September 14, 2012 +Triumph of the Cross

My dear Brothers in Christ,

As Catholic men, we are called to a life of service. We are called to care for our families, serve our communities and serve our faith communities. I am excited to share with you that a great and wonderful opportunity exists for Catholic men to answer this call to serve by becoming a member of the Knights of Columbus.

This exemplary order of Catholic men was founded in 1882 by a parish priest who had the vision and foresight to conceive of an organization which would provide Catholic men the opportunity to live their Faith through charitable works, caring for their families, and defending the Catholic Faith. Today, the Knights of Columbus are 1.8 million members strong in 14 countries, providing a strong moral ex-ample in an age where culture promotes secularism over service to others. Last year, this organization of practical Catholic men donated more than $158 mil-lion and 70 million man-hours to charity, in addition to providing its members with the opportunity to share a fraternal brotherhood with men of similar values. Last year, in Illinois alone, the Knights do-nated $4,961,949.00 and 2.1 million man hours in their charitable efforts.

As a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, I have per-sonally witnessed the tremendous work that these men accomplish in this diocese. However, there is much work which needs to be done in the name of charity. I strongly encourage each man in this Dio-cese, who considers himself to be a practicing Catholic and is at least 18 years old, to prayerfully consider joining the ranks of this fine organization.

Members of the Knights of Columbus will be in par-ishes after Masses during weekends of October 6-7, 2012 with more information. Please take some time to visit with one of these men, so that you may join us in our mission to promote Charity, Unity, Frater-nity and Patriotism. I promise you the experience of a lifetime.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C. BISHOP OF PEORIA

Bishop Daniel Jenky has recently asked that all the par-

ishes in the Diocese of Peoria turn to our Blessed

Mother asking her intercession with Jesus to protect our

country, to guide our leaders, and to turn our hearts to

her Son. Here at St. Michael the Archangel Parish, will

recite this prayer after every Mass beginning on Satur-

day, September 8th – the day we celebrate the Birthday

of our Blessed Mother. We will continue for thirty days

and conclude on October 7th – the feast of Our Lady of

the Rosary.

Prayer of Consecration to the Mother of God: O Mary, Virgin most powerful and Mother of mercy, Queen of Heaven and Refuge of sinners, we consecrate our nation, our leaders, and ourselves to your Immaculate Heart.

We consecrate to thee our very being and our whole life: all that we have, all that we love, and all that we are. To thee we give our bodies, our hearts and our souls; to thee we give our homes, our families, and our country.

We desire that all that is in us and around us may belong to thee, and may share in the benefits of thy motherly benedic-tion. And that this act of consecration may be truly effica-cious and lasting, we renew this day at thy feet the promises we made to God on the day of our Baptism and our first Holy Communion.

We pledge ourselves to profess courageously and at all times the truths of our holy Faith, and to live as befits Catholics who are duly submissive to all the directions of the Pope and the Bishops in communion with him.

We pledge ourselves to keep the commandments of God and His Church, and in particular to keep holy the Lord's Day.

We likewise pledge ourselves to make the consoling prac-tices of the Christian religion, and above all, Holy Com-munion, an integral part of our lives, in so far as we shall be able so to do.

Finally, we promise thee, O glorious Mother of God and loving Mother of men, to devote ourselves whole-heartedly to the service of the Kingdom of God and as instruments of God’s Divine Providence. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

To those who have contributed, we are most grateful. If you have not yet made a gift to the ADA please consider doing so today.

TWENTY-FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME September 16, 2012

St. Michael the Archangel School is continuing the Academic and Catholic Legacy that has been in our great town of Streator. It is imperative that our parish, which is now the largest parish in our Diocese, continues to pro-vide an excellent school that offers the best possible learning environment that teaches our Catholic faith and provides high academic standards. This is not possible without all of your continued support and prayers. Please remember that our goal is to at least raise 100,000 dollars for next year and an overall pledged amount of 500,000for the next five years. Catholic Education is a value to our future Church. It is the responsibility of the parents and parishioners of St. Michael the Archangel Parish to continue to pass on our Catholic Faith so that we know that our future is set on the right course.

The money that has been pledged for the upcoming school year has helped us purchase additional Smartboards for the classrooms and 30 Kindle Fires for tablet technology, provide Wifi connection throughout the building, build our Spanish Program, enhance our Science Program by additional Lab equipment and materials, provide financial scholarships for our families, and to purchase additional equipment for our Fine Arts program. Our sister school, Marquette Academy, works with some of our students for advance placement classes. Currently, we have an 8th grade student Skyping in daily for Geometry instruction. This is only able to be done with the tech-nology that was purchased through the Friends of St. Michael!
