ALICE IN WONDERLAND

ROBERT CANAGA: ARTIST & WINE LOVER

‘Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream?’ Edgar Allen Poe asked this question in this poem ‘A Dream Within A Dream’. Often times, when it’s too good to be true, it is just that. However, there are indeed occasions when dreams become reality. Here enters Domaine Pierre Usseglio. On the nose, prepare for dense frozen strawberries, vanilla extract, Irish soda bread, melted cherry lozenges, baby powder, SunMaid raisins & fig newton, followed up by unthawed frozen strawberries, sage & thyme on the palate. A wonderland of flavors to explore, this wine had me feeling like Alice suspended in a place of pure magic.

WINE & MUSIC

THE CUREI’m not a sentimental guy. Most love songs

don’t do much for me. However, there’s one that I can get into - Lovesong by The Cure. I’d pair this track with the wines produced by Bill Frick. From 7.77 acres of land in Sonoma, Frick produces 1400 cases of Rhone varietals that vintage after vintage I always love. Incidentally, it was at Frick Winery that My Wine Words began, as Allie and I filmed our first episode there. Want to watch? Click HERE to have a look.

WINE & ART

STEPHANIE SCHLATTER

Both this artist, Stephanie Schlatter, and this

wine, the 2011 Gewurztraminer from Blustone Vineyards make me want to break into song with

Stevie Wonder’s ‘Isn’t She Lovely’. Every painting from Stephanie and each bottle from Blustone seems

to maintain bright, lively character presented with a unique expression that is, well, lovely. Cheers to art

found both inside and outside of the bottle.

Check out BLUSTONE VINEYARDS& STEPHANIE SCHLATTER ART.
