PRESENTACIÓN DEL SEÑOR JESÚS 2de Febrero de 2020
[ 2 ] SAINT CLARE of ASSISI PARISH

Fr. Grace
The Presentation of the Lord February 2, 2020
[ 3 ] SAINT CLARE of ASSISI PARISH
The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd, reminds of the good,
old days in the seminary when we had to wake up at 5 am and be ready for the
famous "Candle-mas" at 6 am, while it is still dark. It was a big sacrifice to make
in waking up that early. On the other hand, it was worth it given the importance
and significance of the celebration.
On this day, celebrating Jesus as the Light of the World, candles are blessed for
us to take back to our homes. The candle signifies that Christ is the light of our
homes, casting off the powers of darkness of sin and evil. Hence, we do not only become holy, but
also radiate that same light of Christ and make our sisters and brothers holy, too. This entails being
good examples in our thoughts, words and actions.
St. Sophronius, Bishop, expresses it so powerfully: "The true light has come, the light that enlightens
every man/woman who is born into this world. Let all of us, my brethren, be enlightened and made
radiant by this light. Let all of us share in its splendor, and so be filled with it that no one remains in
the darkness. Let us be shining ourselves as we go together to meet and to receive with the aged
Simeon, the light whose brilliance is eternal. Rejoicing with Simeon, let us sing a hymn of
thanksgiving to God, the Father of the light, who sent the true light to dispel the darkness and to give
us all a share in his splendor".
As we always begin the week with the thanksgiving sacrifice of the mass, we should also remember
to hold Christ close to us and take him wherever we go. And may all that do be for the glory of God
and the service of His people.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS. MAY JESUS ENLIGHTEN EVERY STEP YOU TAKE.
Fr. Grace

2020 Appeal
“Who is My Neighbor?” “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And, the second is : ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two
commandments.”
These words of Jesus remind us to love and support our neighbors in their time of need. Through the House of Charity – Bishop’s Annual Appeal, we strive to do that throughout the six counties of the Diocese of Camden.

The Presentation of the Lord
“…they took him up to Jerusa-lem to present him to the
Lord...” LUKE 2:22
How seriously do you take being a Catholic? Is “being Catholic”
something I just do when I attend Sunday Mass or attend
one of my parish functions? It’s easy to be Catholic then, it’s
harder to be Catholic when I am out in the world. Would some-
one recognize your Catholic Stewardship by the way you act,
dress and talk? How do you present yourself to the Lord and
to others?
Bring your Old Palms
to St. Clare Parish
The ancient tradition of the church is to take the palms distributed on Palm Sunday & burn them to create the ashes for Ash Wednesday. We invite our parishioners to bring their palms from home.
In the church at Swedesboro, please deposit them in a basket near the Ministry Sign-in lectern behind the last pew.
In church at Gibbstown, please deposit them in a basket near the
grand piano.
