The Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

“For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister

and mother.” The readings today tell us about the expanded family of the Church, the community that Je-sus came to be found.

In the First Reading from the Book of Genesis, Adam and Eve disobeyed God. Though they committed the original sin, God still loved them. He still loved the family He created. He placed the enmity between the serpent (Satan) and the woman who is Mary. Mary was the new Eve, the Immaculation Concep-tion. Like Adam and Eve, we can easily fall into sin. How-ever, Mary was preserved from original sin and remained sinless throughout her earthly life. By God’s will, Mary became

the Mother of God. She helps us gain our salvation. She shows us how to be a follower of Je-sus. She is a perfect role model for all of us. Everything Jesus has, He has given to His Church. That also includes His mother. We are the members of the family which He formed: the Church. On March 3rd this year, Pope Francis established a uni-versal feast day for the Blessed Virgin Mary. The “Mother of the Church” is to be celebrated on the Monday after Pentecost every year by all churches throughout the world. In the last verse of today’s Gospel, Jesus reaffirms to each of us who His mother and brothers are: “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.”

Jesus tells us about the ex-panded family of the Church, the

community that He came to be found. He reminds us that who-ever follows the will of God is a friend of God and a member of His family. Mary followed the will of God when she said “Yes” and she welcomed God into here life. She introduced God to the others. Right before Jesus died, He gave His mother to the fam-ily of His Church by entrusting May to the beloved disciple John. This was an amazing grace, a wonderful gift for each of us.

Through baptism, we are all in-vited into the very “family” of God. When we choose to be obedient to the will of God, we enter into the eternal relation-ship with God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We ac-tually have a wonderful family of faith, made up of brothers and sisters, who love God and love one another.

BLESSED VIRGIN MARY PAGE 3

Our Parish Community wishes to extend our sympathy and prayers to the family of An-gelina Juarez and all those who have died this week, may their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Westminster.

Cám ơn sự ủng hộ của anh chị em cho Chợ Nhỏ qua việc chia sẻ quả ngon trái ngọt với giáo xứ. Tuần này, Chợ Nhỏ đưa về cho Giáo Xứ và Đức Mẹ số tiền $2954.00
