v Alsager Town
28.02.2016
NWCFL Premier Division
Kick Off: 15:00
Issue 17
£1.50
DANNY
PENSWICK We welcome Alsager to the Royal British Legion Stadium in what could be a
massive game come the end of the season.
Whilst Alsager still sit bottom of the table, a run of 3 league games unbeaten
shows that there no longer the leagues whipping boys. The new Manager has
got the playing some decent stuff and they have the individual ability to score
goals out of nothing.
After last weekends disappointing postponements were looking to get back on
the pitch doing what we do best on the pitch. After a fantastic two home
league wins on the bounce, and 4 points from 6 across in East Lancashire.
We're looking to continue our own good run of form.
Competition for places has never been so fierce and for the first time in my
short managerial tenure I've got some tough decisions to make in terms of the
starting 11 and the squad.
Mike Hall and Mark Buchan have returned to today's squad after injury and Ben
Fletcher is looking close to a return aswell. Additionally Ben Fishwick a Gate he-
ro has resigned after returning from travelling Australia.
There's a great buzz around the place with will hopefully transfer itself to the
lads and onto the pitch today.
Up the Gate
Danny
Ben Fletcher (Sponsored by S.E.I. [Maintenance] LTD)
Superb young shot stopper that had a tremendous season last year. He kept numerous clean sheets
and played every single minute of every single game. 2015/16 will be his 3rd season with the club
where he’ll be looking to continue his fine form.
Nathan Trout (Available for sponsorship)
Nathan moved to the Fylde coast from Liverpool. A ball winning centre half that has a big presence
on the pitch, he’ll be hoping to force his way into the team and make his position his own.
Alex Colquhoun (Available for sponsorship)
After a short spell at the club last season, Alex has returned to the club hungry and determined to
play on a regular basis. He showed signs of quality last season and will be looking to cement his place
in the 2015/16 season.
Brett Ferguson (Sponsored by Service Solutions Direct Ltd)
One of the main characters within the changing room, “Channy” as he is called, always has stories to
tell, consistently produced good displays during last season and got on the score sheet on numerous
occasions. A very adaptable player that has made a huge impression on all within the club. Winner of
Clubman of the Year 2014/15.
Andy Richards (Available for sponsorship)
A club stalwart! ‘Rico’ as he is known, has been with the club for many seasons and has become a
linchpin of the side. His performances and changing room experience has played a vital role in recent
success. A player with many superstitions that is well liked at the club.
Josh Westwood (Sponsored by Mark Ashmore)
Josh was a rock at the heart of defence during last season. He produced some fine individual displays
and chipped in with a few headed goals. A quiet individual but very popular player that lets his feet,
or head do the talking. Josh is also adaptable to play up front.
Mike Hall (Available for sponsorship)
Mike was only with Gate briefly last season but his knowledge and experience of the game was bene-
ficial to all that played alongside him. He was influential in his performances and will be looking to
have the same impact throughout the 2015/16 season.
Conah Bishop (Available for sponsorship)
Conah is one of the youngest players in the squad and plays on the right side of midfield. He has the
pace to run at the opposition and can also score goals. He is a great addition to the team.
Joe Noblet (Available for sponsorship)
Joe had a spell with Gate a few seasons ago, and returned under the new management of Danny
Penswick. He is an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal and will be sure to add goals to the
squad.
Alex McKendrick (Available for sponsorship)
Alex has been at the club for a number of seasons, first arriving under the stewardship of ex
manager Russ McKenna. His work rate and willingness to do the unfashionable jobs in a
game have been hugely important to the team. Injury put a halt to his 2014/15 season but
he’ll be looking to come back a stronger player this season.
Billy McKenna (Available for sponsorship)
The flying winger missed a large part of last season due to injury but is looking to make the
right midfield position his own. A popular player within the changing room that can have a
big influence on games when in the mood.
Antony Stayte (Available for sponsorship)
Stayte is a great addition to the squad, who brings experience from his time at AFC Fylde
and from teams in a higher tier. He knows how to organise and motivate his team mates
and is very good at holding the ball up.
Ashley Rowley (Sponsored by TravelCare World)
Ash joined Gate towards the end of last season, and impressed in the time he played. He
scored a crucial equaliser at home to Congleton Town and will be looking to have an impact
this season.
Danny Penswick (Sponsored by Bill White)
Danny is the manager and captain of the club. He first joined midway through the 2013/14
season and soon established himself as a leader and highly influential player. His game un-
derstanding and levels of performance have seen him become a focal point of the team.
Mark Buchan (Available for sponsorship)
Mark models himself on Ally McCoist. A fiery Scot that knows where the goal is. His work-
manlike performances often go unnoticed, but he scored some valuable goals during last
season. An influential player both on and off the pitch and will be a key player during this
season.
Aaron Clarke (Available for sponsorship)
Aaron was part of the Kirkham and Wesham squad which was victorious at Wembley in
2008. Unfortunately for Aaron, he picked up an injury the week before the final so didn’t
take part in the game. A quick striker who possesses skill and eye for a pass and can also
play in behind the striker in attacking midfield. Aaron will be looking to cement a spot up
top and to fire Gate up the table.
Ryan Tanser (Available for sponsorship)
Ryan joined the club in October and came off the bench in the 5-2 defeat away at Atherton
Collieries. He scored his first goal for the club on his first full debut in our 5-1 win over
Maine Road in the MEN United cup. He will bring goals to the team for sure.

