Innovate & Excel
Mission
Our mission is to be a dominant global provider of customer centric
solutions in the chosen segments of Insulation, Identification.
Aesthetic enhancements, Brand building and protection within the
industrial and mobility markets.
Our goal is to fully satisfy our customers and remain their preferred
partners through constant innovation, R&D expertise and world

Innovation towards Excellence
Our commitment towards innovation and excellence began with a visionary idea to be one of
the world's leading companies in tapes.
We started our operations in India with a limited number of pressure sensitive tapes as
Permacel, a division of Johnson & Johnson Ltd (J&J). By constant innovation and introduction of
new technologies by our in-house R&D team, our product range expanded to specialty pressure
sensitive tapes, electrical insulation tapes and laminates, thermal insulation products, graphics,
decals and identification labels, brand protection products to fight counterfeiting and
duplication.
In 1999, J&J exited the business and we became a new company called PRS Permacel Private
Limited. The new company continued its innovative path after 1999, which resulted in the
company having many domestic and international patents. Our innovative product received an
award at global IHMA (International Hologram Manufacturers Association) in USA in 2012.
Today we are an ISO 19001 and ISO 14001 certified company and our automotive division is
16949 certificated.
Our innovation under 'Temper Evident Innovation' category was recognized as 'highly
commended' by the highly experienced international bench of jury at PISEC 07 conducted in
London U K on 20 November, 07.
In March’ 2011 our In-house R&D Unit was accorded recognition by Department of Scientific
and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi.
Today, with over 50 years of experience, an excellent track record of innovation in India and
under a financially strong group and committed management, we at PRS Permacel are pioneers
in all the business areas we service.
Our R&D Mission is to maintain our technological leadership position globally by timely
adoption of new technologies, protecting our intellectual property and faster development of
innovative product combinations thereby creating profitable value to business and delighting
customers. It is a proactive support to our world class manufacturing plant to achieve our goals
and to make our process environment friendly.
Research and development is important both to our growth and productivity. It will not be
wrong to think that R&D driving growth and new products development. However, it is also
very important to keep our current products affordable and current in technology.

Materiality Analysis
The key priorities for time, resources, and investments for business operations are crucial in the
success of any organization. Materiality is the principle of defining social, economic and
environmental aspects those that matter to the organization.
Our materiality assessment exercise helped us to define what we are passionate about and
where we can make the most positive impact. Materiality helps us focus on the areas that truly
matter to the stakeholders and the business, enabling the allocation of internal resources
towards well-targeted goals and initiatives.
Our materiality matrix was developed through in house brainstorming session. We used the
Indicators list from the GRI G4 Guidelines and arrived at the first list of material topics. These
topics were then prioritized into categories of Low, Medium and High and Extreme. The
prioritization was done based on how they impact our business and how they impact our
stakeholders.
The topics that are material to stakeholders were also chosen by the management based on
feedback from stakeholders. A questionnaire was collected from stakeholders to get their
inputs on material aspects.
On the basis of the defined project boundary according to various management and
stakeholder identified issues, the following aspects have been defined as the key materiality for
our company:
Materiality Issues Aspects
Customer Satisfaction Product and Service Labeling
Research and Innovation Non GRI Aspect
Marketing Product and Service Labeling
Waste Generated Effluents and Waste
Energy Consumption and Efficiency Energy Consumption
Occupational Health and Safety Occupational Health and Safety
25
Stakeholder Engagement
We at PRS Permacel believe that Stakeholder engagement can greatly help us in aligning our
business priorities with growth and improving decision making and accountability within the
company. It also helps build a relationship of trust and collaboration. It also helps in creating a
safe environment for the workforce, customers and the community as a whole. In order to
develop this report, we therefore engaged with our key stakeholders; namely banks,
customers, suppliers and employees. We identified our key stakeholders by considering their
impact on our business and the value we create for them in return.
Method of Engagement
We circulated questionnaires to the key stakeholder groups trying to get their perspectives on
what environmental and social issues matter most to them. These inputs were considered in
the development of the company’s materiality matrix.
Customers
Our ability to develop products and customize them as per the requirement of our customers is
the key determinant of our business growth and success. Constant innovation and collaboration
with our customers has always helped us build a strong business and at the same time create
trust. We engage with our customers on topics of quality, product delivery and new product
development. The frequency of engagement is linked to product delivery. Engagement with
them to assess customer satisfaction is done once in two years.
Employees
We believe that our success depends on the success and wellbeing of our employees. A
satisfied workforce is a productive workforce. We therefore engage with our employees in
different ways to understand their expectations, aspirations and needs and accordingly try to
26
meet them. We provide adequate opportunities to them in the form of training and learning
sessions and help them grow.
We were carrying out employee satisfaction surveys to understand employee expectations and
needs. However, we felt limited by the results of the survey because it could capture employee
satisfaction but not guide us on how to improve. In the reporting year we therefore initiated a
SWOT analysis to capture employee perceptions of the company. The Managing Director meets
personally with departments and functions to understand their expectations and aspirations.
We are assured of the effectiveness of our employee engagement and satisfaction in our high
employee retention rates.
Team PRS Permacel Participating in the Standard Charter Marathon
Suppliers
We engage with our suppliers on various topics like quality of material supplied, price and
quality. We expect industry standards of business conduct from our Supplier that does business
with us. Compliance with these standards is a mandatory component of our purchase contracts
worldwide and also applies to subcontractors and distributors.
Banks
Banks have a considerable impact on firms for cash flow related purposes and hence we engage
with banks on continuous basis for carrying forward the firms operations.

