STEWARDSHIP

REFLECTION

The prophet Isaiah presented a

vision of the world where all peo-

ple are treated with justice, na-

ture is in harmony, and all peo-

ples worship the one true God.

That’s not what we see around

us, but the Messiah, the one

anointed with God’s spirit, will

bring it to pass. St. Paul wrote to

the Romans that such Old Testa-

ment passages were written for

their instruction and encourage-

ment, with a result that the

Church should experience har-

mony and unity in worship, as

well as the recognition that all

peoples – Jews and Gentiles –

are welcome in the Church.

St. Matthew tells us about the ministry of St. John the Baptist, who proclaimed, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at

hand.” He was the immediate forerunner of Jesus, the Messiah, who was about to establish the kingdom of God. The mes-

sage to repent means much more than a call to feel sorry for sin. The key element of repentance is not remorse but a

change of life, forsaking evil and amending one’s life. We also are challenged to repent and to put God’s kingdom at the

center of our lives as we evaluate our use of the time, talent, and treasure entrusted to us.

THANKSGIVING PROGRAM

The Religious Education students performed in a Thanksgiving Program on Sunday, November 21 in the St. Mi-chael the Archangel School gymnasium. The purpose of the program was to reflect upon the importance of Thanksgiving before we enter in to the Christmas spirit. Grades 1-7 participated either by singing a song, saying a prayer, reciting psalms of thanks and praise or reciting a poem. Admission to the program was to donate a non-perishable food item for the Streatorland Food Pantry.

As part of the Thanksgiving Program the 8th grade Confirmation classes taught by Mrs. Heather Leskanich and Mrs. Christine Spierling, dressed up like the homeless and lined the halls of the entrance to the gym. As an effort to bring awareness to the needs of the less fortunate and to show how much most of us truly have to be thankful for, the students read a “heartfelt thank you” of what someone in that situation would be thankful for...Again, things that most of us may take for granted. In addition to the canned food that was brought as “admission price” for the program the 8th grade class raised $128.69. This money will be donated to the Haiti Mission. All those who attended left inspired as well as the students who performed.

POPE BENEDICT XVI IS PRAYING FOR SICK AND LONELY IN DECEMBER—JOINT IN HIS INTENTIONS

The Pope's general prayer intention for December is:

“That our personal experience of suffering may be an occa-

sion for better understanding the situation of unease and

pain which is the lot of many people who are alone, sick or

aged, and stir us all to give them generous help.”

The Pope’s mission intention is: “That the peoples of the

earth may open their doors to Christ and to His Gospel of

peace, brotherhood and justice.”