Stadium this weekend as they enter-
tained AFC Liverpool for their first
home game in three weeks. Gate
made two changes from last Satur-
days defeat away at Abbey Hey with
Mike Hall and Mark Buchan, who
picked up a shoulder injury in Satur-
days game, replaced by Daniel Mor-
ris and Jamie Gibson. Gate made the
best possible start to this game and
took the lead after two minutes.
First Jamie Gibson’s shot was de-
flected for a corner.
Gate looked dangerous on the break
and as the ball was cleared from a
Liverpool corner Gate broke. Unfor-
tunately Gates counter came to
nothing as Tansers cross went out
but the opportunity was clear with
Liverpool pushing so many men
forward. Minutes later the visitors
had the chance to take the lead but
Barry’s shot cannoned off the bar as
Gate soaked up the pressure. This
was fired in to find Danny Morris on
his first start for the club free at the
front post to head home! Ryan
Tanser could have made it 2-0 for
Gate quickly after the restart after
strike partner Morris fizzed the ball
across the box but Tanser just could-
n’t find the extra inch to meet the
ball.
Gates lead didn’t last long though as on
the 10th minute AFC would equalise. The
lethal striker Ryan Cox, who already has
over 20 goals this season, catching
Fletcher off his line first time to equalise.
There wasn’t much Fletcher could have
done differently the shot coming out of
the blue from 30 yards out caught every-
one by surprise
Captain Richards and Joe Noblet linked
well down the right hand side as part of
a good flowing move for Gate but the
latter ran out of room on the edge of the
box and he tried to beat his man. Gate
had a chance from a free kick soon after.
The wind caught the ball, which was
eventually found by Westwood who
headed down to Morris, but his shot was
fired over.
Gate as Alex Colquhoun went down un-
der a heavy elbow from AFC’s left back.
Thankfully after a long period of stop-
page he was back to his feet, soon to be
substituted for Stayte. The second half
bought a sour note for Gate as Alex
Colquhoun went down under a heavy
elbow from AFC’s left back. Thankfully
after a long period of stoppage he was
back to his feet, soon to be substituted
for Stayte. It was Stayte who would set
up Gates second goal.
His ball sent Ryan Tanser through in behind
the Liverpool defence but his shot bounced
off the post. But Danny Morris was in the
right place at the right time to fire into the
roof of the net for his and Gates second of
the game.
Liverpool had the chance to level but Josh
Westwood was in the right place at the
right time to poke the ball wide before an
AFC attacker could touch the ball.
Gates third came in the 80th minute. A free
kick sent in by Joe Noblet found the head of
Danny Morris who leapt highest to put Gate
3-1 up. Ben Fletcher made sure of the
points in the 90th minute with a quality
double save to deny AFC.