Research and Innovation
R&D Objectives
To contribute towards sales growth of PRS Permacel business by introducing new products.
To take lead in identifying new technologies appropriate for PRS Permacel business and introduce them for PRS Permacel products. To contribute towards profit of the company by constantly improving the process and reducing cost. To make PRS Permacel manufacturing activities environment friendly.
A History of Innovation
As Permacel, we have always been on the forefront of innovation. We were pioneers in
speciality-printing technology in India. In late 1970s, our products as Permacel were
manufactured in India at the Mulund plant of Johnson & Johnson Ltd (J&J). In the global
restructuring process, in 1982 Johnson & Johnson divested the world-wide business of
Permacel except India. After this, we stopped receiving further inputs from the corporate R&D
of J&J. We thus started our independent innovation journey and delivered growth and served
the industry with many new products. We were successful in getting the DSIR approval for the
recognition of In-house R&D facilities. Our facility was approved by DSIR under Reference
TU/IV-11 (1) /99-2000 & TU / IV –RD/341/2000.
Following are some of the examples of new range of products introduced by Permacel in India
by way of its in-house R&D innovations
Pioneered the self-adhesive tape and label industry in India
First company to manufacture flame retardant range of insulation tapes in India
First to introduce Varnish rich tapes in India
First to develop insulation scheme for Class 200 motors for Indian Railways
Pioneers in new technology for auto applications like lacquer able decals and pre-lacquered
decals
First to develop in-house tamper evident stock for meter seals.
28
In August 1999 Permacel was sold to Premchand Roychand and Sons. The new company was
christened PRS Permacel Private Limited. Manufacturing and R&D activities continued at
Andheri plant till we later moved to our current manufacturing plant.
We are the only company in India in our industry segment to be awarded the Integrated
Management System certification covering ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
Our Achievements
“After the formation of PRS Permacel Private Limited, we have filed 46 patents in Indian Patent
Office. Out of these 31 patents have been granted and rest are under evaluation. We also have
patent on 'In-house tamper evident stock for meter seal' granted by European Patent Office
(EPO) and is valid in Great Britain, Germany and Switzerland. This patent is also granted by
Singapore Patent Office.”
Our R&D achievements during the past 3 years are listed below:
New Products Developed
Cut Back Tape (P 414): Glass cloth based high temperature masking tape was developed for
use of epoxy powder coating on pipes. By using this tape as a cut back tape pipe
manufacturers do not have to cut and remove coated powder for welding of pipes. This has
resulted in saving energy and improvement in productivity.
Cargo tape (P 205): High Tensile Glass cloth flame retardant tape used for cargo holding
area. This tape can withstand the temperature fluctuations especially at very low
temperatures without losing its holding power.
Double side tape (P 760): A highly conformable both side adhesive coated tape having
differential adhesive strength was introduced for casting/manufacturing of blades for wind
mills.
Auto Primer A: Adhesion promoter was developed for enhancing the bonding of
Polypropylene parts on painted metal body of automobiles.
Suretune: Audio visual detection in security/ brand protection seals: This is an innovative
concept by which authenticity of a genuine product can be detected by visual as well as
audio means.
Automobile graphics for robotic application: In order to increase productivity, automobile
manufacturers are introducing lots of automation including application of labels on fuel
tank. We were first to develop labels, which can give bubble free application on tank body
whether applied manually or by robots.
29
In-house developed application tape: We successfully completed the development of
application tape, which can lead to major cost saving. It can also substitute imported
materials and thereby reduce the environmental footprint of transport.
Case Study: Innovative Insulation Solution for Tata Steel
Problem: Ineffective conventional insulation for wire rod mill hood within available space
Conventional Insulation Material was not able to endure temperature of 800˚c and loose
particles would fall on hot steel wires leading to contamination of steel wires.
Constraints: Material Temperature endurance and ease of fitment.
Our innovation: Supertherm 20, which can endure 1000˚ c. The thickness of the insulation is
also reduced at 20 mm against 50 mm, which was needed in conventional insulation.
Case Study: Reducing Temperature of ECU/ Driver Area for Mahindra and
Mahindra (Tractors)
Problem: Temperature on ECU/ driver area was 90˚c post insulation resulting in malfunctioning
of ECU during service. Conventional Insulation could not endure the surface temperature of
250˚c
Constraints: Gap of only 20mm for insulation material.
Our innovation: P510 FRA- Complete FR product, which can endure 250 ˚c. Temperature on ECU
was reduced to 60 ˚c.

