Unpacking:Where to Begin?

Each Leveled Bookroom order is delivered on pallets. The levels, the number of pallets, and the number of boxes you receive will depend on which Leveled Bookroom option you have ordered.

Option 1: grades k–6Contains 51 boxes on 3 pallets:

• 2 Open Me First!!!! boxes (This Setup Guide, Teacher Resources)• 12 boxes (Levels A-L books) • 9 boxes (Levels M-Q books) • 24 boxes (Levels R-Z books) • 4 boxes (Next Step Guided Reading Assessment: K-2 and 3-6)

Option 2: grades k–3Contains 24 boxes on 2 pallets:

• 1 Open Me First!!!! box (This Setup Guide, Teacher Resources)• 12 boxes (Levels A-L books) • 9 boxes (Levels M-Q books)• 2 boxes (Next Step Guided Reading Assessment: K-2 and 3-6)

Option 3: grades 4–6Contains 36 boxes on 2 pallets:

ORganize THe BOxeS

Time to Unpack!If you ordered bookcases, unpack them first. Look for the long, large cartons.

Each sturdy bookcase carton contains

• Parts you need to use to assemble the bookcases

• Easy-to-understand instructions

Arrange your boxes first to make unpacking and organizing your books much easier. Here’s how:

For k-6 and k-3 Leveled Bookrooms• Group and stack your boxes for

easy unpacking.

• First, locate your boxes for Levels A–E.

• Place the Level A box on the floor or on a table.

• Then stack the Level B on top of the Level A box. Continue in sequence.

• This first stack will end with Level E box at the top of the stack.

• Then build another stack with Levels F–J. Continue in the same way, placing the lowest level on the bottom of the stack.

For the 4-6 Leveled Bookroom• Find your boxes for Levels M–P.

• First, stack the Level M box on the floor or on a table.

• Then stack the Level N boxes on top of the Level M box. Continue in sequence.

• Your first stack will end with a Level P box at the top of the stack.

• Build another stack starting with Level R boxes. Continue in the same way, placing the lowest level on the bottom of the stack.

Unpack the box/boxes marked “Open Me First!!!!”The K–6 Leveled Bookroom has 2 Open Me First!!!! boxes. The K–3 Leveled Bookroom has 1 Open Me First!!!! box and the 4–6 Leveled Bookroom has 1 Open Me First!!!! box.

Inside each Open Me First!!!! box, you’ll find this colorful, sturdy Resource Kit.

Unpack the Box for Next Step Guided Reading AssessmentWhen you see the brown box/boxes, you know your Next Step Guided Reading Assessment has arrived. The K–6 Leveled Bookroom has 4 boxes, K–3 Leveled Bookroom has 2 boxes, and 4–6 Leveled Bookroom has 2 boxes.

Open the shipper to find the sturdy Next Step Guided Reading Assessment storage box.

Your complete box for each guided reading level will contain• 1 Teaching Card for each title in a Guided Reading Level

• 35 titles for each Guided Reading Level

Unpack the Boxes by guided Reading Level

TipFor K–6 or 4–6 bookrooms, first find the stack with your Guided Reading Level Z books.

Start unpacking the Level Z cartons first. These books are thicker and heavier and take up more space. Put the Level Z books on the bottommost shelf and fill the shelf from there.

The Teaching Cards are the first things you see when you open a box.

After you take out the Teaching Cards, you’ll see the books for that guided reading level.

On the back of each of these books, you’ll see a sticker with the Guided Reading Level.

There are 6 copies of each title, packed in their own hanging bag.

This is how the books are pre-labeled and packaged.

STORage OPTIONS

Hanging bags

Each 6-pack set is packaged in an easy-to-store or easy-to-display hanging bag.

Bins and BookcasesExtra storage options, designed specifically for the Leveled Bookroom, can be purchased if you need them. The red bins and wooden bookcases keep your books neatly organized. The sturdy red bins fit perfectly inside the Scholastic bookcases.

• You can store the hanging bags in the bins.

• You can store the books in the bin without the bags.
