Time to start your own blog if you already have

Facebook account!

Do you like writing and want to make most out of internet world? Are you looking for a

passive income apart from your regular job? Have you ever wondered about how to start

your own blog but have been procrastinating? Do you have any idea what top bloggers

are earning?

Well, I was in the same boat a while ago asking all these questions until made up my

mind and created this blog.

I thought that in order to start your own blog I need to be a tech geek or someone;but I

was wrong .”The next easiest thing to creating a Facebook account is to start your own

blog”

“Starting a blog would take lesser time than the time we take normally to login the

Facebook for a quick snoop everyday” …The truth is, if you are focused to start a blog it

will not even take more than 5 minutes.

Running a blog is becoming as common as having a Facebook and twitter account and

the trend is growing like never before; besides that, the feeling when you post something

and know that people are bene�ted from it cannot be explained unless you experience.

If you had enjoyed creating your own Facebook page for the �rst time then I can bet you

that starting a blog and have it up and running will sweep you o� your feet for sure.

Here are the high level steps before we go to the

baby steps:

Purchase the domain if you do not have one: I assume that you don’t have a domain

First you need to search for the domain name that you like and get the domain that is

closer to what you have searched.

Find a hosting to start your own blog:

I use hostgator from India so I suggest my readers the same. This blog you are reading

right now is hosted in hostgator; I like their service no complaints, it’s o�ering 24/7 tech

support that you can either reach by email or a quick chat. The response time is usually

reasonable and I haven’t faced any issues like server is down or anything like that as of

this writing, I guess this site is loading in a reasonable amount time when you try to access

it.

Selecting a hosting plan:

If you want to experiment with one of more websites up and running then you can go for

multidomain hosting I have couple of websites running as of now. But, if you want just one

website then you can go for single domain. If you want to try for a month and then see

how it’s going then you can choose monthly plan; I have chosen yearly plan because I was

sure that I would have this blog for more than a month and also wanted to do some

savings in cost if I go to yearly package

Install the wordpress:

You have several hosting softwares in the market but I like wordpress because of its user

friendly design and functionalities it o�ers to run the blog with ease.

Check your email for the login details for the wordpress you entered during the process.

Select the theme:

Word press have some default themes, If you are beginner then I recommend you try one

of those before you get some traction .Once you start becoming a dedicated blogger you

can get nice theme from the market for a reasonable cost.

Play around with the admin login:

Once its setup, it may take a while for the blog to show up in the web because of the

process called “Domain propagation”-Basically ,it’s like letting the servers worldwide

know about this newly registered domain name and its hosting details. If after couple of

hours it’s not showing up then you can chat with the tech support, I don’t think you would

ever need to do that.

Here are the detailed tiny little baby steps to

start a blog:

Go to hostgator by clicking this link

Click on the menu “domains”

You will be taken to the below page

Enter the domain name you like in the “Enter your Domain Names(s)” and keep the “com”

selected.

And click “search for Domain Name(s)”.

I selected a sample domain name “myblog” for illustration purpose.

Select the domain name you like based on the pricing. I recommend you to choose

something that costs as little as Rupees 599/YR. Hit “Check out”.

I selected “topmyblog.com” domain name for illustration.

I am pretty sure you are familiar with this page if you are a online shopper like me.But

wait! You do not need to make a payment here.You can make the payment for the domain

and webhosting together later.

You have purchased the domain name. Now, you can go to hostgator for purchasing a

webhosting plan.

Now, Click on the “Get started” button under “Web Hosting” and also note down the any

coupon code if its displayed anywhere on the screen like the one “SUNSHINE” displayed

above the hostgator logo (Top right corner).

Now, depending on your preference you choose the Hatching plan or Baby plan. Choose

Hatching plan if you want to have only one blog; Choose Baby plan if you want to have

multiple websites under di�erent domain names like www.topmyblog.com and

www.somethingelse.com

You can select whether you want month to month plan or yearly plan by clicking the Drop

down box as I have shown below

Once you select the duration comfortable from the drop down box. Click “Sign up Now!”

You would be asked a question about domain name as below:

Select “Yes”. Because we are already purchase the domain name “www.topmyblog.com“

You may get another question with a default option selecting “CodeGuard”.Uncheck it

may not be needed.

After unchecking “CodeGuard” it will be like below

Click on “Continue”.

Now, click on continue on the above screen

You would be taken to the sign in page as below

Click on “Create an Account”

Give your valid email and other information, so that you can get the payment receipt and

“control panel information”

Once you enter the information and click on “create an account” you have the login

credentials ready.

Now, click on the payment options and do the payment like you do for any other online

shopping website.

Once the payment is processed you will be receiving the email like the one below, which

will have the login information that’s needed to setup the blog.

The above email is the actual email I got when I was setting up this blog. The rectangular

area I highlighted above is having the cpanel login [the one that says URL(s)] that is

needed for you to setup the blog in the coming steps.

Click on the url from the �rst rectangle which will take you to the cpanel as below.

Login into the using the credentials noted from the previous step. (Note: Make sure there

is no space when you paste the credential values)

Now, click “Log in”. You will be taken to something similar to the below

As I marked in the image clear the “In directory” from “wp” to empty, since it’s your �rst

website in this server.

You need to change the credentials under the “admin account” section, which is what you

use to control your blog and post your content. Very important!

Fill in the email details in the circled area and click the button “Install”.

After couple of seconds you will be taken to page below

Once you click on the admin url as shown in the above picture, you will be going to the

login page where you can use your admin credentials.

Once you enter the credentials and click “Log in”…You will be taken to the wordpress

admin page where you can literally take over anyone with your posts!!…this is called

“Dashboard”

Now, we are ready to install the theme in the next step. Theme: It’s something that

determines the appearance of your blog.

Go to the “appearance” and then click on “theme”. You will be taken to this below page.

Just hover around the theme you like and click on “Preview” if you want try and see the

look and feel.

Once you �nd the theme you like, you can click on “Activate” button on the theme.

Now, play around with the theme and start posting your “Hello world post”…You are all

set!
