Our new Year 7 students have created an outstanding impression with their enthusiasm and willingness to learn. These new kids on the block were asked about their first impressions and shared some of their thoughts about their first week of school.

TAS, Science, PDHPE, English, Sport and History are already ranked as their favourite subjects. When asked “What do you like about school?” the answers ranged from hanging with friends, making new friends, walking to the different classes, loving sport, that learning is very interesting through to visiting the Ag Farm and their new teachers.

Already new friendships are developing and the enjoyment of being part of a new school has become obvious. These students are looking forward to participating in sport and the many opportunities our school can offer, such as sporting activities, Show Team, Choir and Band. They are looking forward to learning, learning new skills and participating in the various subjects on offer.

Meet some of our new kids on the block!

clontarf foundation Clontarf Corner - Term 1 Week 2, 2018This fortnight we have welcomed back all students. Great stories have been shared about what the lads had been doing in their holidays. A special induction lunch and mentoring sessions have taken place to help the new Year 7 members get comfortable in their new surroundings.

We have hosted a meet and greet breakfast for parents, which was a great opportunity for Clontarf staff to meet the families and create that connection. We thank all the families that attended. In Week 3 we are looking forward to getting back into Clontarf training and afternoon activities.

If you are interested in knowing more about Clontarf visit the team at Dubbo College South Campus today!

CHANGE OF FAMILY DETAILSPLEASE, if there are any changes to your family details, inform the school as soon as practical. It is imperative that we have correct family details so as we can contact you in an emergency and we are able to send relevant

information home. Please inform the schoo of any changes to email addresses, phone numbers, residential addresses or any important details of which the school needs to be aware.

In early 2017 parents/carers of Year 7 students were asked to provide consent for their children to receive three doses of HPV vaccine in the NSW School Vaccination Program. Most* Year 7 students who have received two doses of HPV vaccine are considered to be fully vaccinated and do not require a further dose. This change is based on recent international studies that show for children aged 9 to 14 years of age, two doses of HPV vaccine provide the same protection as three doses, as long as the second dose is given at least six months after the first dose. Based on this evidence, the World Health Organization (WHO) now recommends a two-dose HPV schedule, and this has already been adopted in comparable countries (i.e. the UK, Canada, the United States and New Zealand) and is now being adopted in Australia. In 2017 Year 7 students were given the second dose of HPV vaccine at least six months after the first dose to accommodate the urgent roll-out of the Meningococcal W Response Program to Year 11 and 12 students. Year 7 students who have received only one dose of HPV this year will be offered their second dose in 2018.

Parents/carers whose children were vaccinated in 2017 but who still wish for their child to receive a third dose of HPV vaccine can access a free dose from their general practitioner (GP). More information is available on the NSW Health website at www.health.nsw.gov.au/hpv or by calling your local public health unit on 1300 066 055.

* Students with significantly impaired immune systems are still recommended to have three doses of HPV vaccine. Parents of these students should make arrangements to complete the vaccine course with their GP or by calling their local public health unit on 1300 066 055.

BACK TO SCHOOL TIPS FOR PARENTSDrivers and riders should allow for children who may act unpredict-ably on the road as uncertainty and excitement over the new school term overrides otherwise sensible behaviour.

Please remember to abide by School Zone speed limits of 40 km/h from 8.00 am to 9.30 am in the mornings and 2.30 pm and 4.00 pm in the afternoons.

Parents are reminded also to brush up on their safe parking skills around schools when dropping off and collecting their children.• Use the kerb‐side doors for children to access and egress the car.• Do not allow children to go to the rear of the car to deposit their bags in the back door (or boot).• Do not call children from across the road to your car, collect them from their side of the road or park legally where you can and go to meet them, then cross the road together.

Illegal school zone parking causes dangerous situations and brings with it some heavy fines as follows:× No Stopping ‐ means you cannot stop in this area unless there is a medical or other emergency ‐$330 fine plus 2 demerit points.× No Parking – means you can stop here for a maximum of two minutes to drop off or pick up passengers and you must stay with-in three metres of your car at all times ‐ $183 fine plus 2 demerit points.Bus Zone – School Days – means you must not stop or park your vehicle in a designated school bus zone between 8.00 am and 9.30 am or between 2.30 pm and 4.00 pm (times may vary atsome schools) ‐ $330 fine plus 2 demerit points.× Stop on or near a children’s crossing – means you must not stop on or within 20 metres of the approach of a crossing or within 10 metres after the crossing ‐ $439 fine plus 2 demerit points. × Double parking (school zone) ‐ means you must not stop on a road between the centre of the road and another vehicle parked at the side of the road ‐ $330 fine plus 2 demerit points.
