En este último domingo, mientras nos preparamos para entrar en el tiempo sagrado de la Semana Santa, medita-mos de nuevo en la importancia de
Cristo en nuestras vidas. Lo reconocemos como nuestro Salvador, y usualmente tratamos de estar más cerca de Él, con el fin de descubrir qué clase de Salvador es. Creemos que Él ha tomado la forma de esclavo; que su nombre ha sido glorificado por sobre todo nombre y que sigue sufrien-do por nosotros. Esta semana, se nos invita a reflexionar sobre el sacrificio de Cristo para salvarnos y cómo pode-mos seguir viviendo de esta salvación en nuestras vidas. Somos un pueblo rescatado del pecado a través de la sumi-sión de Cristo Jesús. A pesar de ser el Hijo de Dios, vino a nosotros en forma de esclavo, vaciándose de su condición divina, y fue abandonado, y sufrió por nosotros para que pudiéramos ser salvados y nos mostró una nueva manera de vivir. Esto nos lleva a la pregunta: ¿por qué Dios nos ama tanto hasta tal punto de entregar a su propio Hijo por nosotros? Un consuelo para nosotros es que Jesucristo se hizo uno con nosotros para mostrarnos cómo debemos de vivir. A diferencia de los líderes modernos, Jesús mismo fue el primero en aceptar sufrir y morir para mostrar el camino a Dios. El recuento de la pasión que leemos y meditamos hoy día, nos recuerda la disposición que voluntariamente el Mesías tuvo al ofrecerse a sí mismo. Su gloria y nuestra salvación fueron ganadas a un gran precio. ¿A caso nues-tras vidas muestran que somos merecedores de tal sacrifi-cio? ¿Contribuimos al reino de Dios a través de nuestras palabras y acciones? Sin lugar a dudas, tenemos un Salva-dor que se ofreció por primera vez a sí mismo por nosotros y continúa ofreciéndose como un ejemplo a seguir. Así co-mo Él estuvo dispuesto a humillarse en la Cruz por nuestra causa, así también somos llamados para seguir su ejemplo en beneficio de los demás. La mejor manera de entrar en la Semana Santa con Jesús es hacerlo en compañía de aque-llos, con los que el Mesías se ha identificado: los más po-bres y los que más sufren; los humillados y los marginados; los que sufren el abuso de otros; aquellos que nunca utili-zan el poder de forzar su voluntad para hacer el bien. Si hemos de ser salvados y participar en la salvación que se nos ha dado libremente, tenemos que ir a donde la salva-ción se requiere - en nuestras calles y en nuestros hogares donde la violencia está haciendo estragos; en nuestra inti-midad y oscuridad de la vida donde la desesperación pare-ce predominar; donde los inocentes son maltratados o los necesitados han sido abandonados; dondequiera que exis-ta un malentendido, miedo o celos. Es necesario entender que debemos ir donde Cristo se entrega a sí mismo por nuestra salvación. ¿Estamos haciendo esto ahora mismo? Ojalá que así como entramos en este periodo especial de la Semana Santa, que podamos tener tiempo para reconocer cómo podemos participar más activamente en la obra sal-vadora de Dios a través de Jesucristo en nuestro mundo.

In this final Sunday, as we prepare to enter the sacred time of Holy Week, we look again at the significance of Christ in our lives. We recognize him as our Savior, but we look more closely in order to discover just what kind of Savior he is. We find that he has taken the form of a slave; he has been glorified with a name above all other names; he continues to suffer with us. This week, we are encouraged to examine the sacrifice of Christ for our salvation and how we can continue to live that out in our lives. We are a people saved through the humble actions of Christ, though he was really in the form of God he came in the form of a slave, emptying himself, being abandoned, and suffering for us so that we could be saved and shown a new way to live. It begs the question: why does God love us with such abandon? A consolation for us is that Jesus Christ became one of us in order to show us how we are to live. Unlike modern leaders, he himself was first willing to suffer and die to show the way of God. The passion account we read and meditate on to-day recounts the extent to which he willingly offered himself. His glory, and our salvation, was won at a great price. Do our lives to-day warrant or show that we deserve such a sacrifice? Do we con-tribute to the reign of God through our words and actions? We have a Savior who first offered himself for us and then continues to offer himself to us as an example to follow. As he was willing to empty himself of our sake, so we are told to empty ourselves for the sake of others. The best way to enter Holy Week with him is in the com-pany of those with whom he has identified himself: the poor and the broken; the humiliated and the marginalized; those who suffer the abuse of others; those who never use rank to force their will. If we are to be saved and participate in the salvation freely given to us we must go where salvation takes place – in our streets and in our homes where violence rages; in the dark corners of life where de-spair seems to hold sway; wherever the innocent are abused or the needy are neglected; wherever there is misunderstanding or fear or jealousy. We must go where Christ empties himself for our salva-tion. Are we doing this now? As we enter Holy Week, may we take time to recognize how we can more actively participate in the saving work of God in Jesus Christ in our world. -This reflection was taken from Preaching the New Lectionary by Dianne Bergant and
