OUR MISSION
“WE STRIVE AT ALL TIMES TO ACHIEVE AND MAINTAIN ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE,
“AND SEE OUR STEADILY GROWING LIST OF SATISFIED CLIENTS
AS A POSITIVE INDICATION OF OUR PERFORMANCE IN THE PAST -
AND OUR OBJECTIVES IN THE FUTURE.”
OUR HISTORY
Formed in Johannesburg in 1967, as Charles Pein & Partners have expanded the practice into specialised areas of mechanical,
electrical and fire engineering, continuing the original principle of full involvement in projects from concept to commissioning.
We have merged with our sister Company Marepo CC which has re-structured and formed a fully Affirmative Business
Enterprise(ABE) company, CPP MAREPO CONSULTING ENGINEERS PTY Ltd
Now a Private Limited company, we have always had a strong effective base in Mechanical Engineering; firstly in conventional air-
conditioning and ventilation of buildings, later branching out into highly specialised laboratory, nuclear and hospital installations.
Once Electrical Engineering Consulting Services were introduced, we became involved in the traditional power supply and lighting
areas and communication systems, progressing to contemporary building service requirements including fire detection and
protection, security and access control, building and energy management systems.
More recently, the company has developed a highly specialised team focussing specifically on Fire Engineering. Today we offer fire
engineering solutions ranging from Rational Fire Design to integrated Life Safety Solutions through to Maintenance Management of
Assets. Even before this “Rational Fire Design” buzz-word raised its head, we were involved in such installations as Boeing Aircraft
Hangar fire protection installations, but to mention one. Therefore we are more than competent to deal with the application of
SABS 0400 standards.
In the past we have also established a Wet Services division catering for Plumbing, Drainage & Water Services and to date have
successfully designed several Buildings.
CPP MAREPO CONSULTING ENGINEERS PTY Ltd therefore now offer a TOTAL SOLUTION of Building Engineering Services as a “ONE
STOP SHOP”.
OUR INVOLVEMENT We have the technical expertise to consolidate the experience of over forty years of providing resources and services to Developers,
Property Managers, Owners and Public Services.
Our clients represent a broad cross-section of Government and the Business Community in Southern Africa, with whom we have
developed ongoing and mutually rewarding relationships. We welcome all opportunities to join with others in the development of
capital and maintenance projects with whom we can share our experience.
OUR CHALLENGE As a multi-disciplinary, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Fire and Wet Services Engineering practice which has established
techniques for working closely with other design and project administration professionals, we view the use of computer-aided
draughting and design as essential to progress, and have the latest technology in CAD systems in all our offices.
Our reputation is established for optimising time spent on design and co-ordination of projects. We are thus able to keep pace with
rapidly changing requirements, and ensure that we stay ahead during ‘fast-track’ construction projects.
OUR DEVELOPMENT We are experienced in producing Feasibility Studies and System Concept Reports carried out to test the viability of our proposals and
where Health, Fire, Safety and other Local or National Authority Agencies have to be informed, we carry out Environmental Impact
reviews and can make presentations to relevant Authorities anywhere in the World.
OUR EXPERTISE
Our technical expertise covers the design, specification and quality control of the full spectrum of services we offer, for commercial,
industrial, institutional and health development projects

PROJECT MANAGEMENT
AND
QUALITY ASSURANCE
1. INTRODUCTION
All projects are managed from start to finish by direct involvement of one of the Directors. The Project Development Process
encompasses the following:
1. Conceptual design(s).
2. Budget Calculations.
3. Detailed design.
4. Adjudication of tenderers.
5. Contract administration.
6. Commissioning.
7. Handover of project to Client.
8. Management of maintenance and guarantee period.
2. QUALITY CONTROL PROCEDURES
Aforementioned items (1.) to (8.) require various inputs from different personnel and are always effected through the Director
in-charge of that project. This ensures that there is always a Registered Engineer, checking the project throughout its
development.
2.1 Conceptual design to Client's brief
• Every different system has a preferred application. Special attention is given to the application of the various
system configurations with respect to user's requirement and the budget.
• The following is taken into consideration and tested during the conceptual design phase:
 Client's/end-user's needs.
 Client's evaluation.
 System design applications.
 Costs.
 Functionality of design.
 Energy efficiency of design
2.2 Budgets
Once the conceptual design has been finalized, a firm budget is calculated. Every endeavour must now be made by
the Client/End-user, not to change the design brief. Similarly, the Consultant must prepare tender documentation
within the budgeted cost constraints. Latest market related rates and costs are obtained from our tender cost data
system which assists us in determining more accurate budgets.
