Vol. XI No VIX Serving the Community Since 1903 September, 2016 Greetings my fellow Elks! Summer is start- ing to wind down and we are starting to ramp up our efforts to finish the calendar year off strong. We have a lot of events coming up and hope to see a lot of participation. Some of those events include our annual Pig Roast, Crab Feast, Trunk or Treat, Veterans Day service, Thanksgiving Leftover Dinner, Memorial Service, Childrens and Adult Christmas party and our Christmas Food Bas- ket distribution. Fredericksburg Elks Lodge 875 has always been very successful at eve- rything we do and the members of this great Lodge and the community we serve are always very grateful for the tireless efforts we put forth in making these events suc- cessful. We are always looking for willing volunteers to help pull these events off, so please consider jumping in and helping out where you can. I attended the semi-annual District Deputy Clinic along with the Leading Knight Tim Henderson, Loyal Knight Ed Blesi, Trustee Chair Linda Pickering, Esquire Betty Gallahan and Past District Deputy, Past Exalted Ruler and current State Drug Awareness Chairman, Pete Decatur. Once again, I was humbled and hon- ored to be the Exalted Ruler of the Fredericksburg Elks Lodge 875 as we were presented with a plaque for contributing the most per-capita to the Elks National Foundation. With your generosity along with fund raisers conducted throughout the last Elk year, we contributed an average of $7.62 per person which equates to $2.97 over the Grand Exalted Rulers goal of $4.65 per member. Once again this year we are on track to ex- ceed our goal. Pete Decatur has been serving as the State Drug Awareness Chairman for about 14 years and is looking to step down in Octo- ber at the completion of the State Convention. He is still look- ing for a motivated and highly energetic person to take over as the State Chairman for this critical program. The influence you can have on both adults and children goes well beyond the Fred- ericksburg area and as far reaching as Washington, DC. If you have an interest in taking this program over, please see Pete Decatur for more information. I am in the infancy stages of planning a State of the Freder- icksburg Elksor Town Halltype meeting for the October time frame. This will be an informal meeting where we will brief any interested members on the state of membership, financials, various programs, etc. and to address any questions from the members. Stay tuned for a date for that meeting. Continued on page 2 UPCOMING FOR SeptemberFri. Sept 2-Dinner & Queen of Hearts, 6pm Wed. Sept 7-Dinner & Happy Hour, 5pm Fri. We have really been starting to fill the lounge on Friday evenings and I greatly appreciate everyone who has stepped up to the plate and volunteered to cook the meal. I have every in-tention of continuing to have volunteers prepare the Friday evening meals. With volunteers preparing the meals, we have some unique dishes that taste delicious and we probably would not have on our standard menu. If you have a desire to step into the kitchen for a night, please let me know and I will add you to the schedule. If you need help, let me know and we will look for other people to provide a helping hand.

That’s all for this month. Until next month, take care of yourself and take care of your fellow Elks! Fraternally Yours, Tim Mead Exalted Ruler

Members,

Last month at our regular scheduled meeting on 22

August 2016, we voted on five new candidates. On 7 Septem-

ber 2016 at 7:00 P.M., they will attend indoctrination and

then be initiated at the regular scheduled meeting on 12 Sep-

tember 2016 at 7:00 P.M. It would be great to see our mem-

bers at these events to welcome the new members to the Elks

family and our Lodge. We also have four additional candi-

dates working through the investigative process.

Our delinquents are at 10% of our membership. The

list is included in this News Bulletin. If you are on this list, please consider paying your dues. If you

need assistance paying your dues, please contact me immediately. I will be mailing notices next month

along with an invoice and envelope to facilitate members paying dues.

We have four (4) Amendment Ratifications to the Constitution that must be read and voted on at

the regular scheduled meeting 12 September 2016. These Amendments are posted on the Lodge Bulletin

Board and also included in this News Bulletin.

The Virginia Elks Association Fall Convention will be held in Virginia Beach on 13, 14, 15, and 16

October 2016. Please see me if you need assistance with the Convention Registration Form, the Annual

Golf Outing Application, or hotel reservations at a reduced rate.

Do a friend a favor and ask them to join the ELKS. As always, it is indeed a pleasure and an hon-

or to be your Lodge Secretary. Thank You!

