Reflec ons with the Word of God from the priests of St. Cecilia Parish
August 30 – 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
Read Ma hew 16:21-27
Jesus’ mission is to suffer crucifixion, die and rise to life on the third day. Peter fails to see the joy in this and resists because he is holding on to the hope that the Messiah’s presence would end all suffering in an instant. Yes, suffering will end, not here but in the kingdom of heaven. For this to take place Jesus will take upon himself our sins and death, which is being forsaken and separat-ed from God. When Jesus offered his life on the cross, God’s power used his death to give death the eternal sentence of hell and give believers the gi s of forgiveness, incomparable joy, and life eternal. We too must take up our cross and follow Jesus, but the thought of suffering is repulsively frightening. To take up the cross we must allow Jesus to work on our fears.
For reflec on:
There are many kinds of crosses, such as crosses of grief, sorrow, wants, abuse, wounded love and more. Each person’s cross is tailor-made, custom built and pa erned to fit its bearer; no one else.
Suffering is difficult because we make the mistake of thinking what we want and do ma ers for happiness. What really ma ers is what we let Christ do to us. Listen to our Blessed Mother explain that God sent the angel to her, not to ask her to do something, but let something be done within her.
Today let Jesus Christ help you give your freedom to God and accept the form the cross takes. Trust that suffering is the pathway to peace and to the resistance simply exclaim; my Lord I give you everything of me; good and bad. Offer this sincerely every day, let go and let God, discover the secret of perfect freedom and eternal joy regardless of circumstances. Remain blessed in His love!

Agosto 30 – Domingo 22 del Tiempo Ordinario
Lee Mateo 16:21-27 La misión de Jesús fue sufrir la crucifixión, morir y resucitar al tercer día. Pedro no ve alegría en esto, se resiste y se aferra a la es-peranza que la presencia del Mesías acabe con el sufrimiento. Sí, el sufrimiento terminará, no aquí, sino en el reino de los cielos. Para que esto tenga lugar Jesús tomará sobre sí nuestros pecados y muerte, que nos separan de Dios. Cuando Jesús ofreció su vida en la cruz, el poder de Dios usó su muerte para dar a la muerte la eterna sentencia del infierno y dar a los creyentes los dones del perdón, la alegría incomparable y la vida eterna. Nosotros también debemos tomar nuestra cruz y seguir a Jesús, pero el pensa-miento del sufrimiento es aterrador. Para tomar la cruz debemos permi r que Jesús trabaje en nuestros temores.
Para la reflexión: Hay muchos pos de cruces, tales como cruces de dolor, tristeza, deseos, abuso, amor herido y más. La cruz está hecha a medida y moldeada para adaptarse a su portador; nadie más.
El sufrimiento es di cil porque cometemos el error de pensar lo que queremos y hacemos importa para la felicidad. Lo que real-mente importa es lo que dejamos que Cristo nos haga. Vean a nuestra San sima Madre a la que Dios le envió al ángel, no para pedirle que haga algo, sino que se haga algo dentro de ella.
Hoy que Jesucristo te ayude a dar tu libertad a Dios y a aceptar la forma que toma la cruz. Con a en que el sufrimiento es el ca-mino hacia la paz. Ofrezcan esto sinceramente todos los días, suéltenlo y déjenlo a Dios, descubran el secreto de la libertad perfec-ta y de la alegría eterna, independientemente de las circunstancias. ¡Que Dios les bendiga!

St. Cecilia – Teen Catholics in Action / Jóvenes Católicos En Acción
Welcome to St. Cecilia’s Youth Ministry Program! This program is for you, designed by you and run by you. We have created a Teen Advisory Group (TAG) that will meet once a month on Sunday evenings to keep the program growing and ac ve. You have shown ini a ve, leadership skills, and interest in Teen Catholics in Ac on/Jóvenes Católicos En Acción, and for that reason are invited to be on TAG. Please read through the expecta ons for this year. If you are able to commit to being a member of TAG, then fill out the commit-ment form and return it to Rosie Rosado or Andrea Hall before the September mee ng. If you are unable to commit to being a TAG member, that is fine. Please know that all youth ministry events are s ll available to you! These include retreats, ac vi es, service projects, and discussion nights. You are s ll a part of St. Cecilia’s youth ministry program, TCIA/JCEA. TAG is an extra involvement at a more commi ed level and will involve an extra effort on your part. Therefore, it is only fair to advise you of the expecta ons for this year and ask that you do your best to fulfill your commitment. Please know that this level of commitment will be a fine addi on to your college applica ons in the future and le ers of recommenda ons will be available when requested. I will not engage in underage drinking, in drug use, in deviant behavior (stealing, graffi , vandalism, etc.). My social media ac vity will also exhibit responsible and appropriate posts.
If I am unable to fulfill my commitment during the year, I will communicate this to the Adult Mentors and the TAG president. I understand that in this case, I will step down from my membership but will be invited to rejoin the following year if I am able to recommit.

Sacrament of Marriage The Pastoral Guidelines for Marriage Prepara-tion are that a minimum of 7 months be set aside for personal preparation for marriage. Couples should refrain from setting a firm date until after they have called the office to discuss marriage plans. Weddings are celebrated Saturdays at 2pm.
Quinceañeras Celebraciones son Sábados. Las quinceañeras tienen que haber recibido los sacramentos (por lo menos 1ra Comunión). Comuníquese con la ofi-cina para hacer una cita por lo menos 4 meses antes de la celebración. Para reservar la fecha de la Quinceañera la donación es de $350 y se debe traer el día de la cita.