2.3 Detailed Design Engineering
• Several software programmes support our ability to calculate the engineered design parameters.
• Cross-checks are carried out, using industry norms and standards, to establish the measure of our results.
• All draughting is supported by the latest state of the art Computer Aided Draughting software and hardware
(CAD).
2.4 Adjudication of Tenders
• All the tender documentation is evaluated on the same basis. A schedule is drawn up and the salient headings
are then investigated and commented/reported on, i.e. tender price, covering letter, detail technical evaluation
etc.
• Should budgets be exceeded, at the Client's request we will negotiate cost savings with the successful Tenderer.
• We involve ourselves with the contractual aspects pertaining to the Sub-contractor's appointment.
2.5 Contract Administration
• Special attention is given to the construction phase of the project. There are essentially three facets to this
phase:
Checking and approving equipment schedules and construction drawings.
 Contract administration in the office.
 Site inspections.
2.6 Commissioning
• Ongoing on-site attendance to the commissioning and performance of the system, is monitored and checked
against the specification.
• Great care is taken to ensure that all safety systems, i.e. fire interlocks, fire dampers, emergency exhaust systems
etc. do actually work as required and specified.
2.7 Handover of Project to Client/End-user
• Before we invite the Client/End-user to witness - test the performance of the system, we insist on at least the
final draft copy of the Operating & Maintenance Manuals to be available.
• A demonstration of numerous systems is performed for the Client to prove to him the successful operation of
the installation.
2.8 Management of 1 Years Maintenance and Guarantee
• We remain actively involved with the project until the 1 year’s maintenance and guarantee is up, at which stage
a major service is called for to the installation.
• A final hand-over inspection, together with the Client, is carried out and this concludes our activities and
involvement on that project.
2.9 Conclusion
• We vigorously carry out the aforementioned activities on every project as standard procedure.
• Practical and functional systems/installations are our fundamental objectives.
• We believe in and therefore practise:
Professionalism in our day to day activities.
Quality control through our endeavours to achieve excellence in our design and application.
EMPOWERMENT POLICY
1. PHILOSOPHY / STRATEGIC PLAN
The present socio-political era necessitates that companies and individuals re-assess their future and what is needed to
ensure South Africa’s participation in the global markets, not to mention its worth in the African context. With this in mind,
the Directors of CPP Marepo have deliberated as to where we, as a company, see ourselves in the future and our
participation in and growth during these changing times.
With specific reference to Empowerment, we are pro-active and have a positive approach.
Be that as it may, as a Professional Engineering/Design Organisation, the quality of our service is, and must remain, of
primary importance. We therefore have a stringent evaluation process when interviewing all applications for staff in our
Company.
We have initiated our own programs in order to contribute to the upliftment of previously disadvantaged communities and the
following strategic decisions were taken:
1.1 Personnel
While preference will be given to previously disadvantaged communities when employing new staff, strict screening of
applicants remains essential to ensure that the level of Engineering Expertise we provide our Clients will not be
compromised.
1.2 Empowerment Via Training
The challenge is to provide more people with opportunities to become trained professionals and
we provide this training through bursaries and in-house tuition.
In conjunction with the Technikons, we established training programmes in which theoretical and practical training is
be provided to students in technical and management fields.
These programs involve our Clients and selected students who will be specifically trained with us to will go on return to
our Clients to manage and maintain systems or installations designed by the students during their training
programmes.
This serves not only to empower people, but also ensures that they have secure employment after training.
1.3 Appointments
Appointments have been negotiated with several students and professional people, whereupon we give students
permanent appointments, which together with training and appropriate mentorship, develops them to management
level within three to five years.
Professional people are appointed under a similar training and mentorship arrangement, the period of which varies
according to their experience, thus, to date we have appointed people in technical design and administration positions.
1.4 Alliances/Collaboration with Previously Disadvantaged Professional Firms
As an established practice we believe that our expertise with respect to design, project management and
administration of professional services can greatly enhance the capabilities of professionals from the previously
disadvantaged communities.
We envisage that we will work in collaboration with these firms in order to provide Technical Managerial and
Administrative training on our Client’s projects and have done so in the past.
1.5 Frank Malale Training
Frank has been with us for more than 17 years and we have supported his studies financially. He recently completed
his qualifications as fully qualified Electrician after successfully completing his trade test. He is still part of our team as
Marketing Manager and shares in the profits on each job he lands above his monthly remuneration.
2. CONCLUSION
The Directorate and Staff of CPP Marepo Consulting Engineers PTY (Ltd) are a dynamic entity, and are committed to the long
term strategies outlined above. With this attitude, we ensure a realistic approach to the circumstances of the New South Africa,
working together to the mutual benefit of everyone, especially our Clients.
PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION
Our progress made to date indicates the following:
We formed an Affirmative Business Enterprise (ABE) in 1998. The Company thus formed was called Marepo cc. Due to changes in
legislation regarding Consulting Engineers trading as CC Companies this sister Company is being phased out and we tender mainly as CPP
Marepo Consulting Engineers Pty Ltd.
Many options were investigated and ultimately we considered the option of empowering from within the existing structure to be
the most attractive.
To this end a Black male named Teddy Mathebula and an Indian male named Lenny Kistnasamy were made shareholders in Marepo
cc. Both candidates were being sponsored at Technikon, by us, in a
BTech (Mech) Engineering and Diploma (Elect) Engineering – Light & Heavy Current, respectively.
We are also sponsored the following bursaries:
1. Frans van Aardt, who is studying towards his B-Tech (Mechanical) Engineering at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).
2. Tich Musachi obtained employment in our Pretoria office and was studying towards his B-Tech in Mechanical
Engineering and has attended a number of Green Building Seminars and courses and will be writing his Green Building
Professional Accreditation course this year with assistance from our bursary programme.
3. Jacobus Grant, was studying towards his Mechanical Engineering Diploma at UNISA.
The following PDI Candidates have in the past been assisted by us in one way or another in furthering their academic careers:
Mr B Katlehong Hermanus - Pretoria Office

Mr. Moyo, a South African citizen educated in Zimbabwe and previously the City Electrical Engineer of Bulawayo, joined us in our
Johannesburg office on 1 June 1996.
He underwent an extensive training programme in our JHB offices over one year, in an endeavour to familiarise Mr. Moyo with the
culture and design philosophy in our Company. Mr. Moyo left us during 1998.
Mr Vicky Nduba - Johannesburg Office Student National Diploma: Mechanical Engineering (Johannesburg Technikon)
Mr. Nduba joined us in the Johannesburg office on 1 June 1996. He immediately commenced with our in-house practical training
programme.
Mr. Nduba continued his part-time studies in an endeavour to achieve his B. Tech degree. Mr. Nduba left us during 1998.
Mr Lenny Kistnasamy - Durban Office Chief Draughtsman
Mr Kistnasamy joined our Durban Office on 01 July 1983 as a tracer where through in-house training and his natural draughting ability he
has advanced to the position of Chief Draughtsman and “Member” of Marepo.
We provided him the opportunity to get the required training and experience throughout the period and is currently studying towards
his Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Mr Kistnasamy left our employment in 2015.

training course which he has passed admirably.
He used to manage the draughting office and assists in the minor designs and also attends several project sites to gain valuable
practical training. Mr Mathebula left our employment in 2013 to further his Golfing Career as a scratch handicap golfer.
Mr Danny Debeila – Pretoria Office
S4 Mechanical Engineering – Northern Gauteng Technician
Mr Debeila joined our Pretoria Office in May 2000 as an engineering technician in training. We have schooled Danny in CAD
draughting and had him attend our project sites to gain practical experience. Danny assists with minor design and construction co-
ordination. Mr D Debeila left our practise in 2004.
Mr Shimano Lidovho – Johannesburg Office
S4 Mechanical Engineering – Northern Gauteng Technician
Mr Lidovho joined our Johannesburg Office in March 2000 as an engineering technician in training. We similarly taught him CAD and
the basic design principles of Air Conditioning. We organised a 6 month practical training period for Mr Lidovho with an air
conditioning contracting company, where he began on 1st November 2000.
NOTES:
CPP MAREPO Consulting Engineers(PTY) Ltd have actively endeavoured to practise affirmative action employment, however, we are
experiencing great difficulty retaining these employees due to the shortage of these personnel in the market and thus the demand!
So, although we constantly train previously disadvantaged personnel, as soon as they are trained, they leave for other more
attractive opportunities, which we have been unable to match.
We wish to categorically state:
“We welcome any assistance and comment with regards Empowerment in CPP MAREPO (PTY) Ltd and will gladly entertain accommodating staff from the Client Body, or forming Joint Ventures proposed by the Client – we are open for suggestion!” With regard to the aforementioned, CPP MAREPO (PTY) Ltd have been successful in forming Joint Ventures (JV). In this regard we have had discussions and/or have Agreements/Projects in place and/or have carried out projects with the following Affirmative Business Enterprises: 1. Mncwango shaw Berriman 2. Karabo Engineering 3. Insika Consulting Engineers 4. Procon Africa 5. VKE 6. Palace Engineering 7. Khatima Engineering Services vities. Mr Lidovho decided to remain with the contracting company