Fraternally,

Diane M. Blesi

Amendment Ratifications to the Constitution

Our Lodge received a memorandum from the Grand Lodge reference (4) amendment ratifications

to the constitution. These are constitutional resolutions which were adopted at the 152nd Grand

Lodge session in Houston, TX on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. As per statutes, these resolutions must be

ratified by the membership of the local lodges. The resolutions are:

2016-02 – To eliminate any responsibility for the Elks National Home given its recent sale.

2016-05 – To clarify that lodge trusts and other related legal entities are subject to the applica-

ble provisions of section 16.030 of the laws of the order.

2016-07 – To provide that local lodges with membership of 99 or less only require seven (7)

members to constitute a quorum.

2016-09 – To clarify that the elected Trustees of a lodge shall be not less than three (3) nor more

than five (5).

These resolutions will be voted on at the Lodge meeting scheduled for 12 September 2016.

A copy of the memorandum from the Grand Lodge is posted on the Secretary’s bulletin board.

EYES ON THIS ELK MEMBER

Have you seen this Elk member around the lodge? She is Leslie Siedsma and has

been a member of our lodge for 5 years. She has two children – Christine and Michael. You might know Christine, as she is the wife of PER Bill Frostick. Michael resides in Florida.

Leslie raised her children on her own and is very proud of the adults they have become. She

also has two step grandsons and two step great grandchildren, Bayleigh and Landon.

Leslie was born in Utica, New York where she lived for most of her life. She spent four years in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and then returned to New York. She has lived in Falmouth

for seven years.

Leslie retired after working for Verizon for 27 years. Before retiring completely in 2004, she also worked at two nursing homes; worked at a start-up internet company, and was office

manager at a chiropractor.

At the Elks Lodge she volunteers her time for making the Christmas baskets, drug trailer, ticket sales and Bingo. She also volunteers in the kitchen cooking with her daughter, Christine, for various

events. Wherever there is a need for help, you will find

Leslie.

Leslie has recently volunteered to work the polls on the up-coming Presidential election. She loves dancing and is a

member of the Battlefield Boogie Club which consists of shag and line dancing. She takes Seniorcize classes at the Rowser

Center. Leslie has a container garden of peppers, tomatoes, herbs, floweing plants, and other items. Gardening is one of

Leslie’s favorite things to do.

She has a love for her two cats, Morris and Molly. Morris &

Molly are brother and sister and they are 8 years old. Leslie has had them from birth. Needless to say, Leslie spoils and

loves them.

The next time you see Leslie at the lodge, introduce yourself and thank her for her hard

work and generosity of her time.

Trunk or Treat

This year, Fredericksburg Elks Lodge will be conducting

its first Trunk or Treat event at the Lodge on Halloween.

This event will be opened to the public and offer parents

an opportunity to bring their children to a safe environ-

ment as an alternative to the normal door to door trick or

treating. We are presently looking for a church or school

to partner up on this event. We are also looking for people

willing to decorate their trunks and pass out candy to the

children. We will also have the Drug Awareness Trailer on

full display. A sign-up sheet will be located in the lounge

or you can contact me directly at [email protected]

to participate in this great event.

Lodge 875 is in this year’s

Fredericksburg Annual Christmas Parade!

Our lodge has already registered to participate in the Fredericksburg Annual Christmas

Parade! This year’s theme is “The Sights and Sounds of Christmas”. This is will be a

highly visible event for our Lodge showing our willingness to support our community.

We have entered a truck and trailer that will be decorated in the parade theme. Mem-

bers riding in the truck and the trailer are a planned part of our entry. A large Banner

will precede our entry containing the Elks logo and our Lodge Number. Members are

needed to both decorate the Truck and Trailer and to be in the parade as riders! Please

contact Bob Bennett (540-455-7599) to volunteer with the decorations and/or to be a rid-

er in this fun and exciting activity. All Riders will be asked to wear Christmas themed

attire. Our volunteers meeting will convene in October to talk details and identify tasks

and due dates prior to the mandatory Fredericksburg Parade Committee’s Meeting for

all parade entry representatives in November.

Did You Know? In October, 1918, after WWI, Elks built a 700-bed Reconstruction Hos-pital on Parker Hill in Boston and gave it to the federal government. This hospital was the forerunner of the VA Medical Centers that exist to-day.

Prime Rib Dinner On The First Wednesday of Every Month Prime Rib Will Be Featured as One of the Three Dinner Choices and will include a Vegetable,

Starch, and a Roll for $16.00. Dinner is Served from 5pm to 7:45.
