and I will be getting a microchip. I love to run and play and I get along with all

other dogs but I don't like cats. I also love children. I would really love to have a fenced yard to play in and to also con-tinue with my obedience training. If you are interested in a good looking fellow who is already trained and who loves people, then I'm the dog for you. Please contact Pat by

calling 910-640-1505 or you can send an email to [email protected]. She will tell you all about

me and how we can arrange a meeting!

My name is Boo and I’ve had a rough go of it lately. I was prego and in

labor for two whole days before my owners surrendered me to the shel-

ter. Some of my babies didn’t survive but the ones who did have been

adopted. I was such a great mom to them and to another abandoned

puppy, too. I am 5-years-old, spayed, vaccinated, crate-trained, leash-

trained and weigh only 43 pounds. I did test positive for heartworms but

am undergoing treatment for them at no additional cost to you. I am a genuine people-lover and

need a home with a fenced yard where I can be the only pet. For more info, call Furever Friends Animal Rescue at 910-383-2100 (Monday through Saturday between 8am-6pm).

years-old and a Fox Hound mix. Monty’s home has me in the

Pawsitive Part-ners Prison Pro-

gram. It’s an obe-dience program

which lasts for 9- weeks. I’m a laid-

back male who would blend in good with any family. I don’t

take much main-tenance, I love a lot of attention

and affection. I’m not picky, I get along well with

other dogs. So if you are looking for a dog that’s not much trouble and laid-back, I’m your dog! For more info, call 910-297-1338 or email [email protected]. You can also apply to

PHOENIX LANDING FOUNDATION

Hi, my name is Ecco. I am a

Cinnamon Green Cheek conure. I am as sweet as

they come and am only 2-

years-old. My owners recently

divorced and both moved

somewhere that did not allow pets, so they broken-heartedly gave me up for adoption. I love to eat grapes (as I am doing in my picture) but I am a bit camera shy! I come with my own cage that has a wonderful play top with lots of toys and I have been accustomed to spending a lot of time there. I am up to date on vaccines and blood work and am overall very healthy! I am looking for a home that can give me lots of love and attention. To adopt me, or to foster or

adopt another of the many parrots who are awaiting homes, contact Phoenix Landing at www.phoenixlanding.org (click

ONSLOW PARTNERS FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

I am the perfect little prin-cess! I was rescued by my foster mom the day before my time was up. I am now

spayed, up to date on vacci-nations, house-trained,

heartworm negative and I LOVE other dogs. I am a petite girl who weighs ap-proximately 23 pounds. I have the most gorgeous

plume of a tail that I love to hold high with my beautiful graceful gait. I would love to meet you, walk by your side and give you kisses. Please see more photos and

videos of me at www.oc-paw.com (look for my page, natu-rally called Miss Harley). For more information, please call

my foster mom, Helen, at 910-545-1844.

Hi, I'm Gracie and I'm a petite light gray Tabby who is looking for a

forever home. I'm approximately 1-year-old, up to date on my shots, spayed and even tested negative

for Feline Leukemia and FIV. I'm a sweet girl but I might be a little shy when I first meet new people. No worries though because it doesn't take me long to warm up to them. I'm a very active, playful kitty. I enjoy the company of both men

and women and I did just fine with the other dogs and cats at my first foster home. Won't you give me a chance to be your companion? To find out how to adopt me, please call 910-271-3101. You won't regret it!

LOST DOG - REWARD! "Chien" - Male Walker Hound

. Chien (“Shin”) is a 2-year-old male Walker Hound. He looks

neutered but is not. He is terrified of loud noises, quick movements and most men. April 19th he got spooked and ran into the woods at Ashton Crossroads (Ashton Road and Old River Road junction).

Last seen (4/29) WITHOUT collar in woods at Ashton Farms. Reported to have been zapped by electric fence around corn feed and bolted (ripping fence from post). Tracks were in the direction of Burgaw away from Rocky Point. Certain to be seeking a food

source - he might approach horse feed or scraps. He is not aggressive at all – very skittish!

If you see him, please call immediately (day or night)!

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS

CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Are you looking for a Basset who is a head above the rest? A semi-herculean hound, with eating and sleeping super powers? A gentle giant to be your constant compan-ion? To whistle while you work? To make you smile when times

are hard? To breathe new life into your Christmas card? Then let me talk to you a second. My name is Webster and I’ve got my sad story just like all these other

hounds. I’ve been in and out of halfway houses since I found myself homeless after my person became too sick to care for me. But I’m a doggy biscuit-canister half full kind

of guy and I know the right person is out there for me somewhere. I like groceries, long AND short walks on the beach or street, naps anywhere, washing dishes, and play-ing with an endless supply of toys. If you’re looking for an

on-again-off-again active hound, mid 6’s, with lots of love to give, then let’s do lunch, see where it goes. To make me a

member of your family, please call 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com

