Beginning this Sunday, May 17, the Archdiocese of Newark will reopen churches for prayer & allow Confessions!
Phase 1 (May 17): Churches will be opened for personal prayer
only. Individuals and families can come to church for quiet pray-er, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation may be celebrated if so-
cial distancing can be maintained and masks are worn.
Phase 2 (Date TBD): churches will be permitted to celebrate public weekday Masses and funerals with very specific restrictions, such as the
strict practice of social distancing, use of masks and limited number of people pre-sent.
Phase 3 (Date TBD): churches will be permitted to celebrate Sunday Mass publicly with the obligatory practice of social distancing, use of masks and limited number of people present. All other sacraments will resume according to the directives dur-
ing Phase 3.
We at Saint Catherine’s will update our parishioners on this as details and sched-ules are worked out.

SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER First Reading: Acts 1:12‑14 After Jesus ascended into heaven, the eleven apostles returned to Jerusalem and prayed in the upstairs room. With them were some women and Mary, the mother of Jesus. Second Reading: 1 Peter 4:13‑16 Christians are exhorted to rejoice in suffering because through suffering, they share in the life of Christ. Gospel: John 17:1‑11a This is a continuation of Jesus’ prayer at the Last Supper. He tells the Father that he has made his name known, that he has finished the work his Father has given him, and that he wishes now to share in the glory at his side.

Then disaster strikes, we don’t get the re-sult that was intended or an unforeseen problem aris-es. Many times we may respond negatively and ask, “Why me? I did everything right!” Here’s the thing – adversity humbles us and reminds us of our de-pendence on God and not on our own self-reliance. Rest assured, God has a better plan in store for you.
