FROM TRAGEDY AND SORROW COMES GENEROSITY AND SERVICEAs Carol’s Kitchen embarks on its third decade of providing free hot meals for the less fortunate, we pause to reflect on the purpose for our organization. In 1998 after a tragic accident took the life of their daughter Carol Ragan, her parents Jim and Arlene came through those dark days by resolving to always remember Carol’s thoughtfulness and kindness for those in need. They started Carol’s Kitchen as on ongoing tribute to their daughter’s caring and helpful nature. That first simple meal for 34 guests has grown into our serving free hot meals 6 times a week from 3 different locations, currently serving around 3000 meals a month. This past year we have taken some enormous steps forward to enhance and expand on our ability to help even more guests. We’ve participated in many more community events and activities and had many groups and organizations partner with us to let the public know of our efforts and our continuing need for their support. We’ve increased our direct mail efforts, updated and maintained our website and created a quarterly newsletter highlighting our accomplishments and making more people aware of who we are, what we do and how much we rely on their help.We put on a very successful Bowling Tournament, Comedy Night/Sponsor Recognition fundraising dinner, Wine Tasting Event and had an entry in both the Cherry Festival and Stagecoach Days parades. Many groups and organizations provided monetary donations, helped raise funds with their own events, volunteered to assist with food and toy drives or helped serve at our kitchens. We were also able to move into a larger 2200 square foot warehouse in Beaumont to have room to store more of the needed food and supplies for our kitchens. And of course, all of this would not be possible without the passion and dedication of our 130volunteers, 2 staff members and the Board of Directors. We held an exciting and fun filled volunteer appreciation lunch as well as a lunch for our three long term Board members who stepped off the Board at the end of their terms. We will miss the contributions and experience of Marty Bauer, President – Char Taylor Lampe, Corporate Treasurer – Rich Lampe, Corporate Secretary. As we start 2020 we are poised for another great year with new officers in place, a dynamic strategic plan and a fully functioning sustainability program. We will not only strive to continue, but aspire to increase feeding even more guests who visit our kitchens as we look to expand to other locations. Our guests, volunteers, staff and Board of Directors want to say thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to Carol’s Kitchen with their help and generosity.

Best Regards,

Vince Conway, President