I am Callie and I am known as the sweetest of them all. I chose this

name because I am a big fan of CSI Miami and I admire a character

named Caleigh. I have a long body and long ears. I am too skinny to be adopted right now as the vet said that I need some weight before I can go under anesthesia and have my sur-

gery. So, I will be chomping at the food bowl and gaining the weight necessary. I like to play with boy dogs and love

people, too. I do not seem to like girl dogs at all and am looking for a cat free home. However, if you want a Basset

beauty as an addition to your family, ask about adopting me, Callie. It'll be worth the wait! To make me a member of

your family, call 919-708-4247 or visit www.cbhr.com

Howlo everyone, my name is Dixon and I was just sprung

from the pokey. You’re proba-bly thinking “This is the hound

your mother warned you about.” I assure you that I ended up in the pokey through no fault of my own. I am 3½-years-old, I

have been having a grand time with my foster brothers, and I’m getting adjusted to living in normal society again. I do not mind sharing my food, toys or water and I like to pile up on

my foster brothers at bedtime. I am completely house-trained and have not had one single accident. I sure do love the doggie door and also enjoy going on walks. My alter ego will get on the recliner if no one is looking. I will

make someone a wonderful life-long companion, could it be you? To make me a member of your family, please call

919-708-4247 or visit www.cbhr.com.

My name is Corky and I’m a beau-tiful, sweet and calm boy. I really love being a "house hound". I am curious, smart, and love people. I

get along with dogs, large and small, and am house-trained and crate-trained. I’m learning to love

treats and toys and give kisses. All I want to do is please you so I can

get a lot of lovin’. I’m a beautiful white greyhound with a spot of brindle. Very adorable young man, wouldn’t you say? Please contact Barbara at 910-540-9644 or 910-395-5182 for more info on adopting me. You can view

other greyhounds looking for good homes at www.greyhoundfriends.com.

GREYHOUND FRIENDS OF NORTH CAROLINA

MID-ATLANTIC GREAT DANE RESCUE LEAGUE

My name is Romeo and I'm a 2½-year-old harlequin boy. I came

back to rescue due to economic reasons. I'm very sweet and lov-ing, especially with women, but more cautious with men. Walks are my favorite! I'm also totally

trustworthy when left alone in the house and I’m crate-trained. I haven't had the opportunity to

meet any children yet as my foster mom doesn't have any. I do have

a tendency to be protective at home. Like most Great Danes, I'm

a couch potato and follow my foster mom around the house. My favorite thing is to be petted and I love to take a bath! I will make a great companion for an adult couple or single person. I'm also in perfect health. For more info, please call Terri at 252-566-8934 or visit www.magdrl.org.

Intelligent, enthusiastic, and a bubbly personality are all traits that best

describe me! I’m Ace, a 10 pound baby Welsh Terrier/Schnauzer mix

who is just waiting for someone spe-cial to adopt me. I’m house-trained, crate-trained, fully vetted and micro-chipped. I will flourish with an owner who shows strong leadership skills

and can continue my training. I enjoy the companionship of a busy house-hold and have a great desire to be

with people and other dogs. So if I sound like the perfect fit for you, visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org.

There you can fill out an application online and view other adoptable rescues. If you need an application mailed or

URGENT, URGENT!! I’m Running Out of Time!

I was featured in last month’s issue but didn’t find a home! How can that be? Doesn’t someone out there need a kitten to spice up their life? How about a playful, purry

one with the best personality ever? If you said yes, I’m

your girl! Hello, my name is Dee Dee (FF3553) and I

arrived at the shelter when I was just a few weeks old - that was in February!! It’s

now July, and I’m still here! PLEASE, won’t someone take me home? It really worries me that time is ticking

away! I adore people and have melted everyone’s heart. I stick my paw out the cage for attention and I love to be

held. Be my guardian angel, please! Call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-

279-3196 and let’s talk about my future with you.

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital in honor of all compassionate people who

rescue pets in need.

I’m a social and super friendly boy who has never met a

stranger. My name is Rocky and I had a bit of a rocky start in life.

I’m 7-months-old and had a home of my very own. My owners sur-rendered me because I caught a stomach bug and they couldn’t afford to treat it. I really felt bad

but the vet took wonderful care of me and now I’m all better. I know how to sit and stay for a treat, I’m leash-trained, I’m house-trained, I am good with kids and other dogs and I’m crate-trained. They say I’m mixed breed and that it looks like I might have some

Husky in me along with some Shepherd and maybe a dash or two of something with short legs. I’m a calm yet playful guy who is neutered, vaccinated, on heartworm prevention

and weighs just 39 pounds. I would like for my new home to have a fenced yard that I can go out and run around in. For more info, call Furever Friends Animal Rescue at 910-383-

2100 (Monday through Saturday between 8am-6pm).

I am sponsored by the UNCW Pre-Veterinary Medical Association. Thank you!
