Sacrament of Baptism: The Sacrament of Baptism should be celebrated as soon as possible after birth. Therefore parents should contact the parish office prior to the child’s birth. This will allow adequate time for the necessary preparation of the parents and the Godparents.
Sacrament of Reconciliation: On Wednesday from 6:15-7:00 PM or by appointment.
First Reconciliation and First Communion, Sacrament of Confirmation: Please contact the Coordinator of Religious Education (María Morales) for more information.
Sacrament of Marriage: Requires at least nine months of preparation before the Marriage. Contact the Pastor, through the parish office, to start the process.
Pastoral Care: Please contact the parish office if you are aware a parishioner is sick and desires to receive the Eucharist, Anointing of the Sick or a visit from the Pastor.
Parish Registration forms are available through the office.

Did you know?
Today’s Gospel reading gives us a picture of Saint
Joseph. Unfortunately, however, there’s not too much about
him that we know. In order for Jesus to fulfill prophecy Joseph
had to accept Jesus as his son. Because of Jewish law at the
time, when Joseph found out Mary was pregnant, he decided to
divorce her quietly; to save her the punishment she would
receive for being unmarried. He demonstrated a balance
between THE Law and the Law of Love.
The Gospel passage continues this plight of Joseph by
telling us that he learned in a dream that Mary’s child had been
conceived by the Holy Spirit, and that he was to be the foster-
father of the Christ. Whoa! This is some message, but Joseph,
through trust and faith in God, accepted his mission as the foster
-father of the Son of God and committed to caring for Mary and
this child. Talk about trust in God!!!
What’s the message for us? How about this message…
like Joseph, we need to trust in God, listen to Him and be
faithful. Although we may face problems, job insecurity,
tensions in the family and health concerns, let us try to be like
St. Joseph, trusting and faithful.

La lectura del Evangelio de hoy nos da un retrato de
san José. Desafortunadamente; sin embargo, no hay mucho que
sepamos acerca de él. Para Jesús cumplir la profecía José tuvo
que aceptar a Jesús como su hijo. Debido a la ley judía de ese
entonces, cuando José se enteró que María estaba embarazada,
él decidió divorciarla calladamente; para librarla de la pena que
ella recibiría por no estar casada. El demostró un balance entre
LA Ley y la Ley del Amor.
El pasaje del Evangelio continúa esta situación de José
diciéndonos que en un sueño él se enteró que el niño de María
había sido concebido por el Espíritu Santo, y de que el sería el
padre adoptivo de Cristo. ¡Ah! Que mensaje, pero José, a través
de la confianza y la fe en Dios, aceptó su misión como padre
adoptivo del Hijo de Dios y se comprometió a cuidar de María y
su niño. ¡Eso se llama tener confianza en Dios!
¿Cuál es el mensaje para nosotros? Que tal este
mensaje… como José, necesitamos confiar en Dios, escucharlo
a Él y ser fiel. A pesar de que encaremos problemas,
inseguridad con el trabajo, tensiones en la familia y
preocupaciones de salud, tratemos de ser como san José,
confiados y fieles.

THE CENTER FOR MARRIAGE, FAMILY AND LIFE will
be hosting a Respect Life Essay and Video Contest. This year’s theme is “If life were more respected.” The contest invites participants to engage the theme in dialogue with an issue related to abortion, end of life issues, disabilities, the death penalty, bioethics, or some other area of Respect Life Ministry. The contest is open to grades 7– 12 and college age. Students are encouraged to participate in the contest by developing the theme in a video and submitting on-line. The Blue Ridge Cursillo will hold the next men’s Cursillo Weekend, April 27-30, 2017 at Camp Alta Mons in Shawsville, VA. Weekends start on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm and run through Sunday afternoon to about 6:00 pm. Fr. Tom Collins will be the spiritual director. The weekend costs $195 dollars for 3 nights and 4 days; meals are included.

