Baptism registrations--Please call Sister

Interviews will take place on Saturday,

Qualifications for godparents are that they are practicing

Catholics, registered in a parish, attending Mass regularly,

baptized, confirmed, Holy Communion and if married,

married in the Catholic Church. GODPARENTS SHOULD

PROVIDE THEIR CATHOLIC CHURCH MARRIAGE

CERTIFICATE AND CONFIRMATION CERTIFICATE.

Godparents who live in another parish require a letter from

their pastor recommending them as godparents.

TENEBRAE CANDLELIGHT SERVICE- Sunday,

April 14th at 7:00 pm for all parishes.

Queen of Peace and Holy Spirit in English

This service consists of praying the psalms

and reflecting on the scriptures of Jesus’ Passion and Death

in anticipation of His Resurrection at Easter.

Chrism Mass – On Tuesday, April 16 at 5:30 pm at the Cathedral of Saint Peter the Apostle in Jackson, MS.

Bishop Kopacz will bless and consecrate the Oils of the Sick, Oil of Catechumens and the Sacred Chrism at this Mass. Representatives from all the parishes will receive their oils and carry them back to their parishes in time for Holy Thursday.

Easter season by taking a flower from the Blooming Tree

found in the gathering space. Bring a flower matching

the bloom to the church by Sunday, April 14.

EASTER ENVIRONMENT – We will be getting the

church ready for Easter on Saturday morning, April 20th

at 9:30am. Anyone who has a little time is welcome to

help us get everything in place for our celebrations.

Iglesia para la Pascua el sábado 20 de abril a las 9:30 am.

Si tiene un poco de tiempo será bienvenido a ayudarnos a

COMMUNION

FAMILY IDEAS At the Last supper on the night before he died, Jesus gave us

the gift of the Eucharist. We don’t have to earn this gift. The

Eucharist is freely given to us out of god’s love for each of

us. In coming forward to Communion, we are united with

Jesus Chris and with one another. After we receive

Communion, we kneel to thank God in our hearts and to ask

for the help we need to live as Jesus taught us.

Stress to the children that God loves each of them with an

unending love. The gift of the Eucharist is a gift given out of

God’s love for us. Encourage children to be open to the

possibilities in life. Our past does not determine our future.

All things are possible with God.

Stress with the children reverence for the Eucharist. Teach

them how to walk in procession to receive Jesus with their

hands folded at the waist, eyes down, talking to Jesus on the

way as preparation for receiving Him into their hearts.

Never should they be talking, laughing, shaking hands on

the way. The same posture should be held on the way back

to their bench. Often, it seems that we don’t really know

what is happening when we receive the body of Christ, God

Himself. Great reverence is called for. Start early to teach

this and model it yourself.

The Eucharist commits us to serving others. As a family,

share ways to do this, such as visiting someone in a care

center, helping children in need in the community, and

saying something kind instead of being critical.

FAMILY PRAYER- Lord Jesus Christ, at the Last Supper

with your disciples you gave us the amazing gift of your

presence in the Eucharist. Help us to serve others, just as

you were the servant of all. We ask you to bless our family

and help us live as your disciples each day. Amen.

NOTE TO FIRST COMMUNION FAMILIES- The

whole family can come forward at Communion time.

Parents and family members who are not able to receive

Communion can still come forward and receive a blessing.

They are examples of faith to their children.

EN ESPAÑOL

Enséñeles a sus hijos a tener reverencia por la Eucaristía así

como a caminar en procesión para recibir a Jesús con sus

manos dobladas en la cintura, con los ojos hacia abajo,

hablando con Jesús en el camino como preparación para

recibirlo en sus corazones. Nunca deben estar hablando,

riendo, agitando las manos en el camino. La misma postura

debe mantenerse en el camino de regreso a su asiento. A

menudo, parece que no sabemos realmente lo que está

sucediendo cuando recibimos el cuerpo de Cristo, Dios

mismo. Se requiere gran reverencia. Comienza temprano a

enseñar esto y ejemplifícalo tú mismo.

La Eucaristía nos compromete a servir a los demás. Como

familia, comparta maneras de hacer esto, como visitar a

55. This is one of the great convictions that the

Church has come firmly to hold. It is so clearly

expressed in the word of God that there can be no

question of it. Like the supreme commandment of

love, this truth should affect the way we live, for it

flows from the heart of the Gospel and demands that

we not only accept it intellectually but also make it a

source of contagious joy. Yet we cannot celebrate

this free gift of the Lord’s friendship unless we

realize that our earthly life and our natural abilities

are his gift. We need “to acknowledge jubilantly that

our life is essentially a gift, and recognize that our

freedom is a grace. This is not easy today, in a world

that thinks it can keep something for itself, the fruits

of its own creativity or freedom”.[61]

UN LLAMADO A LA SANTIDAD

55. Esta es una de las grandes convicciones

definitivamente adquiridas por la Iglesia, y está tan

claramente expresada en la Palabra de Dios que

queda fuera de toda discusión. Así como el supremo

mandamiento del amor, esta verdad debería marcar

nuestro estilo de vida, porque bebe del corazón del

Evangelio y nos convoca no solo a aceptarla con la

mente, sino a convertirla en un gozo contagioso.

Pero no podremos celebrar con gratitud el regalo

gratuito de la amistad con el Señor si no

reconocemos que aun nuestra existencia terrena y

nuestras capacidades naturales son un regalo.

Necesitamos «consentir jubilosamente que nuestra

realidad sea dádiva, y aceptar aun nuestra libertad

como gracia. Esto es lo difícil hoy en un mundo que

cree tener algo por sí mismo, fruto de su propia

originalidad o de su libertad»[61].
