Thanks so much to the many parish households who have declared their support for the Ministries and great works of mercy, education and evangelization that is supported by the Bishop's Annual Appeal.
YOU can take a stand and be a participant in these works of our Church for the benefit of ourselves and others! YOU can help the Catholic "message" in eastern North Carolina be a message of compassion, outreach and long-term, steady social involvement.
Please, if you have not yet made a pledge to the Bishop's Annual Appeal, act now to be included in our great inter-parish effort to fund ministry in 2016.
If you have already given a gift, but are now able to contribute an additional amount, please pick up one the envelopes in church and increase your giving.
We will not only make our goal, we will exceed it! Every penny over the goal becomes available for the same effort on a parish basis. Do not hesitate to give, or increase your gift.
DECORATING OF THE CHURCH: Holy Saturday, March 26th at 9:00AM Many hands make light work! We may get some cleaning and polishing done, as well.

NORMS FOR FASTING AND ABSTINENCE
Good Friday, March 25, 2016, is a day of fasting and abstinence.
Fasting is to be observed by all 18 years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their 60th birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one’s needs, but together they
should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.
Abstinence is observed by all 14 years of age and older. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, Church law does not oblige.
When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the Parish Priest should be consulted.
All Catholics are encouraged to maintain a Holy Silence during Holy Saturday as well, even to maintaining the Good Friday disciplines as an act of devotion, in anticipation of our Great Feast, Easter
Please join us Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 6:00PM for Palm Sunday Vespers with wonderful food to follow at a
reception. Pray for the legacy and tradition of Catholicism in New Bern and Craven County!

Active adult Catholics who have never received the Sacrament of Confirmation are welcome to prepare for the
reception of the Sacrament when Bishop Burbidge visits at the end of May.
The preparation program is straightforward and rewarding. The date is fixed (Tuesday, May 24th at 6:30pm).
The requirements for regular communicants are minimal: weekly attendance at Mass, classes on the Sacrament of
Confirmation with prayer and reflection, and going to Confession before May 24th.
Please email DeLesa Conway -- [email protected] -- to register for this Easter time preparation program and
Pentecost celebration of the Sacrament.
We would love to have you!
Please keep this years RCIA Candidates in your prayers as they journey to Easter Vigil and full communion in the church.

Parents and Supporters of Saint Paul Catholic School,
You will be proud to learn that last weekend, March 4-6, our Parish School was the host for the EIC (Eastern Independent Conference) Basketball Tournament and it was a CLASSIC!
It will take a while to thank everyone involved in pulling out all the stops hosting the EIC Basketball Tournament. But thank you for those who jumped in and made it an enormous success. (I think enormous gets close to how gigantic a success it was).
Whether it was the program (32 pages), the opening ceremonies, (loud and proud), the games themselves, the mass, the dance, concessions, or the championship games on Sunday. Everyone was impressed with the professionalism and hospitality we provided the other 4 schools attending this weekend.
You all did Saint Paul proud this weekend, and I want to thank the crowd now since it will take a while to thank the individuals who made this weekend possible. Special mention should be made of Dan Doban, our Athletic Director and the Tournament Chief!

COMPASSION Loving God, you sent Jesus, who reveals your glory, to pay the price for our sins, so that we might share in eternal life. On the night he was betrayed, he remained obedient to your will and, humbling himself, was led to the Cross. Even in the midst of his
arrest, Jesus showed compassion by healing the servant. Show us compassion, O God, when we abandon you. Heal our suffering , which can lead us to deny your majesty. Grant courage to those who are weak and raise up the fallen. Strengthen our love for you so that our hearts and minds may remain focused on
Christ’s Paschal Mystery and forever delight in his triumph over death. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
Today’s Readings: Luke 1928-40; Isaiah 50:4-7; Psalm 22: 17-20, 23-24; Philippians 2:6-11; Luke 22:14-23:56. This Sunday begins the holiest week of our liturgical year. We gather to retell the story of Jesus’ Passion and Death to prepare for the celebration of the Resurrection. Holy Week is a a time to be intentional about prayer so that our hearts can be roused by God’s Word and moved to compassion. During this Lent, we have been asked to die to our sinful ways and turn back to God. Today’s scripture tells the whole story of Jesus’ Passion. We are Called to empty ourselves and totally give of ourselves for the other. Jesus didn’t due because of guilt. His compassion overflowed and his death brought us life. How have you emptied yourself so that others might have life? What do you still need to let go of so you can grow in compassion and share the joy of Christ’s Resurrection? Each time we celebrate the Eucharist, the love of God id poured out and shared with us. That love is shared to help us conform our hearts to Christ’s and therefore sanctify us. Take time to intentionally share His love with every encounter.
THIS WEEK AT HOME Monday, March 21—Isaiah 42:1-7; Psalm 27:1-3, 13-14; John 12:1-11. Does Mary’s anointing of Jesus’ feet help us to see Jesus as the Messiah who will redeem us? Reflect on how the symbol of oil is part of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders. Jesus is our Anointed One! Tuesday, March 22—Isaiah 49:1-6; Psalm 71:1-6, 15,17; John 13:21-33, 36-38. The story of Judas’ betrayal leads us to see that even our small sins are a turning away from Christ. Jesus, the Light to the Nations, is always seeking to heal and reconcile with us. Turn to Him in every temptation and need. Wednesday, March 23—Isaiah 50:4-9; Psalm 69:8-10, 21-22, 31-34; Matthew 26:14-25. The gospel tells us that Judas’ betrayal is necessary to fulfill God’s will. Jesus perseveres; he freely offers himself so that we might be saved. He is the chosen one of Israel, slaughtered like a lamb, triumphant over sin and death! Thursday, March 24—Exodus 12:1-8, 11-14; Psalm 116:12-13, 15-18; 1Coringhians 11:23-26; John 13:1-15. The evening Mass of the Lord’s gives us a mission to serve others and share the Good News. After Mass, spend time adoring Christ at the altar of repose! Friday, March 25—Isaiah 52:13-53; Psalm 31:2, 6, 12-17,25; Hebrews 4:14-16; 5:7-9; John 18:1-19;42. The liturgy asks us to ponder the mystery of Christ’s death and how our lives are connected to it. When Venerating the cross, linger a moment and rejoice that God’s goodness has saved us from death. Saturday, March 26—Genesis 1:1-2,2; Psalm 104:1-2, 5-6, 10-14. 24. 35; etc. Romans 6:3-11; Psalm 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-23; Luke 24:1-12. Tonight’s liturgy is rich with symbols to tell the story of our faith. This is the holiest night of our church year. We rejoice at Christ’s wondrous victory over death.

MOVIE OF THE MONTH
“A Long Way Off” is a modern day story of the Prodigal Son! Jake tries to escape the duties of the family business by leaving home for the big city! Far from the wise words of his father, he thinks he is finally able to live the life he has always wanted, trading traditional values to revel in every temptation money can buy! He soon comes face to face
with the consequences! He learns that sometimes losing everything helps one to realize what one left behind and that his mistakes can never outweigh a father’s forgiveness!!
Join us on Sunday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel.
