01/09/2012 A passion for architecture before a formal architec tural education

I am fascinated by the creation of seductive forms, not fol-

lowing any specific organizational or spatial requirements. The ge-

ometry emerging from a Zaha Hadid building and flowing out onto the

surrounding landscape captivates me and renders me blind in front

of functional necessities. These seductive forms allowed me to ac-

quire a certain nave perception of architecture, simply focusing on

visual representation, rather than worrying about all the functional

and spatial requirements which make up the profession.

    Is form enough?

01/01/2013 A first semester in architecture a formal understand ing of space.

Are my designs a reflection of myself?

I am progressing more and more every day, however, it is to-

wards the past that I find myself looking, seeking inspiration and

understanding. Contemporary questions surrounding technology and

sustainability failed to grasp my attention. I would seldom find

myself looking back at architects from the 1960s such as lAtelier

Montrouge and Renaudie. Brutalism took hold of me and greatly in-

fluenced the way in which I perceived and in turn created intricate

facades which translated my love for concretes true materiality. Le

Corbusiers saying below portrays my appreciation for architecture

    at this point in time.

Puissent nos btons si rudes, rvler que sous eux, nos sensi-

    bilits sont fines .

(May the rough concrete finishes of our modern concrete construc-

tions find a way of revealing our deepest internal sensitivities).

    01/07/2014 Graduation result

A shy architecture, stuck in its own mundaneness

Relieved to have finally found my own voice and expression

which I had long been searching for, my academic experience at

the ENSACF managed to satisfy my architectural needs, as well as

launched me on a new path of self-discovery. A new question now

took hold of me. How do I practice and communicate my architectural

notions and visions to the world?

I believe that each school, through its education, instills in

its students a certain way of thinking and resolving problems. This

is why I believe that I must go and discover new ways of thinking

and new ways of seeing the concrete outcomes which come out of

radical new ideologies. I wish to create my own vision of what ar-

chitetcure is and should be. My year on exchange at McGill Univer-

sity is the start of this journey towards the discovery of my own

way of seeing architecture. Architecture should be the expression

of a specific personal ideology which is seldon found by immersing

oneself in a radically different environment.

The concrete outcome of architectural dreams ?

15/03/2015 It is time do add water to the cement

My journey in North America has proven to be life changing.

I have managed to adapt quite quickly to a new lifestyle and become

fluent in a new language. I spent my first semester of architecture

at McGill studying under Talia Dorsey, in a specialized design studio

interested in urban context and program based design.

My second semester opened my eyes to a new way of perceiving

the arcitecture process. Both my teachers, Martin Bressani and Aaron

Sprecher, pushed me and made me see that creating impossible forms

is possible if their content remains as true and engaging as their

shell. I am now beginning to see in architecture more than just

the seductive forms which first enticed me, I see in architecture

the realization of formal ideologies rooted in social, environmen-

tal and cultural parameters. I believe that this is what I had been

searching for as a means to complement my preconceived architectur-

al notions. I hope that this new way of thinking is still only the

    begining.

The intention behind this project is to illustrate the power of architecture and its ability to asso-ciate radically different programs

which respond to the needs of a complexe society.

    The principal program is the

STELLA association which bene-fits from the monumentality of the

old theater to increase its cam-paign which aims at supporting

the sex workers. The project aims

at reuniting all the generations of

the neighborhood around anima-tions (conferences, performanc-es...) and creative workshops. A

game of variations in the nature

    of separative systems builds filters

of different levels without ever cre-ating a radical limit between the

    spaces. The architectural process

    subtly combines these two worlds

    while ensuring a confortable dis-tance.

  • Freycenet-la-Tour Etang des Barthes

froM the PoND to the Plate

In 2013, a wind turbine park was created on

the municipality. Its financial impact encouraged the

development of the pond of Barthes. In the expec-tation of this water retention program initiative, new

attractions should be created to reinvigorate the vil-

lage. However well connected with the GR and

the RD500, one year after the constat reveals

that the project fonction in an anecdotic way.

Our intervention takes aim at the operation ben-efits of the village center and inscribes itself at

the scale of the Mezenc territory.

    After taking advantage of the

natural setting of the Barthes and

    the local activities, direction towards

the village to taste the frogs from

the pond. This will be the occasion

to meet and discover the other local

    producers. The restaurant located

at the entrance of the village will ap-peal to the curious tourists, whom

will eat in a large open room wide

    open onto the valley. Accompanied

by a small grocery store and a bar,

the project will also benefit the res-idents of the village. Conversely,

foodies whom tasted the frogs from

the restuaurant might be interest-ed in discovering the production

space. They will appreciate the set-ting of the complex.

