Buena Nueva Good News Reflection Asociándonos a Jesús en el poder de su Espíritu
Juan 20, 19--23 es una de las dos posibles lecturas del Evangelio para el Domingo de Pentecostés. En ella, Jesús dice "la paz esté con ustedes" dos veces. Primero, le da a sus discípulos el don de la paz para que puedan sacar su atención de sus problemas, mirarlo a Él y reconocerlo para-do en medio de ellos.
Luego lo repite, mientras les da la vocación de continuar con la misión que Él había comenzado. Esta vez, "la paz esté con ustedes" deberá ser el fruto de una vida vivida en el Espíritu Santo mientras sirven a Dios por el bien del mundo.
Una cosa es sentirnos en paz porque sabemos que Jesús está dentro de nosotros. Pero, es todo un desafío sentirnos en paz cuando hablamos a los demás acerca de Jesús, porque nos sentimos incapaces y abrumados y tenemos temor de ser perseguidos y rechazados. Por ello es que nos dio su Espíritu Santo.
El Espíritu Santo nos da todo lo que necesitamos para hacer la obra que el Padre nos pide que hagamos y, así, no somos verdaderamente incapaces y Dios puede consolarnos cuando las personas nos rechazan.
Uno de los frutos de asociarnos con Jesús en el poder de su Espíritu es una paz interior que no depende de lo que sucede, ni de lo que otros nos hacen o dejan de hacernos, o de cómo responden a las Buenas Nuevas que compartimos con ellos. La paz es el resultado de estar vivos en el Espíritu. La paz es la actividad del Espíritu dentro de nosotros.
Al final de este pasaje del Evangelio, Jesús le da a los Apóstoles (los primeros sacerdotes católicos) la autoridad de perdonar los pecados en representación de su divina presen-cia. Está instituyendo el Sacramento de la Reconciliación que nos da a Jesús mismo en la forma de un sacerdote hu-mano.
El mismo poder de perdón del Espíritu nos capacita a todos para experimentar la paz en un mundo pecador y tumultuo-so. Aun cuando perdonar sea más que difícil, podemos hacerlo en el Espíritu de Cristo. Podemos perdonar a los que nos dañan incluso si nunca se arrepienten. Y esto es lo que restaura nuestra paz.
Preguntas para la Reflexión Personal:
¿Qué está haciendo que te sientas falto de paz? ¿A quién
debes perdonar en esas situaciones? Si ya has perdonado a
todos y aún te falta la paz ¿necesitas perdonarte a ti mismo?
¿O a Dios? Considera la posibilidad de ir a un director
espiritual o a un consejero para pedir ayuda para encontrar
toda la paz que Jesús quiere que tengas.
Partnering with Jesus in the power of his Spirit
John 20:19-23 is one of two possible Gospel readings for Pentecost Sunday. In it, Jesus says "peace be with you" twice. First, he gives his disciples the gift of peace so that they can take their focus off of their worries to look at him and recognize him standing in their midst.
Then he says it again while giving them the vocation of continuing the mission that he had started. This time, "peace be with you" is to be the fruit of a life lived in the Holy Spirit while serving God for the sake of the world.
It's one thing to feel peaceful because we know that Jesus is with us. It's quite a challenge, though, to feel peaceful when telling others about Jesus, for we feel inad-equate and overwhelmed, and we're afraid of being perse-cuted and rejected. That's why he gave us his Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit gives us whatever we need for doing the work that the Father asks of us, and thus we are not really inadequate nor does God fail to comfort us when people reject us.
One of the fruits of partnering with Jesus in the power of his Spirit is an inner peace that does not depend on what happens, nor on what others do or don't do to us, nor on how they respond to the Good News that we share with them. Peace is the result of being alive in the Spirit. Peace is the Spirit's activity within us.
At the end of this Gospel passage, Jesus gives the Apostles (the first Catholic priests) the authority to forgive sins as surrogates of his divine presence. He is instituting the Sacrament of Reconciliation, which provides to us Jesus himself in the form of the human priest.
The same forgiving power of the Spirit enables all of us to experience peace in a sinful, tumultuous world. Even when forgiving is most difficult, in the Spirit of Christ we can do it. We can forgive those who hurt us, even if they never repent. And this is what restores our peace.
Questions for Personal Reflection:
What is causing you to feel unpeaceful? Whom do you
need to forgive in those situations? If you've forgiven
everyone and you still lack peace, do you need to forgive
yourself? Or God? Consider going to a spiritual director or
counselor for help in finding all the peace that Jesus wants
you to have.

El momento y los orígenes de Pentecostés.
Pentecostés siempre ocurre 50 días después de la muerte y resurrección de Jesús, y diez días después de su ascensión al cielo. Debido a que la Pascua es una fiesta móvil sin una fecha fija, y Pentecostés depende del momento de la Pascua, Pentecostés puede caer en cualquier lugar entre el 10 de Mayo y el 13 de Junio. El momento de estas fiestas es también donde los católicos reciben el concepto de la Novena, nueve días de oración, porque en Hechos 1, María y los Apóstoles oraron juntos "continuamente" durante nueve días después de la Ascensión que lleva a Pentecostés. Tradicionalmente, al Espíritu Santo en los días previos a Pentecostés. El nombre del día en sí se deriva de la palabra griega pentecoste, que significa 50º. The timing and origins of Pentecost
Pentecost always occurs 50 days after the death and resurrection of Jesus, and ten days after his ascension into heaven. Because Easter is a moveable feast without a fixed date, and Pentecost depends on the timing of Easter, Pentecost can fall anywhere between May 10 and June 13.
The timing of these feasts is also where Catholics get the concept of the Novena - nine days of prayer - because in Acts 1, Mary and the Apostles prayed together “continuously” for nine days after the Ascension leading up to Pentecost. Traditionally, to the Holy Spirit in the days before Pentecost.
The name of the day itself is derived from the Greek word pentecoste, meaning 50th.
The reason Pentecost falls 50 days after Easter comes from a parallel Jewish holiday, Shavu`ot, which falls 50 days after Passover. Shavu’ot is sometimes called the festival of weeks, referring to the seven weeks since Passover.
Originally a harvest feast, Shavu`ot now commemorates the sealing of the Old Covenant on Mount Sinai, when the Lord revealed the Torah to Moses on Mount Sinai. Every year, the Jewish people renew their acceptance of the gift of the Torah on this feast.
What happens at Pentecost?
In the Christian tradition, Pentecost is the celebration of the person of the Holy Spirit coming upon the Apostles, Mary, and the first followers of Jesus, who were gathered together in the Upper Room.
A “strong, driving” wind filled the room where they were gathered, and tongues of fire came to rest on their heads, allowing them to speak in different languages so that they could understand each other. It was such a strange phenomenon that some people thought the Christians were just drunk - but Peter pointed out that it was only the morning, and that the phenomenon was caused by the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit also gave the apostles the other gifts and fruits necessary to fulfill the great commission - to go out and preach the Gospel to all nations. It fulfills the New Testament promise from Christ (Luke 24:46-49) that the Apostles would be “clothed with power” before they would be sent out to spread the Gospel.
