Cross indicates the person is deceased. No cross the person is alive.

Reflection The love of God compels us to choose who or what will be first in our lives. . Jesus challenges his disciples to examine who and

what they love first and foremost. We can be ruled and mastered by many different things - money, drugs, success, power or fame.

Only one Master, the Lord Jesus Christ, can truly set us free from the power of sin, greed, and destruction. The choice is ours - who

will we serve and follow - the path and destiny the Lord Jesus offers us or the path we choose in opposition to God's will and

purpose for our lives. It boils down to choosing between life and death, truth and falsehood, goodness and evil. If we choose for the

Lord Jesus and put our trust in him, he will show us the path that leads to true joy and happiness with our Father in heaven.

"Lord Jesus, your are my Treasure, my Life, and my All. There is nothing in this life that can outweigh the joy of knowing, loving,

and serving you all the days of my life. Take my life and all that I have and make it yours for your glory now and forever."

Prayers for Hurricane Season O God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices

of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of Land and Sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control. The Sea, like a lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our Land and spread chaos and disaster.

During this hurricane season we turn to You, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of

time. A Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son in this area and animated with a true

spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm -

less eternity await us. Amen

He humbled himself, becoming obedient to death,

even death on a cross, Because of this, God greatly

exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is

above every name, that at the name of Jesus

every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on

earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.

ALUMINUM POP TAB COLLECTION

The POP TAB collection period for 2019 – 2020 is in full

swing, and I reach out again to all of you

who favor that special libation that sports

an aluminum POP TAB, to please save it for

the Ronald McDonald houses in Orlando.

They depend on these yearly collections

donated by the schools participating in their

program because they help offset the cost to

shelter, comfort and care for the families as

they wait for their children to be healed.

Our collection of POP TABS, combined with the POP TABS

collected by the families and friends of Chisholm Elementary

School in NSB, weighed-in at 107 lbs this past collection

period. There’s a picture of the POP TAB collection on the

bulletin board in the vestibule at St. Gerard, check it out.

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy

Communion are lay ministers who

have been commissioned by the Bishop

of Orlando to assist the priest in

distributing Holy Communion at Mass.

They serve at all Masses at Saint

Gerard's Church – Saturdays at 4:30 pm, Sundays at 10:00 am,

Wednesdays and First Friday at 9:00 am, Holy Days, Funeral

Masses and, with special training, visits to the homebound.

Catholics in good standing must be recommended by the Pastor

to the Diocese of Orlando. They are initially trained by the

Diocese in a three hour class. These classes are held in various

locations throughout the year. Once trained, the mandates are

good for 5 years. After the initial training, Extraordinary

Ministers receive instruction on the procedures at Saint Gerard's

Church. Schedules are posted monthly. Ministers can indicate at

what Mass they prefer to serve, and are asked to find a substitute

if they are unable to serve on their scheduled day. They may be

asked to arrive thirty minutes to an hour before Mass to help

prepare for the Eucharistic celebration.

Baptized and confirmed Catholics are qualified to be

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.

Anyone interested in serving in this ministry can speak to any

Eucharistic Minister, or contact Jan Ford at 386-690-7623

The St. Gerard Ministry of Music is welcoming new members. Both choirs have room for you, but our need is currently greatest

for our Saturday afternoon liturgy. Summertime is the perfect time to begin. The music is well known and it will be a simpler time for

you to get into the rhythm of your new role as a choir member. Learn more about your faith and music, make new friendships and

exercise your lungs and brain! We are praying for you to join us in our Music Ministry for the Lord. A brief vocal range exercise is mandatory before joining. Time commitment fluctuates from

1 hour in July/August and 2 to 3 hours from September to June.

Contact Ellen Graf at 386-689-7828 or [email protected] or stop by the piano after mass and introduce yourself!

Here at St. Gerard’s, especially during the

summer, our ministries need more helpers!

If you have ever served at the altar or if

you have never served at the altar,

This a special way to continue to serve

and to assist our clergy at Mass.

Training is available.

Ladies, this means you too!

Heavenly Father, we could never thank our military men & women Policeman, fireman and 1st Responders enough for their courageous service and sacrifice to our country and its people.

Show us ways in our communities, churches, and families to thank and love them better. Keep and protect these heroes and their families, in the powerful name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

News from St. Vincent de Paul Orlando: Help us Help Others by supporting St.

Vincent de Paul Orlando’s 4th Annual

Memorial Gift in honor of a friend or

loved one. Your $25 donation in the

name of someone special will be recognized on Saturday,

October 12 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando. Proceeds

help us keep the lights on and people in their homes across

Central Florida. Mail Memorial Gifts to St. Vincent de Paul

Orlando at 770 S. Orange Blossom Trail in Apopka, FL

St. Gerard’s is in need of Ushers. We are blessed with a very spiritual

atmosphere because of all parishioners.

Now we have a need for men and women to

volunteer to be Ushers or part time Ushers to

help keep our Mass running smoothly and

reverently. We will work with your schedule

that is convenient for you. If you would only like to do the collec-

tion basket that would be very helpful. Anytime that you can give

to helping our Mass run smoothly would be greatly appreciated.

Please help us to continue our spiritual atmosphere

for all parishioners. WE NEED YOU!