Besides the new products developed which help reduce the environmental and social footprint,
we constantly work to control pollution and energy consumption at our manufacturing plant
during production. Some of the steps taken are highlighted below:
Pollution Control
We use water based inks in flexo printing and UV curable inks in screen printing. This helps
us to minimize the use of hazardous substances.
We have reduced the solvent content in solvent based rubber adhesives formulations that
we use for our products.
Re-use of silicone liners recovered from one product in another product during process to
reduce waste.
Energy Conservation at the Manufacturing Plant
As a constant effort to conserve energy, every year we undertake cost reduction projects,
which include speed increase, reduction of quantities etc.

environment management and protection.
We are not only compliant with all the
applicable environmental regulation, but
we are continuously moving beyond
compliance to the adoption of the
precautionary approach to environmental
protection. We have focused our effort on
waste management and energy efficiency
during our operations.
Environmental Management System
We obtained an ISO 14001 certification in
year 2001. Today we are certified by SGS as
an ISO 14001:2004 facility. We maintain a
comprehensive Environment Management
System, which incorporates principles of
prevention of pollution and promotes clean
and safe environment in the organization.
We have set targets for reducing our water
and energy footprint. Also we are working
to reduce our emission of volatile organic compounds in our business operations.
Energy Efficiency
We focus on energy efficiency initiatives and work towards achieving a balance between
manufacturing procedures and the environment. Energy efficient initiatives have shown
positive impacts on cost reduction and are a part of company’s core strategy. Every month, we
calculate the energy consumption and link it with the expenditure to have the better
understanding of scope for saving energy.
Waste Management
We at PRS Permacel are committed to reducing waste generation, reusing / recycling the waste
generated and disposing it in an environmentally sustainable manner.
34
Energy
Energy is considered as a key parameter in cost calculation for the manufacturing industry. Our
demand for energy is fulfilled by two main sources namely Electricity and Fuel resources. PRS
Permacel is taking cognitive efforts in reporting the energy numbers on the card. The total
energy consumption in the reporting year is represented below
We arranged a training session on 5th June, the World Environment Day. The theme of the
training was “Environment Ethics: Challenges and Solutions to preserve our Environment”.
The lecture was given by Dr. Sugandha Shetye, Associate professor, Department of
Chemistry and Environment Science, Coordinator from KJ Somaiya College and also the life
member of Bombay Natural History Society engaged in conservation and biodiversity
research.

We always focus on Energy efficient initiatives and work on the sustainable solutions for
achieving balance between manufacturing procedures and Environment. Energy efficient
initiatives have shown the positive impacts on cost reduction and considered as a part of
company’s core strategy. In every month, we calculate the energy consumption and link it with
the expenditure to have the better understanding of scope for saving energy.
Waste
We generate different types of waste as a result of our operations. We classify our waste into
three broad categories namely Hazardous, Non-Hazardous and Recyclable.
Category Description
Non Hazardous Paper and cloth cuttings used in making tapes and labels
Hazardous Chemical, Solvents, Cotton waste, Adhesive's, paints, Used Oil and films
Recycled Packing materials, Paper Putta, Wooden waste, Metal Scrap
Hazardous Waste
Hazardous waste, if recyclable is handed over to a registered recycler for handling and disposal.
Hazardous waste, which cannot be recycled, is disposed in an approved and authorized
hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facility (TSDF).
In the reporting year we disposed 16 ton of hazardous waste in the TSDF.
36
Water
Water conservation is an integral part of our Environmental Management Program. Water is
crucial for our business operations. Water is utilized in production process as well as for
maintaining green belt, drinking and domestic use. We are a zero discharge unit. The sewage
and industrial effluent is treated in an Effluent Treatment Plant and the treated water is used in
maintaining the green belt.
On an average, the company utilizes around 1000 cubic meters per month in the reporting year.

We strive to delight our customers with latest technology and high quality products. It is evident that we constantly work towards improving our products for meeting all requirements and expectations of our clients. In order to better our customer’s expectations, we conduct a customer satisfaction survey every year. The objective of the survey is to examine trends over time so that we can take action on a timely basis, upgrade our products, meet the requirement for TS-16949 and determine how well our company is meeting customer expectations and requirements in comparison with our competitors. The parameters, which are covered in the survey, include product quality, responsiveness, product delivery standards etc. The methodology adopted for customer satisfaction survey is specified in detail below:
The customer satisfaction survey (CSS) is conducted every 3 years and key findings are
interpreted and implemented after detailed discussions with the top management. We plan to
conduct an e-survey from the next cycle of Customer satisfaction survey analysis.
We conduct this survey through internal assessments and do not involve any external agency
for the same. The customer satisfaction survey is carried out on PAN India basis.
The key findings for the last survey were need for establishing independent Design department
