Are you someone or do you know someone who…

Has expressed interest in becoming a Catholic?

Has a child over 7 who has not been Baptized?

Was Baptized Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist?

Is a Baptized Catholic but would like to return to the Church after a long time away?

St. Therese Parish community offers an oppor-tunity to come together in a small group to learn about our beliefs, and explore our journey of faith to God. Sessions focus on our Christian roots re-vealed in the Bible and the teachings and experi-ence of the Church. For those who choose, we also prepare individuals to receive the Sacra-ments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. There are separate sessions for children or youth. You are welcome to participate in this process with your questions, your insights, and your faith story in a warm ac-cepting setting.

For information, please contact Deacon Greg McNabb ([email protected] or 206-720-7270) or Tom Hesselbrock ([email protected] or 206-817-0084)

The Bishops' Committee on Migration sets broad poli-cies and direction for the Church's work in the area of migration. The Committee oversees and provides guid-ance to Migration and Refugee Services, which is com-prised of five offices, including the Office of the Execu-tive Director, the Office of Management and Administra-tion and several policy and program offices: It is the view of the Church that protecting family values should not depend on a family’s nationality or immigration sta-tus and through its Justice for Immigrants Campaign USCCB promotes humane and compassionate immi-gration reform that preserves the family unit as the cor-nerstone of the immigration system.

"At its core, asylum is an instrument to preserve the right to life. The Attorney General's recent decision elicits deep concern because it potentially strips asylum from many women who lack adequate pro-tection. These vulnerable women will now face re-turn to the extreme dangers of domestic violence in their home country. This decision negates decades of precedents that have provided protection to women fleeing domestic violence. Unless over-turned, the decision will erode the capacity of asy-lum to save lives, particularly in cases that involve asylum seekers who are persecuted by private ac-tors. We urge courts and policy makers to respect and enhance, not erode, the potential of our asylum system to preserve and protect the right to life." “Additionally, I join Bishop Joe Vásquez, Chairman of USCCB's Committee on Migration, in condemn-ing the continued use of family separation at the U.S./Mexico border as an implementation of the Administration's zero tolerance policy. Our govern-ment has the discretion in our laws to ensure that young children are not separated from their parents and exposed to irreparable harm and trauma. Families are the foundational element of our socie-ty and they must be able to stay together. While protecting our borders is important, we can and must do better as a government, and as a society, to find other ways to ensure that safety. Separating babies from their mothers is not the answer and is immoral." U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, USCCB, Spring 2018 General Assembly, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Galveston-Houston, Bishop Joe Vásquez, Committee on Migration, U.S./Mexico border

Rapid Response Network

In response to heightened enforcement activities against documented and undocumented immigrants, the enactment of travel bans aimed at visa holders from Muslim majority countries, the harsh treatment of refu-gee seekers at the border, the end of Temporary Protected Status for thousands of at-risk people, the un-certainty of DACA recipients, and the growth of fear and uncertainty among many members of refugee and immigrant communities. the Church Council of Greater Seattle suggested faith communities come together in their neighborhoods to provide support, understanding, encouragement, and friendship for each other. This is the basis for the Central/SE Seattle Rapid Response Network.

Members from Christian, Jewish, and Muslim faith communities have been meeting to lay the foundation for this network, based on building relationships of trust, understanding, and community, so that when a crisis occurs, we can turn to each other for help!

The key is to build relationships! People of Faith in our City, should get to know each other, by building trust, friendships, celebrating together and of course – finding a chance to break bread together!

The First Gathering of the Central/SE Seattle Rapid Response Network:

WHAT: Free Dinner Meeting- (dinner provided)

WHEN: Tuesday, June 26th

, 5:30pm

WHERE: Washington State Labor Council - 321 16th

Ave S., Seattle

The Immigration and Refugee Committee of St. Therese invite you to attend this important meeting, as a

precursor to our parish potentially joining the network. This is an important opportunity to meet your neigh-

bors in faith and learn more about the network prior to making the decision to participate! For more infor-

mation contact parishioner John Lewis, at [email protected] or 206-384-3976.

The 2018 Annual Catholic Appeal is now underway in our parish! You should have received a letter from

Fr. Maurice asking for your support of the Appeal. Our Parish goal this year is $45,292 and any funds re-

ceived over that amount will be returned to the Parish to be used for parish projects. It’s not just about the

money we raise for more than 60 ministries and services, but more importantly, it’s about all of us partici-

pating to help support the mission of the Church in Western Washington. Thank you for your support!
