2017 College PresentationCongratulations to those students who performed last Wednesday night at college presentation night. There were 30 students from South campus who performed in the College band/College choir performance of ‘Carol of the bells’ that involved 60 students from across the three campuses. They really did sound spectacular!

2017 One Eyed Film FestivalThe 2017 ONE EYE FILM FESTIVAL saw a great deal of talent being showcased from South campus.Dr Anderson, English teacher (5th from left) with school captain Marcello Davis (5th from right) starred in SPACE a film she directed and written by Marcello’s mother, Erifili Davis. SPACE was shot on location in the Dubbo Family History rooms at the WPCC. Noah Cusack, Year 7 (4th from right), had the most number of short films included in the inaugural The Joeys - established to give encourage-ment to student filmmakers.Noah’s delightful use of ‘stickbot’ characters in his four animations of approximately 20 seconds each had the audience in rapture with titles such as ‘Mr Stickbot and the end of life’; ‘Halloween night and the naughty dog’, and ‘Stickbots and the dangerous skeleton’. Other students who acted in a film included: Maeve Sparrow (shown) and Jet Davis (not shown) who was the lead actor with Marcello in the very funky ‘ZIT’ written by Erifili Davis. This film was about teenage angst

having a ZIT and the fear of being rejected by the oppo-site sex! In the middle of the photo is a familiar face of ex South teacher, Miss Sai, who was in the production crew for another film LOST. Students and staff are encouraged to make their own short films for inclusion in next years festival. Go to Dubbo Film Groups facebook page to see all of this years festival films, or viewable under YouTube for the next 30 days.

Principal’s MessageCaptains for 2018Congratulations to our four outstanding young students who were selected as our school leaders for 2018 from a field of eleven students who stood for the position.

Lucy Roberts and Darcy Wood - School Captains Payce Cubby and Maeve Sparrow - Vice Captains

The election process involved writing an application, presenting a speech to staff and students and answer a series of questions at a formal interview. The school community was extremely excited by the announcements and we look forward to working with the captains in the coming year.Bring Your Our DeviceAs part of our strong and ongoing commitment to future focused teaching and learning, Dubbo college is excited to announce that we are introducing our Bring your Own Device (BYOD) program in Term 1, 2018 for all students. The Dubbo College BYOD program will promote engaging and innovative learning opportunities that develop communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creative skills for our students.BYOD refers to students bringing a personal technology device that students bring to school to use for educational purposes under the direction of a teacher. For the purposes of BYOD, “device” means a privately owned wireless device such as a laptop or iPad.The school will provide the ability to connect compatible devices to filtered DoE Internet services, which will provide safe, secure Internet access for students.UniformsFrom 2018 ALL students will be required to be wearing the new College uniform each day, with the exceptions of days when students have sport. The school uniform does include fully enclosed black leather footwear. If you required assistance with the purchase of the uniform please contact the school office.

Dubbo South ClontarfThis fortnight has been full of activity and movement within the Dubbo South academy. Staff have had a

number of opportunities for the young men to be involved in aside from our regular training mornings. We have loved all the different faces that have been getting involved with activities.

We thank all the young men for their efforts and want to encourage them all that if they work hard they will be rewarded accordingly.

COMMUNITY EVENT: Max Naden, Kaiden Hill, Kyle Rose volunteering their Sunday morning

to help out with river care duties near Troy’s reserve.

COMMUNITY EVENT: Supporting Orana Relay Walk For Life. The

crew had a good couple hours of walking and getting involved.

The year 12 students on stage taking it all in.

WORKSITE VISIT:A select few students had the chance to

do a worksite visit at the local rhino’s promotions factory. They learnt the

value of doing a job that you love and creating a business. Some lads have

now gone on to design a few logos that they will then screen print with Rhino

Promotions.

NAIDOC DAYWednesday 25th October our school celebrated the significance of NAIDOC. This year’s theme was “Our Languages Matter” the theme aims to celebrate the role that Indigenous languages play in both cultural identity and linking people to their land and water and also in the transmission of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, spirituality and rites, through story and song.We officially opened the day with a smoking ceremony and a traditional Wiradjuri welcome dance performed by uncle Ralph Nadens group, combined with a few of our students. Aunty Di McNaboe our keynote

speaker then shared with us her knowledge and understanding of the importance that language has in a contemporary society. This was followed by the cutting of the cake by junior AECG repsActivities included Koori-oki and live performances by students and staff. We also had special guest performers such as Doug Gordon and company from Delroy Campus, South Primary students who performed a couple of songs in language and a few staff members up doing the hoki-poki. Burnside Uniting Traditional dance group who are always a pleasure to host at any event. In addition we also had Rappers Ngali Shaw & Chad Peters who totally rocked the place with their rap songs.

Throughout the day we had additional activities such as; boomerang & spear throwing, TIG games, yarning circles, traditional food tasting, didgeridoo workshops, photo booth, face painting, logo design comp, jewellery making, hair braiding and beading. This year’s NAIDOC celebrations was one of the best our school has ever witnessed and it will be hard to top it next year but we look forward to the challenge. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone who helped make this year’s NAIDOC day a complete success.

AECG MEETINGThursday 2nd November our Campus hosted the Dubbo local AECG monthly meeting and we would like to thank the following people for their time and effort in creating a culturally appropriate environment for all members and guests to discuss and

promote programs and resources that are relevant to help give support to Aboriginal education.• Sarah Hall and junior AECG students for making and designing the cake.• Kyarni Gibbs for performing the song “Don’t rain on my parade”.

• Jessica Quince for performing the song “Waltzing Matilda” in the Wiradjuri language.• Mrs Wake for her Aboriginal paintings and artefacts.• Mrs Wicks and her hospitality students for providing a delicious lunch for all.
