It’s hard to believe that summer is fast approaching! April went by so quickly! And April showed us that April showers really do bring May flowers. Unfortunately the weather rained
out both our Beautification Day and the Frederick Keys to Reading game. Beautification Day will be rescheduled this month, so please be sure to check the calendar for the new date. Any student who earned a Frederick Keys to reading ticket can trade in their ticket for the original game for any other Keys game this season. Queridas familias y amigos de Rock View,
¡Parece mentira lo rápido que se acerca el verano! ¡Abril ha pasado tan rápido! Y abril nos enseñó que realmente abril lluvioso traen a mayo florido y hermoso. Por desgracia tuvimos
que cancelar por lluvia nuestro Día de Embellecimiento de la Escuela y el juego Frederick Keys to Reading. El día de Embellecimiento será trasladado a este mes, así que por favor asegú-rense de comprobar el calendario para no perderse la nueva fecha. Todos los estudiantes que ganaron una entrada para Frederick Keys to reading pueden cambiar su boleto para la fecha original por otro juego esta temporada. El tiempo no afectó nuestra Feria del Libro de Pri-mavera la cual fue un tremendo éxito gracias a Jenn Kaczor y a muchos, muchos voluntarios. Gracias a todos los que participaron.

RVES NAACP Council Meeting
In February, the RVES NAACP parent council hosted a speaker from the Parent Academy. The presen-
tation provided helpful and timely information to parents with children who were about to take the MSA. There was a request to have this presentation made again a couple of weeks prior to the MSA tests next year.
The March meeting was cancelled due to prepara-tions for the International Night.
At the April 28th meeting, Mr. Heatwole will discuss Performance Based grouping and the New Integrated Curriculum and what that means for RVES and our children.

1. Where did you grow up? I grew up in New York, in a suburb just north of New York City. Go Yankees!
2. Do you have any siblings? Yes, I have a younger brother. He is a pilot in the Air Force.
3. What was your favorite subject in elementary school? I liked math the most when I was younger.
4. What was your favorite class in high school? I took a class called Literature with a Difference. It focused on stories about cultures from around the world. I liked it because I was able to enjoy the stories and learn interesting things about people from other countries. It made me want to visit places that were different from what I was familiar with. I also liked the class because my teacher was very strict! She forced us to work hard and because we did, we became strong thinkers and powerful writers.
5. Where did you go to college? I went to Loyola College in Maryland, now called Loyola University. I got my masters in New York City at Lehman College.
6. What do you enjoy doing when you are not at school? I love to travel. I have lived in three countries besides the United States and continue to explore different countries and cultures when I can. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and trying new things. Now that it’s spring, I’m looking forward to spending more time outside!
7. What is the current book you are reading? Goodbye for Always: The Triumph of the Innocents by Cecile Kaufer. It’s a biography of a child who survived the Holocaust.
8. What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? I have two favorites, mint chocolate chip and coffee. They taste even better when I mix them!
9. If you weren't a teacher, what would you be doing for a livingI love teaching, but if I couldn’t be a teacher, I’d want to play for the New York Yankees :-)… or maybe be a child psy-chologist. I have a degree in psychol-ogy and have always been passionate about understanding children. I like having a profession where I can help others.
10. What is your favorite thing about RVes? I like the people: students, staff, and families.

También disfrutaba la clase por que mi profesora era muy estricta! Nos obligaba a trabajar duro y gracias a ello nos convertimos en buenos escritores y pensadores
5. ¿Dónde fue a la Universidad? Fui al Loyola College de Mary-land, lo que ahora es conocido como Universidad Loyola. Mi master lo saqué en New York City en el Lehman College.
6. ¿Qué le gusta hacer cuando no está en la escuela? Me en-canta viajar. Además de los Estados Unidos, he vivido en tres países y sigo explorando diferentes países y culturas siempre que puedo. También disfruto pasando tiempo con mis amigos y probando cosas nuevas. Y ahora que llega la primavera, estoy deseando pasar más tiempo al aire libre!

April 5, 2011 PTA MeetingbullyingMrs. Fogle, Rock View’s school counselor, gave a presen-tation on bullying. Bullying is intentional, happens more than once, and is a marked imbalance of power between the bully and the victim/target. The school can provide help if you think your child is being bullied or if your child is the bully. Types of bullying include physical, verbal, psychological, and cyberbullying.

• Rock View will maintain current staffing levels and not lose any positions due to budget cuts.
• The addition is nearing completion, but the move will not take place until the summer.
• There will be some changes coming next year with respect to the following:
• Lunch and recess times (each grade will have its own and some grades may do recess before lunch); first lunch at 10:45am, last lunch at 1:15pm
• Realigning behavior plan so that each grade (K-5) uses the same language
• Curriculum: impact of implementation of the new Elementary Integrated Curriculum (EIC) and a possible model shift school-wide to generate more heteroge-neous classrooms (moving away from performance-based grouping by classroom).
