MOVIE OF THE MONTH

Inspired by Scripture and rooted in history, The Young Messiah, imagines a year in the boyhood of Jesus. When the

mystery of Jesus’ divinity begins to unfold in his early years, he turns to his parents for answers. But Mary and Joseph, in an

effort to protect their child, are afraid to reveal all they know. How do you explain the ways of the world to its Creator?

Follow the young Messiah as he and his family take the extraordinary journey from Egypt to Jerusalem--- where his

true iden ty and profound des ny are revealed.

Join us in the Chapel on Sunday, March 26, at 2:30 to enjoy this film.

PASTOR’S CORNER Sunday, March 19, 2017

Dear Friends at Saint Paul: We can all apply a li le lesson we learned as students when it comes to prayer: In order to describe something as a Reporter, one has to answer these ques ons: Who, What, When, Where, Why and How. These are the interroga ves of prayer as well... Don't let prayer be makeshi or accidental; make prayer purposeful and inten onal. Remember, “Ask, Seek, Knock!” Quotes are from the Bishop's website (usccb.org). Who? We start prayer with the “Sign of the Cross” which tells us “WHO”! In private prayer, it's me and God. In shared or communal prayer, it's us and God but we are not “self-deba ng” – prayer is not self-reflec on – but rather we turn our reflec on over to inspira on... we have to answer within our own minds and hearts, but we deliberately ask God to inspire in us those thoughts and feelings that are His will. Prayer is a complete focus on the Divine Person. We “raise our minds to God” in the classical expression of answering this first interroga ve of prayer. What? “Various forms of prayer are presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 2623-2649). These various forms include prayer of blessing or adora on, prayer of pe on, prayer of intercession, prayer of thanksgiving, and prayer of praise.” We may use medita on, Sacred Scripture and organized devo ons to help us pray. When? Set mes for prayer are a big help. The momentary, emergency prayer may be essen al for the moment, but it will not help us build habits of prayer on which we can rely. Prayer, like most human endeavors, requires exercise and habit for it to be successful. You may feel God doesn't answer or you may realize humbly that you haven't learned to be good at hearing his answer in prayer. Prac ce prayer at set mes. Where? Set up a “chapel” or come to Church. (Saint Paul is open for prayer from 7 am to 7 pm). A chapel may be a par cular easy chair and a cross, or a holy picture, a place where you leave the Bible, or a favorite window... Have a place for prayer! Why? We feel stress, loss, contri on. We desire to express gra tude, wonder, well-being. We promise to pray for people. We have unanswered ques ons; we have unmet needs; we struggle with the pain of life. We feel sudden escape, long-sought release, miraculous healing. The most rooted reason we pray: we are not fully human without it! How? As the Catechism states: "Medita on is above all a quest. The mind seeks to understand the why and how of the Chris an life, in order to adhere and respond to what the Lord is asking... By medita ng on the Gospels, holy icons, liturgical texts, spiritual wri ngs, or "the great book of crea on," we come to make our own that which is God's.... To the extent that we are humble and faithful, we discover in medita on the movements that s r the heart and we are able to discern them. It is a ques on of ac ng truthfully in order to come into the light: "Lord, what do you want me to do?" (CCC 2705-2706).” “Spiritual reading of Sacred Scripture, especially the Gospels, is an important form of medita on. This spiritual reading is tradi onally called lec o divina or divine reading. Lec o divina is prayer over the Scriptures.” “Popular devo ons are expressions of love and fidelity that arise from the intersec on of one's own faith, culture and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As Saint John Paul II said in 2001: Devo ons promote the faith of the people. Join with the Church as she expresses her praise and devo on to God through many popular devo onal prac ces.” Remember, the best form of prayer is the Sacred Liturgy, the Holy Mass. Chris ans can’t be “chris ans in a private church.” If we follow Christ; we are called together to be the Body of Christ! The Holy Mass is the highest form of prayer because the whole Body of Christ – head and members – are par cipa ng together to worship God! The Holy Mass includes all the various kinds of prayer and answers all the right ques ons! Remember, “Ask, Seek, Knock!” Peace,

