The Ascension of the Lord (Cycle A) A Sunday Reflection After His triumph over death, Jesus ascends to heaven and
takes his place at the right hand of the Father. His ascension fills the world with joy. He goes, as He had announced, to prepare a place for us. Before ascending, however, He commanded the apostles—and us: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Mt 28:19). He has also promised to be with us until the end of time, and has sent us the Holy Spirit so that we may carry out our task of making disciples of all nations.
In the first reading we hear how the apostles are told that Jesus will return in the same manner they have seen Him go up. While we await His glorious return, let us fulfill his command.
My heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed to our campaign to help the Grove Outreach. May the Lord reward your generosity. God bless you.

La Ascensión del Señor (Ciclo A)
Reflexión Dominical Luego de Su triunfo sobre la muerte, Jesús asciende al cielo a
ocupar su lugar a la derecha del Padre. Su ascensión llena al mundo de alegría. Se va a prepararnos un lugar, como lo había anunciado. Sin embargo, antes de hacerlo da un mandato a los apóstoles—y a nosotros: “Vayan y enseñen a todas las naciones, bautizándolas en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo” (Mt 28,19). También nos ha prometido estar con nosotros hasta el fin del mundo, y nos ha enviado el Espíritu Santo para que podamos realizar nuestra tarea de hacer discípulos de todas las naciones.
En la primera lectura escuchamos que se anuncia a los apóstoles que el Señor volverá de la misma forma en que le han visto marcharse. Mientras esperamos Su venida gloriosa, trabajemos por cumplir Su mandato.
Gracias de corazón a todos los que han contribuido a la campaña para el Grove Outreach. Que el Señor les premie su generosidad. Que Dios los bendiga.

Why the Ascension of the Lord Matters THE FEAST OF THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD, which the Church celebrates at the
end of the Easter season, is hard to explain to a lot of contemporary people. The key to understanding both the meaning and significance of this feast is a recovery of the Jewish sense of heaven and earth.
We tend to think of salvation as an escape from this world—this vale of tears—to a disembodied state called “heaven.” Biblical cosmology sees heaven and earth as interacting and interpenetrating fields of force. On the Biblical reading, salvation is a matter of the meeting of heaven and earth, so that God might reign as thoroughly here below as he does on high.
The Church, guided by the Holy Spirit down through the ages, is meant to be the privileged place where this coming-together happens. In good preaching, in great Christian art, in the architecture of our churches and cathedrals, in the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, in the lives of the saints, and perhaps especially in the liturgy, earth and heaven meet.
The Ascension is Jesus’ journey, not to another place, but to another dimension. What the angels who appeared to the disciples [after He ascends] are hinting at none too subtly, is this: under the influence of Jesus’ spirit, get to work! Do all that you can to foster the marriage of heaven and earth!

Por qué importa la Ascensión del Señor LA FIESTA DE LA ASCENSIÓN DEL SEÑOR, que la Iglesia celebra al final del
tiempo de Pascua, es difícil de entender para nuestros contemporáneos. La clave para comprender el significado de esta fiesta es recobrar el sentido judío del cielo y la tierra.
Tendemos a pensar en la salvación como un escape de este mundo, de este “valle de lágrimas” a un lugar incorpóreo llamado “cielo”. Pero la cosmología bíblica considera que el cielo y la tierra son dos campos de energía que interactúan y se penetran mutuamente. Según la interpretación bíblica, la salvación es un encuentro entre el cielo y la tierra, de manera que Dios pueda reinar aquí abajo tan absoluta y plenamente como lo hace allá arriba.
La Iglesia, guiada por el Espíritu Santo a lo largo de los siglos, es el lugar privilegiado en que este encuentro tiene lugar. El cielo y la tierra se encuentran tanto en la buena predicación como en el gran arte cristiano, en la arquitectura de nuestros templos y catedrales, en las obras de misericordia corporales y espirituales, en la vida de los santos y especialmente en la liturgia.

