MYALL LAKES ENVIRONMENTAL WEEKEND

AT ONE WITH NATURE

Last weekend saw 12 members and friends make the annual pilgrimage to the beautiful Myall Lakes. After a relaxing trip via punt and yacht, the first of the nature discussions commenced while dinner was being prepared.

After an early night, several environmental activities then took place including bush walks and kayaking on the beautiful waters at the camp site. Saturday night’s meal was a real epicurean delight with pot roasted venison, with a port and cranberry jus, potatoes, peas and salad and dessert washed down with some fine wines and even better fellowship.

Although TV coverage of the World Cup Rugby Final not available, it meant gathering around a radio was the best our sports loving environmentalist could manage. In summary a wonderful relaxing weekend, truly a back to nature experience.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN

SUICIDE PREVENTION WORKSHOP

Port Stephens Suicide Prevention Network is conducted a subsidised workshop at Salamander Shores on November 19, 20 2015. Any members who would be interested in attending need to do so promptly either by initially contacting Salamander Bay Rotarian Bernie Fitzsimons on 0419 171 291 or phone Lifeline on 4940 2000 to register. This organisation does a fantastic job in our local community. More information also available online at the Lifeline website.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK Members are reminded that we need to have a working with children check completed. Around 40 % of members have supplied their WWW number to President Ann. This check will be mandatory for all volunteers in 2016.

The process involves preparing an online application at www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au Or Telephone (02)9286 7219. You then need to take the application number provided to a Motor Registry office for identification purposes. Once this is done they will provide a certificate which will be held on Club records.

THANK YOU ED PARKER Club membership Director for the past 18 months Ed Parker has stepped down from his Director role at the September Board

Meeting. Ed has made a great contribution to the Board and provide fellow Directors with some sage advice. He played a key

role in developing our Club’s New Rotarian strategy which we as a Club are now

implementing. Ed will continue to be on the membership team, along with his

duties on the Rotary Foundation team.

Chris Bartlett, our Publicity Director will take over Ed’s role as Membership Director

for the remainder of the year. President Ann thanked Ed for his positive

contribution to both the Board and the Club since joining our Club from East Maitland Rotary some 3 years ago.

DON ORR

The Board reluctantly accepted the resignation of Don Orr at their last

meeting. Don was active in several areas of the Club, however work and family

commitments has meant that Don was unable to meet his personal commitments to the Club.

He and Hilda will not be lost to the Club and will be seen assisting us at Club

activities in the future.

We hope that Don will rejoin the Club in future years as his & Hilda’s contribution

to our Club was appreciated by all.

AUSTRALIAN ROTARY HEALTH HAT DAY A gentle reminder our meeting on Thursday October 8 will be Hat Day, definitely a partner’s night with local Anglican minister and sometime comedian Kesh Govan will be our MC for the night. If you haven’t dusted off your hat yet, please do. It will be a definite FUND night. The follow Day (Hat Day) we have a Bunnings BBQ where Bunnings staff with all wear hats and will make a contribution to Australian Rotary Health…. It is a great opportunity for all parties.

OTHER MATTERS x Myall Lakes Environmental weekend last weekend in October x Bunnings BBQ next Sunday September 27 – AM & PM teams organised x Working with Children Check still required. It will be mandatory to have a WWC
