Congratulations to all our students, staff and parents for a most pleasurable and well attended Swimming Carnival. The enjoyment and participation of all was obvious throughout the day, thus making the carnival a swimming success.

Our Parents and Citizens Committee meet on the second Monday of each month at 7.30am in our School Library, please come along and join.

Welcome BBQ It was wonderful to speak with so many parents of our new students. They were very positive about their children’s start to the year and shared their excitement about the years ahead at Dubbo College.

Germany in 2019 Yes, the rumours are true. Dubbo College South Campus is investigating the possibility of a school excursion to Germany in September 2019. Please view this notification as of a preliminary nature only!

Invoices Dubbo College South Campus Elective Fees and Voluntary Contributions were sent home last week. We keep our fees to a minimum and without your support we are unable to continue to provide all the opportunities we do.

Elective subject contributions go towards the provision of equipment and consumables used by students in subjects such as Art, Photography, Food Technology, and Industrial Technology. It is appreciated if these contributions are paid early in the year to cover the purchase of materials.

The students of Years 7 and 8 are offered the opportunity to sample a variety of subjects such as mentioned above. To be able to provide these opportunities we request a small donation of $2.00 per week ($80.00 per school year), this covers the cost of the equipment and materials. These opportunities give students a taste of the electives available to them in Years 9 and 10 and can often set them up for their career choice.

Your assistance in paying fees ensure we are able to continue to give your child every opportunity available from our school. We accept cheques, money orders and VISA payments can be made over the phone. Please contact the office on 6882 3744 if you would to make a payment using VISA.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CHILDREN’S SAFETY WHEN THEY ARE TRAVELLING TO AND FROM SCHOOL.

DRIVE AND PARK SAFELY NEAR SCHOOLS

The beginning and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools. You can help keep children safe by remembering the following:■ Drop off and pick up children on the school side of the road■ Never call out to children from across the road it is very dangerous!■ Always take extra care when driving in 40km school zones■ Follow all parking signs – these help keep children as safe as possible■ Park responsibly - even if this means you have to walk further to the school gate■ Never double park – it is illegal and puts children at risk■ Never do a U-turn or three-point turn outside the school as it puts children at risk of harm■ Model safe and considerate pedestrian and driver behaviours to your children. When travelling in a car ensure your children:■ Are correctly buckled up in their seatbelts■ Always get in and out of the car through the ‘safety door’ – the rear door on the footpath side of the car■ Are never left alone in the car.

length of 600m between Wheelers Lane and Alexandrina Avenue. During this time, there will be varied traffic conditions and while Wheelers Lane will not be closed, traffic may experience delays. There will however be an extended closure of Boundary Road (up to three months) from February 26. While interruption to traffic flow should be minimal, Council is writing to you in advance as you may wish to advise parents to allow for extra time for school drop-offs and pick-ups. If you have any questions or concerns in regards to this project, please contact Council’s Senor Projects Engineer, Stephen Howlett, on 6801 4000. Council would like to thank you in advance for your patience while it delivers this integral transport servicing requirement.Robert Flakelar - Manager Infrastructure Delivery FOR MORE INFORMATION: Stephen Howlett – Senior Projects Engineer - Ph: (02) 6801 4000 Website: www.dubbo.nsw.gov.au

Tell Them From Me student survey: Information and consent form for parents and carers

Dubbo College South Campus

Dear Parents and Carers,

In Term 1 2018, our school is taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feed-back on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed on-line and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys. Staff in schools will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. To ensure confidentiality, participating stu-dents will receive a unique username and password. Where fewer than five students respond to a question, the results will be sup-pressed. The survey typically takes 30 minutes or less to complete and will be administered by the school during normal school hours. Once the surveys are completed by students, reports are prepared and in most cases are available to schools within three business days.As well as schools getting student feedback, the Department of Education, through the Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE), has access to data from across NSW and is running a research project to look at state-wide patterns of student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. The research is looking at how these things impact on student

outcomes, including academic performance. Individual students will not be identified in any CESE publications, and all infor-mation will be handled in accordance with the relevant privacy legislation. Students’ personal information will not be disclosed by the department to any other person or body other than as required by law. This research will help schools in New South Wales to better understand how to improve student wellbeing and engagement. It will also help teachers and principals discuss what works to improve student outcomes. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. Your child will not take part if either you or your child do not wish. If, during the survey, your child is uncomfortable, he/she can choose to stop the survey at any time. The majority of questions in the survey can be skipped. If you do not want your child to take part in the survey, please complete the attached form and return it to the school by Friday March 9th, 2018.

More information about the survey and the research is available in English on the CESE website: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/ information-for-parents
