St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church
From Our Pastor, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler De Nuestro Párroco, Padre Mateo Zuberbueler
Dear Friends, The days and celebrations of December are rich in what they offer us for meditation and growth in our faith. Of course, I don’t mean so much the many Christmas (or holiday) parties which come before Christmas. There isn’t much to meditate on in this year’s most popular cookie recipe—no matter how tasty it might be. There is much food for thought and prayer in the feast days of Our Lady, in the Advent images (found, for example, in the Jesse Tree and in the many Advent calendars for chil-dren), and in the Posadas novena and the Simbang Gabi tradition. If the whole world (every person ever) was in the mind of Jesus, Our Savior, when He came and throughout His life (even now) then it is right for each of us to put our minds and hearts into a worthy welcome of Jesus as we celebrate His Birth. I was reminded by the celebration of Our Lady of Guada-lupe recently that the message proclaimed by Her image on the tilma of St. Juan Diego taught people about God’s closeness to us in the person of Jesus, specifically in the Baby Jesus. On that image of Mary there appears one single jasmine flower, which, to an Aztec person at the time, would signify that God (or gods) is distant from us. Appearing, as it does, over the womb of the expectant Mary, the flower teaches that with the birth of Mary’s Child, God will no longer be distant. Christmas is all about the closeness of God to His people, to each of us and to all of us! He wants us to approach Him with our every need and with the desires of hearts. Since Jesus’ arrival among us He has offered us a special friendship with Him. There are many ways for us to dis-regard His offer. But there are many more blessings and meaningful rewards when we accept His offer and come to Him. Welcome, Baby Jesus! We know that you make God near to us. Help us be close to you! On behalf of all of your priests here at the parish I wish you all a Merry Christmas! I pray for each of you and I wish you a renewal of your ongoing friendship with Jesus and with His Holy Mother.
With my prayers, Fr. Matthew Zuberbueler Pastor

“When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.” MATTHEW 1:24 Putting our complete trust in the Lord without ex-pecting anything in return. Striving to put God first in all things and follow Him wherever He may led us. As we prepare for the birth of our Lord, pray for the strength and courage to be a model of discipleship, just as Joseph was.

St. Anthony of Padua Adoration Society Consider spending time with Jesus present in the Eucha-rist on Wednesdays evenings. Each member of the Socie-ty strives to make a Holy Hour in the Church weekly on Wednesdays (or Friday evenings) when the Blessed Sac-rament is exposed on the altar. The pastor designates the moderator of the Society to keep the roll of members and maintain the schedule or adorers. Retirees, home schoolers, part-time employees, and tele-commuters are among those who we hope will contribute their time and devotion. For more information, pick up a registration form in the back of the church, in the lobby, or on the church web-site, www.stanthonyparish.org. Return the completed registration form to the parish office. If you still have questions, please email our Adoration Society moderator, Carmela Batol-Festin at [email protected].
