Regardless of the interface the user selects, roles and permissions to use various Quin-C functionality are set by the system administrator same as they were in prior release.

Mobile Data Extraction Quin-C extracts and categorizes as much or more mobile data as does the competition — from UFED

reports (UFDRs) to emails to 25+ chat applications — then helps you do more with what you

extract.

Mobile Device Info Parsing Quin-C now supports seamless parsing of mobile system information with the ability to carve data

from iOS and Android file systems. Android device information such as system version, registered

owner, device activation timestamp, and WiFi access points saved to the device.

Chat Parsing All supported chat data streams are now formatted in a way that investigators want to see them

presented. In this release, Quin-C Parse supports the following 25+ chat application.

Apple SMS Facebook Messenger Flock Google Hangouts

Grindr GroupMe ICQ imo plus

Instagram Kik Line MeetMe

MeowChat Microsoft Teams Nextplus ooVoo

Paltalk Skype Slack Telegram

TextMe Touch Twist Viber

VIPole WhatsApp Xabber

Besides adding chat types, we’ve expanded the metadata fields that can be parsed from a mobile dataset. For example: an app’s registered owner, chat users’ display pictures, the total number of chats the target was involved in, and more.

Mobile data review This feature enables easy, intuitive review of UFED reports (UFDRs), XRY case files, email and chat conversations in a near-native viewer that plays all media files as well. With this release, users can easily review chat data with a dedicated filter that lets them read chats from whatever point of view they choose. Users choose which subject’s POV is most important for review, and all that subject’s messages will then be aligned on the right side of the viewer, as they usually are in native applications. Manually add translations and other notes to messages and conversations.

Chat Application Analysis Sort or filter chat messages based on contact or message count (regardless of the messaging

application that created it). Show all the relevant applications the contact is associated with and

display all that subject’s chats from any application.

On the Case Explorer > Application View Panel displays all application types in a case. When the user

selects an app and clicks on a message, the viewer shows not only that message, highlighted, but the

+/- messages for context. Toggle views to the social analyzer for an interactive graphic.

Loadfile Support Export data from the system with a wide range of formats including AD1; native file format exports,

Summation browser briefcase; loadfiles for Summation®, Concordance®, and Relativity®.

New Features Exclusive to Quin-C Legal

Review Interface Review is a custom user interface configuration tailored specifically to target the workflows of legal

reviewers and attorneys. Even easier than widget-based functionality and admin-controlled

customization, this preconfigured interface gives users simplified access to predefined filters with

minimal training needed.

Review is dashboard-oriented, with the ability to create cases directly from the Cases Dashboard

and to see total and individual case data without needing to run filters or searches.

Roles and permissions to use Quin-C functionality, whether as offered in the Review interface or any

other view, are set by the system administrator same as they were in prior releases.

Cases Dashboard Previous releases of Quin-C allowed users to manually create case-level dashboards—a useful tool,

but time-consuming. With this release, the pre-built Cases Dashboard makes it faster and easier to

create, search for and open a specific case …

… and to view stats on total data, objects, bookmarks and labels across cases.

Cases Dashboard: All cases

Users can select a specific case from the “all cases” dashboard, and a pre-built case-level dashboard

displays detailed user activity, including stats on evidence, file categories, file status and labels

applied.

Cases Dashboard: Single case

Native File Viewer Newly integrated native file viewer offers faster file rendering speeds. Quin-C no longer uses Google

Colaboratory (“Colab”) to render native documents.

New Features Exclusive to Quin-C Forensic

Investigator Interface Even easier than widget-based functionality and admin-controlled customization, this preconfigured

interface gives users fast access to all the basic review functionality of Quin-C, geared toward the

purpose-driven workflow of a forensic investigator, with minimal training needed.

The “Investigator” dashboard provides an immediate list of all cases, plus clear graphical filters that

make it easy to identify cases based on timeline, size or type.

Roles and permissions to use Quin-C functionality, whether as offered in the “Investigator” interface

or any other interface, are set by the system administrator same as they were in prior releases.

Case Timeline

Zoom in on a day or time in the Case Timeline—the accompanying grid shows all the evidence

associated with that point. Improved results reflect every filter and search.

Case Explorer Choose to “explore” all files in a case, or filter by communications, media, mobile, internet or

geolocation. Each top-level filter offers finer subfilters. List view or thumbnail view lets users employ

their most intuitive way to identify what files to view.

From one intuitive screen, users can choose from among panels, or choose multiple panels

simultaneously, to find the best possible view and configuration and uncover the deepest insights

from datasets.

Investigator Interface > Media, thumbnail view

Additionally, Case Explorer demonstrates some of Quin-C’s fully integrated workflows. For example,

any chat data parsed in processing will appear in the Communications> Chat Applications sub-filter.

Similar pictures face/image detection This feature allows users to find pictures of similar faces or similar images in a case. The technology

leverages distinct algorithms on the backend for either facial detection or object detection, a time-

saving feature for investigators to shortcut the process of running a through the standard Quin-C

facial recognition workflow.

Facial detection use case: A

reviewer/investigator identifies a picture of

“Mr. X” in a case, right-clicks and selects

“show similar face” to find and show all

pictures in the case where Mr. X is present.

The user can run the same search on the

results as well.

Image detection

use case: Same

principle as

above, but

applicable for

pictures that

don’t include

faces. The user

right-clicks on a

picture, selects

“show similar

image” to get

results with all

similar images in

the case.

Image recognition This release brings faster and more consistent image recognition. Users can ignore non-relevant

data and select only the models and images on which they wish to run categorization to speed the

process.