The St. Hugh-Steinway Concert Series will dedicate their next live stream concert, featuring tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz with Roberto Berrocal at the piano, to raise funds to help the Grove Outreach. The concert will be live streamed on Friday, May 29, at 8 pm. El Grove Outreach necesita nuestra ayuda. The Blesseds /Los Beatos Blessed Marie St. Cecile de Rome (1897—1929)
— Dina Bélanger was born in Québec, Canada, in 1897. From the age of 6 she studied with the School Sisters of Notre Dame and received her First Communion. From an early age she had numerous mystical experiences.
She began studying the piano in 1905, and her great gifts pointed to a splendid professional future. She was sent to New York for further studies at the conservatory in 1916. During that time she lived at a house run by the Sisters of Jesus and Mary. After finishing her studies, she entered their novitiate in 1921, taking the name Cecile because of her love of music.
Her superior realized that here was a special soul, and told her to write the story of her life. She was
obedient, and thanks to this there Is a record of what God’s love was accomplishing in her soul. Cecile taught music to students at the Convent of Jesus and Mary near Québec, died of tuberculosis in 1929 at the age of 32. She was beatified in 1993.
Beata María de Santa Cecilia Romana (1897—1929) — Dina Bélanger nació en Quebec, Canadá, en 1897. Desde los 6 años estudió en el colegio de las religiosas de Nuestra Señora y allí recibió la Primera Comunión. Desde temprana edad tuvo numerosas experiencias místicas.
En 1905 comenzó sus estudios de piano y sus grandes dotes le auguraban un espléndido futuro profesional. En 1916 la enviaron a Nueva York a completar su formación musical en el conservatorio. Allí se alojó en un pensionado de las religiosas de Jesús y María. Al concluir sus estudios, entró en el noviciado de esta congregación en 1921, tomando el nombre de Cecilia por su vínculo con la música.
Su superiora comprendió que se hallaba frente a un alma singular y le indicó que escribiera su vida, lo cual hizo por obediencia, y gracias a ello se conservan las profundas huellas que el amor de Dios iba trazando en su espíritu. Cecilia fue maestra de música en el Convento de Jesús-María cerca a Quebec, y murió de tuberculosis en 1929 a los 32 años de edad. Fue beatificada en 1993.

What’s worse is that the eyes, the eyes of the soul, from so much living in the darkness, get so accustomed to it that they end up not knowing what light is. To lose the
sense of light because I get more accustomed to darkness. And so many human scandals, so much corruption, verifies this. Corrupt people don’t know what the light is. They don’t
know. We as well, when we are in a state of sin, in a state of being far from the Lord, we become blind and we feel
better in the darkness. We go along like this, without seeing, like the blind, moving along as we can.
Let us allow the love of God — which Jesus sent to us to save us — to enter into us. And the light that Jesus brings — the light of the Spirit — to enter into us, and
help us to see things with the light of God, with true light, and not with the darkness that the lord of the darkness gives us.
Homilía de la misa en Santa Marta, 22 de abril, 2020 Pero lo peor es que los ojos, los ojos del alma de tanto vivir en la oscuridad
se acostumbran tanto a ella que terminan ignorando lo que es la luz. Perder el sentido de la luz porque me acostumbro más a la oscuridad. Y tantos escándalos humanos, tantas corrupciones nos señalan esto. Los corruptos no saben lo que es la luz, no lo saben. Nosotros también, cuando estamos en un estado de pecado, en un estado de alejamiento del Señor, nos volvemos ciegos y nos sentimos mejor en la oscuridad y vamos así, sin ver, como los ciegos, moviéndonos como podemos.
Dejemos que el amor de Dios, que envió a Jesús para salvarnos, entre en nosotros y la luz que trae Jesús, la luz del Espíritu entre en nosotros y nos ayude a ver las cosas con la luz de Dios, con la verdadera luz y no con la oscuridad que nos da el señor de las tinieblas.