It's often said that you can't give what you don't already have. Catechists certainly want their students to learn to love the Mass and other liturgical prayers, and also to have a strong personal prayer life. As catechists, we need to do all we can to live a prayerful life first, so that we can share what we've discovered with the students we love.
At times, it can seem like there's a wide gulf between the Church's public prayer and our own private prayer. The former can seem formal and impersonal, while the latter can appear to be exactly the opposite. But in truth, the two should be mutually supportive and complementary.
Here are four observations about the relationship between the Church's liturgical prayer and our own personal prayer. Perhaps a catechist who interiorizes the connections between these two modes of prayer will be able to find ways to help young people come to see the same things. This can make our participation at Mass more fruitful, and can likewise enrich our personal prayer.
Liturgical Prayer Keeps Us on the Right TrackWe should pray to God in our own words: we should wonder and ponder and dream and puzzle over all the aspects of our faith. What is God like? Who am I? What is God's plan for me? Why do bad things happen? These questions are mysterious, and we'll never understand them perfectly in this life. But at the same time, while there is mystery, there is also truth, and unfortunately it is possible to develop false ideas about God and about our faith. One of the great things about liturgical prayer is that it can help keep us on the right track. That's because the Church's prayer is theologically very precise, and is based on the clear teachings of the Bible, of Sacred Tradition, and of the saints. The prayers we encounter in the liturgy continually remind us of the truths of our faith, and in this way the liturgy becomes a sturdy framework for genuine personal prayer.
Identifying teachings embedded in liturgical prayer can even be a good catechetical exercise. For example, Catechetical Sunday falls on the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time this year, and the Collect (or "opening prayer") on that day begins like this: "O God, who founded all the commands of your sacred Law upon love of you and of our neighbor. . . ." What truth does that teach? It reminds us that there is such a thing as God's law! There is a difference between good and evil, and God shows us how to discern it through his law. This prayer also reminds us of Jesus' teaching about the two greatest commandments, which are the foundation of the moral life.
Seeing this truth in the liturgical prayer might then influence my own personal prayer. Am I trying to love God with all my heart? Can I be doing more to love my neighbor? When we try to encourage young people to pray, we certainly want to encourage them to use their imagination in their personal prayer, to think, and to ponder. But we can also help them to see that the truths of the faith are an important part of the Church's liturgical prayer. (It will continue next week)…

Los catequistas quieren sin duda que sus estudiantes aprendan a amar la Misa y otras oraciones litúrgicas, y también que tengan una intensa vida de oración personal. Como catequistas, tenemos que hacer, en primer lugar, todo lo posible para vivir nosotros una vida de oración, de manera que podamos compartir lo que hemos descubierto con los estudiantes que amamos.

Estas preguntas son misteriosas, y nunca las comprenderemos perfectamente en esta vida. Pero, al mismo tiempo, aunque existe el misterio, también existe la verdad, y por desgracia es posible desarrollar ideas falsas sobre Dios y sobre nuestra fe. Una de las grandes cosas de la oración litúrgica es que puede ayudar a mantenernos en el camino correcto. Esto se debe a que la oración de la Iglesia es teológicamente muy precisa, y se basa en las claras enseñanzas de la Biblia, de la Tradición Sagrada y de los santos. Las oraciones que encontramos en la liturgia nos recuerdan continuamente las verdades de nuestra fe, y de esta manera la liturgia se convierte en un marco robusto para la genuina oración personal.
Identificar las enseñanzas impregnadas en la oración litúrgica puede ser incluso un buen ejercicio catequético. Por ejemplo, el Domingo Catequético cae este año el 25º domingo del tiempo ordinario, y la Colecta (u "oración inicial") de ese día comienza así: "¡Oh! Dios, que has puesto la plenitud de la ley en el amor a ti y al prójimo..." ¿Qué verdad nos enseña esto? ¡Nos recuerda que hay una cosa llamada la ley de Dios! Hay una diferencia entre el bien y el mal, y Dios nos muestra cómo discernirla a través de su ley. Esta oración también nos recuerda la enseñanza de Jesús sobre los dos mandamientos más grandes, que son el fundamento de la vida moral.
Ver esta verdad en la oración litúrgica podría entonces influir en mi propia oración personal. ¿Estoy procurando amar a Dios con todo mi corazón? ¿Puedo hacer más para amar a mi prójimo? Cuando tratamos de animar a los jóvenes a orar, ciertamente queremos animarlos a usar su imaginación en su oración personal, a pensar y a reflexionar. Pero también podemos ayudarlos a ver que las verdades de la fe son una parte importante de la oración litúrgica de la Iglesia.
