PASTOR’S CORNER *Since Father Connolly is away at the Diocesan Priest Convocation this week, our school principal, Lori Smith, has ‘taken over’ the traditional Pastor’s Corner letter.
Dear St. Cecilia Family,
Our year is well under way. In fact, in just a month and a half, we have already welcomed new teachers, implemented changes in our praise and worship music, ordered thirty new Chromebook laptops for our 7th grade, started Family Groups, and our 8th grade students are delving into their high school search.
Our middle school is seeing some big changes and improvements. We have welcomed two new middle school teachers and a new art teacher. These teachers are already having a direct impact on our students and are doing great jobs. Electives are new this year. On Mondays we are offering a choice of an art, music, drama, and computer coding elective to our middle school students. This is a great way to expand their learning and experiences within the arts. Our 8th grade class received Chromebook laptops thanks to our wonderful PTO, and we just added another new set for 7th grade. We are anxiously looking for ways to finance one more set to complete our middle school technology needs. Our 8th grade class trip has been voted on, and it is off to Washington D.C. for our outgoing class.
Our 8th graders are enjoying the visits with the Catholic high schools and are representing our school and their families well. Bishop Ready and Cristo Rey have invited our students to visit their campuses as a group, and St. Charles has set a date for our boys to visit individually. Our students have great choices in Catholic high schools with Bishop Ready, Cristo Rey, and St. Charles. We are helping our students make the right choice for next year. It’s just crazy to already be looking on to next year, but our students will be ready to conquer this new adventure.
The student council induction went beautifully this past week. We are so proud of our new school representatives and officers. We know they will do a great job this year being school leaders. A special thank-you goes out to Joe Reis, our new parish youth and young adult leader, who was our speaker on leadership. Our student council is incorporating many opportunities for service this year.
Our K-5 classes have also been very busy. For the first time in awhile, our 4th and 5th grades are changing classes in preparation for middle school. All students enjoyed COSI on Wheels when they visited our school. And all wore a brave face when the flu shot clinic arrived at our front doors. We have held school pictures and an eyesight clinic with The Ohio State University. All students are on a regular schedule and receiving the instruction they need to become loving, caring and intelligent students.
It’s crazy to think that our first quarter Interims were already published and ready for parent review. This year is moving along fast, but we are ready for the challenge!
God’s Blessings,Lori Smith

READINGS FOR OCTOBER 13: THE TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Reading I – 2 Kings 5:14-17 Reading II – 2 Timothy 2:8-13 Gospel – Luke 17:11-19
LIFE FOCUS QUESTIONS• Today’s psalm enjoins us to “sing to the Lord a new song.” If you were to choose one song that symbolizes your spiritual
journey at this point in your life, what would it be?• Speaking from prison, St. Paul tells Timothy, “The word of God is not chained.” How have you experienced the word of
God, alive and free, in your life? How do you bring this word to others?• In today’s Gospel, one of the ten lepers returns to “give thanks to God” for being healed. How do you give thanks to
God for blessings received?• How do you practice an “attitude of gratitude” in your daily life?
VOCATION VIEWS: THE TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIMEIf today you hear God’s voice, harden not your hearts. Listen for the voice of God. Are you being called to be a priest or religious?