Today’s Readings - Exodus 17:3-7; Psalm 95:1-9; Romans 5: 1-8; John 4:5-42.. The Samaritan woman is approached

by Jesus, and responds as expected. She has med her trip to the well to avoid confronta on. This stranger makes it

all so confusing! This exchange is not only about Jesus being the Living Water, it is also about accep ng the teachings

of Jesus as truth, and finding our spiritual thirst quenched by him. This exchange is about

Being willing to accept the truth of Jesus’ messiahship and the life of the Resurrected One in our midst today. Where is

your thirst quenched? Does your search for the promised one con nue, or are you able to accept Christ in your midst

at home, at work, in the marketplace, and at rest, as well as in church? How much confronta on is required before we

recognize the Living Water in our lives? Jesus reminds us that we are never isolated from the truth, nor are we alone

in receiving the fruits of an individual’s labor. In today’s gospel, what begins as two people mee ng at a well becomes

a profession of faith, by disciples and townspeople that this is truly the Savior of the world.

THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 19, 2017 LIVING WATER

OUR HEARTS ARE READY God our Father and Creator, of Abraham and Jacob, and all of our ancestors of faith; bless us in our daily lives of work and prayer, as we find you in Word and

bread and water. Let not our hearts harden when we are confronted with Truth, nor when we are

lost in confusion or despair; for we know you are with us, as you were with Moses and the people of Israel, and as you were with the Samaritan woman.

May our hearts be open to accept your Word, and our spirits

be ready to proclaim your Truth. May our work reflect your grace and the fruits of our work be shared with all.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

This Week at Home Monday, March 20—2 Samuel 7:4-16; Psalm 89:2-5, 27-29;Romans 4:13-22; Ma hew 1:16-24. St. Joseph always respond-

ed to the voice of the Lord with a resounding “yes”. He provides an example that is worth contempla ng and imita ng. Jo-

seph is a model of reconcilia on as he took Mary into his home, knowing that her child was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

Embody his faithfulness to Mary by making reconcilia on a staple in your life.

Tuesday, March 21—Daniel 3:25-43; Psalm 25:4-9; Ma hew 18:21-35. The readings today call us to prac ce mercy and

forgiveness. We are to work toward reconcilia on even when others do not ask. The opportuni es to forgive are endless—

seven mes seven mul plied repeatedly. Take every opportunity to forgive as you have been forgiven.

Wednesday, March 22—Deuteronomy 4:5-9; Psalm 147:12-20; Ma hew 5:17-19. We are challenged to remain faithful to

the commandments and the Kingdom of Heaven will be your reward. Chris ans should be sure to read both the New and

Old Testaments. This week take me to read and Old Testament passage for each day of reflec on.

Thursday, March 23—Jeremiah 7:23-28; Psalm 95:1-9; Luke 11:14-23. Today’s psalm refrain calls us to remain faithful.

Our fidelity needs to be not only in what we do, but at the core of our being, in our hearts. Let us examine our conscience to

make a be er a empt at the conversion of our hearts to Christ.

Friday, March 24—Hosea 14:2-10’ Psalm 81:6-9, 11-17; Mark 12:28-34. Each Friday is a reminder of Good Friday, and the Lenten prac ce of walking the Sta ons of the Cross can be part of that. We walk with him, carrying his Cross, mourn with the women of Jerusalem, with Veronica, and with Simon. We stand as witness to his saving Death. Saturday, March 25—Isaiah 7:10-14, 8:10; Psalm 40:7-11; Hebrews 10:4-10; Luke 1:26-38. The joy of Mary’s acceptance

when Gabriel announced to her that she would be the mother of the Savior of the world is our joy as well. It is also our call

to work with God so that all we do may be according to His Word.

God says, from his throne, to ask for it boldly!! Ask and receive! Join us in the Chapel each Sunday at 10:30 as we pray the Chaplet and ask God for needed blessings for all.
