Principal’s MessageOn Thursday I had the pleasure of attending the Yr 12 Farewell Assembly at Senior Campus. It was a heartfelt send off and celebration of the years of dedication for these students who have reached the final chapter of their school life. It was encouraging to witness the many academic awards received by ex-South Campus students. I would like to acknowledge the staff at this site who contributed in the foundational years of the development of these students. I would also like to express my congratulations to the newly appointed Captains Grace Gower and Thomas Nelson, Vice Captains Tatum Roberts and David Woods, Arts Captains Lucy Gleeson and Jordan Davis and Sports Captains Jaimee Nixon and Brock Larance.

Congratulations to Mrs Thompson and the members of the Aboriginal Education Team for their excellent organisation of this year’s NAIDOC Day celebrations. It was an enjoyable and positive school event. Many thanks also to the staff and students who supported the day with helping hands and involvement in the many activities on the day. A highlight for me was the poem written and read by Riverbank Frank which embodied the theme “Because of Her, We Can”.

Notable success that deserves a special mention is for Ella Murray who received the College Sportswoman of the Year Award at the College Celebration of Sport on the 24 September. This is an exceptional achievement.

I wish everyone a wonderful break and looking forward to seeing all staff and students back on the 15 October.

Dubbo College South Academy – Week 8

Top attenders trip for our Year 10 members saw them head South to Mount Selwyn for a snow trip. In the lead up members had to obtain above 85% attendance at school, attend Clontarf training, have immaculate behaviour in class and no ‘N’ awards.

The few days on camp saw us do a site visit to Snowy Hydro. Thank

you to Roger from Griffith for the networks. We enjoyed the facilities of the Wagga Academy and they cooked up a storm. Many thanks to Pat and team for having us. We enjoyed a massive day on the snow with the lads going riding from the first lifts all the way to the last lifts. Well done to all the young men on the trip.

A special outing was organised for boys who have had little contact with the Clontarf Academy. These boys usually are happy to keep to themselves. We started the day by taking them to Ten Pin Bowling and we enjoyed engaging with these students laughing and had

much fun dabbing. Then we were off to lunch and concluded the day at Taronga Western Plains Zoo. A great day out!

CAPA CREATIVE ARTS NIGHT was a pleasure for the organisers as much as it was for the audience and the performers. There is something truly special about being in a room of passionate supporters that brings out the best in us all. The mood of the room encompassed the admiration of the stage as well as the exhibition. We used the full splendour of our new display wall and 6 large tables to showcase a vast amount of artmaking by Visual Arts students.  The night saw over 20 performances by our students and we also had the gift of pieces supported by teaching staff. When the audience moved into the hall to admire the

artmaking we were serenaded by Mr Billiards on horn and Mr Randell on guitar. Highlights of the night were the charming voice of Elinore Wonderly supported by two novice musicians plus another classmate, the elective bands new musical item, Year 10 Drama monologues, Lachlan Galante on guitar supported with the gifted voice of Mrs O’Callaghan. The evening was jammed packed with entertainment and talented students.

During the evening we auctioned off items from the musical to raise money for new music stands for the Concert Band. Most impressively we received a bid of $300.00 for the Chaise Lounge that

Olga was carried on stage whilst carrying fire in her hands. This furniture was specially made by John Miller at the Senior Campus for the musical. Mr Harding was the lucky bidder and we sincerely hope it will brings some of the musical magic to his home.

These evenings are always a lot of work, but leaves one with a great sense of amazement at the efforts and skill of those that we are fortunate to teach and work with.

If you were unable to attend, I encourage you to come next time, you will not be disappointed.
