Getting Around UK and Lexington in a Nutshell

Campus Buses and Shuttles

• All buses on campus operate free of charge

• Campus buses serve campus core, Mon. – Fri., 7 a.m. – 5 a.m. when classes are in official session

• Stadium Route provides free transportation from campus periphery, every 5-10 minutes, Mon. – Fri., 7 a.m. – 6:15 p.m.

Late Night Transportation

Campus Yellow Night Route

Operates Monday - Friday between 6 p.m. and midnight

On-Demand Service (859) 221- RIDE (7433)

Mon. - Fri.  midnight - 5 a.m.Sunday             7 p.m. - midnight

Calls must be received at least 30 minutes prior to the end of service. Limited to campus.

Bicycles at UKUK bike permits are encouraged; bike permits are

free and available online. No need to renew – valid for the lifetime you own the bike

More Bike Tips- Bicycles on campus must obey the rules of the road- Watch for “Shared Use” symbols- All Lextran and most campus buses are equipped with bicycle racks

car-free commitment

Alternative Transportation

PTS Car Sharing

• Short-term, low-cost car rental to anyone age 18 and older, just $8-$10 per hour

• Choose from a variety of SmartWay-certified green vehicles, found in reserved spaces in high traffic areas of campus near campus bus stops

PTS Ride Home Express• Charter buses offering alternative travel

option for students visiting a variety of destinations during academic breaks.

• Cities include Atlanta, Chicago and Cleveland

• Fares range from $55-$155 round-trip

Additional Services

• Free holiday shopping shuttle

• Free shuttles to Blue Grass Airport– Thanksgiving– Winter break– Spring break

• Motorist assistance for permit holders

Campus Vehicle Parking Basics

- Students should familiarize themselves with the campus parking map before the first day of classes

- Allow plenty of time to get to campus, especially during peak class times (Monday through Thursday mornings)

- Keep a campus parking map handy- Park only between two solid white lines- Save PTS phone number in your cell

Purchasing a Vehicle Parking Permit• Permit sales begin over the summer; dates vary

based on permit type• Most student permits are $272; evening

permits are $136• Apply for parking permit at www.uky.edu/pts,

by mail or in person at our offices• Before applying, residential students must have

their housing assignment; commuter students must have registered for classes

• If first choice of permit is sold out, apply for student permit lottery

• Depending on area, semester-only permits may be available

Parking Permit OptionsResidential Permits (R Permits)- First-come, first-serve- Most R areas require an R permit 24/7- Sales begin June 18

Commuter Students- K permit- Also open to residential students- Commonwealth Stadium area - Sales being July 1

Short-term Parking Options- Parking meters - Hourly paid parking in W.T. Young Library Visitor Lot, Sports

Center Garage (PS #7) and South Limestone Garage (PS #5)

Evening Parking OptionsParking Structures- Any valid student permit may enter most parking garages after

3:30 p.m.

Campus Lots- Most areas require a permit until 7:30 p.m., but always check the

signs - K or R permits are valid in most Employee (E) and

Commuter (C) lots from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. - No permit required in E or C after 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise

Evening Permits- Half the cost of regular student permits- Valid after 3:30 p.m. in most E and C lots

Disabled Accessible Permits

Short Term (Up to Two Weeks)- Can be issued over the counter at PTS

Extended/Permanent- Additional paperwork required- Application can be found on PTS website

UK disabled accessible permit required to park on campus

Football Game Day Parking

- Vehicles should be moved from K areas and Sports Center Lots by 7 a.m. on game days

- All vehicles must be relocated from the Stadium Green Lot before 10:00 p.m. the night before home football games

- No parking on University Dr. on days of home football games

- Students may move their vehicles to most E lots anytime after 3:30 p.m. on Friday; do not move to an R lot

- Vehicle Relocation Map available online

- University Drive & Sports Center Garages are closed on game days

- Cars must be moved back to Commonwealth Stadium before 5 a.m. Monday

Citations and Enforcement

• Designed to protect spaces for permit holders

• One citation per year excused if you have permit for area and contact PTS within 10 days

• Most citations/impoundments may be appealed online

• Pay tickets promptly to prevent holds on student account or escalation of enforcement

• Pay attention to email reminders from PTS