Mobile Data Review Now users can easily review chat application data with a dedicated mobile filter that lets them read

chats from whatever point of view they choose. Users choose which subject’s POV is most important

for review, and all that subject’s messages will then be aligned on the right side of the viewer, as

they usually are in native applications. Manually add translations and notes to messages and

conversations.

Mobile Message Application Analysis This feature enables easy, intuitive review of chat conversations in a near-native viewer that plays

all media files as well. Sort or filter contacts (irrespective of the message application) based on

message count and filter the relevant application the contact is associated with.

Cross-Evidence Analysis Quin-C is known for its uniquely powerful cross-case analysis capabilities. Now we’ve added cross-

evidence contacts and geolocation features to help users make connections between data

attributes at within a single case.

Cross-Evidence Contacts Case Explorer enables users to list and filter every piece of evidence, across file types, associated

with a contact in a given case.

Page 15: Quin-C (March 2020) Release Notes

AccessData Quin-C Release Notes 15 | P a g e

Cross-Evidence Geolocation Using the Case Explorer > Map tab, users can display every piece of evidence with a geotag and filter

by country or city. See files in a detailed list format or switch to a map view to select files. Now you

can also find if in one case objects from different evidences were at the same place or nearby in a

specific time range.

Photo DNA Processing Quin-C now features integrated photo DNA processing, so users can not only find similar pictures,

they can label and distribute the photo evidence to investigators.

Important Information Please note the following:

Upgrades • Instructions for Quin-C installations which are integrated (share same ADG database) with

another AccessData application (such as FTK, LAB, Enterprise, Summation, or eDiscovery)

o DO NOT UPGRADE DATABASE SCHEMA

o Reason for not upgrading: Although Quin-C would still be functional after upgrading database schema, the other application sharing the databases will break because its application binaries are not compatible with the upgraded database schema.

o Recommendation: Use Quin-C and Q-View (March 2020 build) only for case review purposes.

o Going forward all published builds of Quin-C and FTK will be compatible with each other and released together to avoid such scenarios.

• For Standalone Quin-C environments (not integrated with FTK)

o Upgrading database schema is supported when upgrading from FTK v6.3, 7.0, 7.1 and 7.2.

o Standalone Quin-C environments are required to have database schema upgraded in order to use new functionality.

o Newly created cases WILL support new features because they will have support for the new schema, but cases whose schemas have not been upgraded will not.

o Even if a user would like to perform additional analysis (which includes some new features) on already existing cases, they would need to upgrade their database schemas.

As part of the Quin-C application upgrade, it is required to manually add the following entry in the ADG.WeblabSelfHost.exe.config file. [DRIVE]:\Program Files\AccessData\Forensic Tools\7.3\bin\ADG.WeblabSelfHost.exe.config <add key="UpgradeDatabases" value="true"/>

Don’t install any other products listed in the drop-down menus of the Quin-C installer. This release is for Quin-C (March 2020 build) only.

This installer will NOT automatically uninstall previous versions of FTK when installed to a system where FTK is detected.

Supported Platforms The following operating systems and database platforms are supported for this release:

Upgrade Related Known Issues Quin-C 7.3 integration to eDiscovery, Category Radio and Number values are not getting

assigned to Documents (QN-2528) eDiscovery 7.1.1 markups and redactions not showing up in Quin-C because they are not

supported at this time. (QN-2529) FTK 7.2 bookmark objects do not show up in Quin-C. (QN-2576) For systems that have been upgraded from FTK 7.1 or 7.2 to 7.3: Chat conversations are not

being shown in the Viewer from any Chat Applications, like Viber, WhatsApp, Kik Messenger (QN-2644)

When upgrading Quin-C to this version, the installer utilizes the previous version of the ADG.WeblabSelfHost.exe.config file and therefore is missing any new configuration keys which are relevant to the new version of the application. (QN-2555)

Fixed Issues The following items are fixed in this release:

Exports / Productions Document images can now be saved to JPG format when exporting from a “tab-production”

label set. (QN-2633) Email Headers are now imaged when using tabbed production labels. (QN-2359) Resolved issue that prevented certain DII imports to fail during import. (QN-1742) Fixed Loadfile field drop-down UI visibility issue. (QN-1658) When loading a DAT with an accompanying OPT loadfile, the import does not fail. (QN-1454 /

QN-1494) When importing a DAT file, a mapping for NATIVEFILEPATH is now available. (QN-1453) It is now possible to export just a loadfile without the need to export the associated text,

images, or natives as well. (QN-1656) When mapping to a custom field during a loadfile import, the import no longer fails. (QN-1493) On export window, images are now displayed properly so that the investigator can choose the

appropriate image export options. (QN-1660) The “Use Delimiters” checkbox on the Loadfile tab now works as expected. (QN-1661 / QN-

1689)

Processing ABBYY OCR processing now properly handles all image files stored in folder / subfolder structure

hierarchy. (QN-2457) Compelson data parsing now functions as expected. (QN-2150)

Search Investigator’s document notes are now searchable. (QN-1523) Advanced Index Search column filter searches now return appropriate results. (QN-1508)

User Interface Imported Active Directory user metadata columns are now properly labeled within the user

interface. (QN-1663) Addressed issue that allowed two labels with the exact same name to be created within Quin-C.

(QN-1698) Active Directory configuration values are now properly saved and stored into the application

configuration. (QN-2458) Review interface mode searches against the Case Dashboard now returns results as expected.

(QN-2563)
