Principal’s MessageAs many of you are aware, I have been relieving in the position ofprincipal whilst Mr Gorrie has been replacing Mrs Exner, who hasbeen on leave. Unfortunately, due to ill health, Mr Gorrie will not be returning this term and I will continue to fill his shoes until further notice. I am sure the whole school community will share with me in wishing Mr Gorrie all of the best for a speedy recovery.

The end of Semester One is drawing near and teachers are busy compiling reports to give feedback on student progress. We will betrialling publishing these reports in digital format so that they may be accessible through the parent portal. I encourage all parents whohave not already updated their details to contact the administration office to notify us of their email address.

In Week 9, Year 10 will be receiving information to start their subjectselection for 2019. This is an important step in their transition to Year 11 and we encourage families to have thoughtful discussions about your child’s aspirations and future intentions. There has already been a number of transition activities scheduled to support their preparation for the Senior Campus. We will continue to work with the students to make this transition as seamless as possible.

We currently have two student initiatives that are supporting community projects. Thank you to the thoughtful students who have organised these activities to support Give me Five for Kids and the RSPCA. Thank you also to the many staff and students who have made donations.

Astley Cup has begun and I am pleased that we have many year 10 students participating in sporting teams to compete against Orange High and Bathurst High in the coming weeks. Good luck and let’s hope we are successful in gaining the cup this year.

At the start of Term 3 staff will be participating in professional learning on effective classroom practice. For this reason the 23rd July is a pupil free day and students will return on Tuesday 24th July.

I look forward to meeting many of you at the next P&C meeting on the 13th August at 7.30pm in the library.

Well Done South Campus Boccia TeamOn Tuesday 5th June our Support Unit Boccia Team travelled to Orange to compete in the Western Area Boccia Competition. Our first game was against the local team of Canobolas High School. After losing the first end 1-Nil our team worked well to fight back to comfortably win the game 5-2. Coby Dagg rolled right next to the jack in 2nd end and Jackson Fleeton produced two solid rolls in the 4th end to help

the team score some late points. Round two was up against Dunedoo Central School. Beautiful rolling from Hunter Robertson and Brenden Coghill allowed us to just nudge in front to win 3-2 on a very low scoring match. Our final game was against Carenne High School from the Bathurst region. Both teams entered the final match undefeated. Brodie Sebelic-Lodding and Caityln Sauer produced some great shots to

keep us in the game. The lead switch between the two teams every end until the game ended in a 4-4 draw. Unfortunately Dubbo College South Campus lost in a very close tiebreaker roll-off. All teams on the day had a lot of fun and we look forward to returning to the competition next year. Special mention goes to Aaron Quince who rolled consistently close to the jack all day and helped the team grab extra points at all the crucial moments.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thinking of heading off for some holiday sun ‘up north’ or even overseas? Our 2018 students have been travelling all year on WordFlyers, our school’s online literacy subscription website. While students have been improving their literacy skills, they have also been earning virtual points to visit international locations on the site. On their virtual travels, students learn about the culture, geography, language and food at locations such as Madagascar, Cairo, Los Angeles, Phuket and New York.

Ask your child where they have flown to on WordFlyers so far and what literacy skills they have learned. Each child in 2018 has their own login details and can use the WordFlyers program at home. Please feel free to browse the site with your child.

Kind regards,Ms L WardHEAD TEACHER ENGLISH

RECONCILIATION WALK 2018More than 800 students from South and Delroy campuses were on hand to take part in the 2018 Dubbo College Reconciliation Walk at Ollie Robbins Oval. The theme for the walk focused around the statement “Don’t make our history a mystery”.

Met Man of Steel’s Countessa Olga

The Countessa is a villainous and devious character and she hates the Man of Steel and will do anything to get him out of the way. Countessa Olga wants to rule! She wants to rule the world! She wants to be queen of crime! To make her plan succeed, she must get rid of the Man of Steel. She has eight ridiculous henchman that aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed and do all the dirty work for the Countessa. The Countessa will do anything in her power to be the most powerful person in the world. She longs to become the “Dictator of the World”. The Countessa is the boss and is very mysterious. She has a cut throat nature, she is dangerous and a force to be reckoned with.

Bell Shakespeare

Last Thursday 14th June, The Bell Shakespeare Theatre Company performed “Shakespeare Is Dead” for Year 7. Students listened and laughed to the modern recount of the famous Elizabethan actor William Shakespeare. The actors performed short summaries of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies as well as lessons like

“How to die in Shakespeare.” The excitement did not stop there as students teamed up with the Montague and Capulet actors to take part in a Shakespearean insult battle on stage. After the performance students engaged in a ‘Q and A’ with the actors. Students questioned the actors’ favourite Shakespearean characters through to acting tips and the relevance of Shakespeare

in 2018. Discussions with students revealed the value of the performance to help them understand the complex plots of Shakespeare’s plays that they were introduced to this term in English. Year 7 resume their study of Shakespeare as they perform extracts from Shakespearean plays in pairs as part of their assessment task.

Clontarf North West Football CarnivalLast week a few of our Clontarf students went to Tamworth to defend the Shield at the annual North West Football Carnival. At the previous carnival our team took out the shield by going through the entire carnival undefeated. Unfortunately other teams brought their A-game and our boys were unable to hold up against these top sides. Our students remained very positive thoughout the games and enjoyed themselves no matter the score. The boys showed their respect for the game with smiles all around. They helped the opposition and one another off the ground after tackles had been completed. A big congratulations goes out to Robert Moore who received the Clontarf Spirit Award for his resilience thoughout the game and not letting anything phase him. He was able to build the morale for the rest of the team by doing so.Well done to all boys who competed, better luck next time .

Let’s Support the RSPCA

Year 7 students have decided to participate in a fund raising event to support the local RSPCA. Later in the month Debbie Archer, a representative from Dubbo City Council, will present to the Year 7 students some vital information about the work of the RSPCA and how students can support them especially during the winter months. Even though Year 7 initiated the idea, all students are encouraged to support this worthwhile course.

We would appreciated your support in the form of clean: blankets, towels, dog and cat food, bowls, coats, bedding, etc.
