South Molton Community College I am pleased to announce that Andy Comerford (Chair of governors) and I signed a ‘back to back’ pre-contract agreement for the proposed new build school on Tuesday 22nd September. Over the past 14 months we have all worked incredibly hard to ensure that we obtain the best possible build for our students, staff and community. It would be fair to say that we have obtained a great deal more than the first proposed new build. The build will cost over £10 million. The next stage is to sign the final contract which should be possible within a few weeks with gov-ernor approval. I expect the initial con-struction team to be on-site in a few weeks and that staff and students will be moving into the new school in early 2017. Andrew Finney

The show, run by the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon, is open to amateur and profes-sional artists working in all types of media. The chosen artists will have their work displayed as part of the popular art exhibition, running at the museum throughout January and February 2016. Contributors should either be local residents, or the work should be created or inspired by north-ern Devon, Exmoor and Lundy Island. Closing date for entries is 1 December 2015. The chosen artists will be selected by a panel of judges made up of representatives from the museum, White Moose Gallery, North Devon School of Art and North Devon Arts. For more information phone 01271 346747, email [email protected] or download an application form at www.devonmuseums.net/barnstaple. From North Devon Hospice

We would like to express our most heartfelt thanks to our business supporters for supporting our Mission: Unbreakable fundraising event in aid of North Devon Hospice on 1st

November.

In particular, we wish to highlight the magnificent contribution of South Molton Scaffolding; Jamie and his team spent painstaking hours with us around our 6 mile course in North Molton, establishing locations for 4 structures which they then very generously offered to build for us. On top of that, they were present on the day, looking after each structure and encouraging the Unbreakables. Special mention to Teapes Tyres of S Molton who generously donated 100 tyres for our first obstacle. We would also like to thank the commu-nity of N Molton and the Sports Hall who got behind the event so wonderfully; we simply could not have done it without them. Mission: Unbreakable, sponsored by Toller Beattie, was an inspiring fundraising event for North Devon Hospice, with over 400 people taking part. We hope to raise £50,000, vital income to help North Devon Hos-pice provide care and support to local people who really need it. For photos of the event, please visit N Devon Hos-pice’s Facebook page. Best wishes, Gerard Fawcitt, Fundraising Team

Musical Memories “Musical Memories”, a local singing group for people living with memory difficulties, runs every Wednesday from 1.30-3.30pm in S Molton YMCA (next to the Bowling Club). Note: we won’t be meeting on 23rd or 30th December. Singing is one of the best activities for unlocking the memory and is very therapeutic as well as fun. We start with a little social time, sing for an hour and end with tea and cakes. Susan North-rop is our musical leader who is also trained in sound healing. We have lots of volunteers who both sing well and bake excellent cakes! However, we don't have carer qualifications so all participants with memory difficulties need to be accompanied. There is no need to book, but please phone Tryphena on 01769 573722 if you would like more information.

New Befriending Service Torrage Aging Well has just set up a befriending service for the elderly in North Devon. A chance to talk to trained volunteers about anything trou-bling you, or just to chat. Ring 01805 622666 or visit www.torrage.org.uk or call in at Age Concern, South Molton on the Square for more information.