Situated at the entrance of the village of Freycenet-la-tour, the

land is at the intersection of two major ateries. The project is at the

junction of the RD500 (a major axis

of Mezenc), the RD278 which links

the village to the Gazeille valley and

the GR which leads to the pond

of Barthes. The village sits on the

hillside and the site opens to the coutryside. The principal program

    being a restaurant, the intention

was to conceive an iconic building

as well as a panoramic one. The

challenge of the project was to

begin a dialog with the landscape

    and revitalize the town center.

    One building for three programs

    Garden level

Ground floor: Restaurant and grocery store

    First floor: Housing

    The restaurant is the major

element of the project. It invites it-self in a light box with a cladding

which echos the frog farm pro-gram and where the panoramic

facade opens up to the valley. The

rest of the project which welcomes

staff housing, a bar and a small

grocery store is treated in a more

    mineral way (smooth concrete).

These latter programs are princi-pally intended for the daily life of the residents.

    Territory of the Mzenc, Haute-Loire ( France ) S2_ 2013-2014

    Supervisors: D. ROBIN, R. JANNIN, P. GROSMOND, F. MULEPartner: A. CHERON

The pond of Barthes is locat-ed on the plateau of the Mezenc, along the RD500, 2km from the

village. The dominant figures of the

landscape are the void defined by

the pond and the dense rrest that surrounds it. The objective was

to integrate the project with the

landscape in order to respect the wilderness surroundings while re-vealing the emblematic figures of

the site. Furthermore the develop-ment completed by the municipal-ity suffered from an autonomous

programs. Therefore it was primor-dial to reconnect them. Another

    important point: the residents have

    always been called grenouillard

    (froggies) and there exists only

    one frog farm in France.

The port and industrial site of the lock basins of Bordeaux con-stitute a real urban rupture. From a

landscape framed by the built to a

situation where the void fills the set-ting. We can observe an absence

of services, a radical change in

    scale (fragmented, infrastructure),

a rupture in the urban fabric and an arbitrary composition. However

the fragmented nature of the soil

and the gigantic dimension of the

elements are carriers of a certain

    richness.

The project consists in ac-cepting the urban accident and

    amplifying the atypical landscape

all while replacing it at the scale of

    the pedestrian.

Beyond the importance of conserving the identity of the port, there is a

this random and decomposed image that the site reflects. A sort of battle-field filled with void where large entities battle each other.

    The existing becomes the project

    suggests the scale and induces

the form. The program creates the

    unexpected, develops, flows and

In a general manner, the void gen-erates the space.

    Towards a greener brutalist language

The idea is to affirm the unit

of measure present on the site.

We assume the repetitive effect in

    the construction of the dwellings

with the assmbly of modules. The

    rough and monumental aspect lies

in the linear facade and is accentu-ated by the abruptness of the con-crete. The slits in the wood plank-ing create rhythm in the ensemble.

The access to the dwelling is a

    One of the major objectives

is to create a more coherent image

for this polluted and unsanitary part of Vichy. Which is for now in

    contradiction with the thermal well

symbolized by the city. The pro-posed solution is to recover the

water from the Sichon onto the

public space using manually ac-tivated mechanism. A system of

    pumps with pistons connected to

    specific urban furniture splashes

the fountains. The project lies at

the intersection of a recreational and sporty caracter to restore an image of clean water to the river.

    The activities address children as

well as adults. The Sichon, which

was an ancient rupture, now be-comes a new intensive line.

Situated in the downtown of Clermont-Ferrand, The space

of the young sprouts is exposed

    North-East to a watershed offering

    a panorama of the municipality.

    Sheltered and out of sight

from the road, the site contains

traces of a past and clandestine life. The objective of developping

this wild fallow in a public park pre-serves all the intimacy of the site re-served to the inhabitants in a shar-ing atmosphere. The creation of the

recreational center in this location ensures a continuity in the history of the site as well as conserving its

    spirit.

Developped upon a bru-talistic approach, a regular sys-tem of succesive prefabricated

    concrete posts composes the

facades and takes the role of a

    skeleton. The space between

    these two welcolmes a double

glazing and for the more intimate

spaces, the walls are poured in place onto the ribbed formwork

    creating horizontal prints on the

    concrete. The latter contrast

with the vertical posts by being

in lighter tones. From a more

technical point of view, this ver-ticality is uninterrupted due to a process of notches which sup-port the beam while leaving the

visible part of the posts up to

    the acroterion.

  • The beginning of a long journey

My travel in the world of architecture is still unravelling in

front of me. It is a journey full of pitfalls which I am ready to

partake in; because all in all, it is only on this path that I feel

free to conceive, think and fulfill myself.