Daniel HaydenIF YOU WERE TOLD YOU HAD 10 MINUTES TO LIVE. WHAT WOULD YOU DO FIRST?
Sit and watch the last 10 minutes of the Watford vs Leicester play off semi final game which is
recorded on my Sky box, while eating dinner with the rest of my family.
IF YOU COULD SPEND 10 MINUTES IN HOUSE WHEN THEY WERE AWAY, WHOSE WOULD IT

Watford.
WHO WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO SPEND 10 MINUTES STUCK IN A LIFT WITH?
Lee Evans, without a doubt.

that game. If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to watch it to see why!
IF YOU COULD SPEND 10 MINUTES ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE?
Hmm. I really want to visit America so somewhere over there would be good.

COLNE 0 0 SQUIRES GATE HT 0-0
The team started off at a lively tem-
po and had alot of possession early
on firing the ball across the
pitch. Gates first chance of the
game came after five minutes.
Unfortunately for Gate Josh West-
wood up from the back was judged
to be in an offside position as the
free kick was fired in. Gates next
chance was again from a free kick
this time on the opposite side after
Higham was fouled as he burst for-
ward. Colne did well to clear the
corner first time and hit Gate on the
break. With defenders still recover-
ing from the corner Richards did
very well to hold off Jason Hart and
draw the foul in his own box.
Jake Higham got forward well again
from left back and aimed his cross
into Noblet's feet at the edge of the
box but Coleman for Colne did well
to meet the ball first and clear. Gate
were doing well to contain the
attacking threat of the home side
but struggled to make the most of
their chances when they came to
them. Possibly Colnes best chance of
the first half fell in the 19th minute.
Ben Hoskin fired the ball into the
back post to find the head of Jason
Hart but his header back across goal
fell the wrong side of the post.
.What followed was certainly Gates best
chance of the half. Billy Mckenna fouled
just outside the box saw Joe Noblet step
up to curl in the ball towards goal but
Thompson did well to palm the ball over
the crossbar.
The second half started with a great save
10 minutes in from debutant Josh
Woods in goal to keep Gate in the game.
The keeper who hasn't played for several
years made several quality saves to keep
Gate in the game. As the game went on
Colne pushed more men forward but a
resolute Gate defence kept Colne's
attackers to a minimum amount of shots
possible.
Joe Noblet had Gates next chance when
he stuck a fierce shot across the box
which was just the wrong side of the
post. He was involved again moments
later when he had a great chance to
send Colquhoun in on goal. But his pass
was cut out by the last man and the
move broke down.
As Colne broke forward to find a winner
Noblet was again finding more and more
room to manoeuvre in.
He cut the ball back to Stayte on the
edge of the area who caught the shot
superbly but it sailed wide of the post.
As the game wore on Colne threw more and
more men forward looking for a goal. But
Gate stood tall and looked a very disciplined
and organised side. The whole team never
stopped and had each other's back through-
out the game to cover each other.
Gates last chance of the game came with 9
minutes to go. Joe Noblet again involved
when he and McKenna broke forward from
a Colne attack. It looked a 2 on 2 situation
and had Noblets pass been better Mckenna
could have been through 1 on 1. But the
ball was cleared by Colne as the move came
to a halt. Late on Gate had to face a barrage
of attacks from Colne but held their own to
pick up a valuable point on the road.

Squires Gate travelled to Nelson
on Tuesday night looking to
push away from the relegation
places after Saturday's impres-
sive draw at Colne.
Manager Danny Penswick had
done his homework on Nelson
and pre matched explained how
he new what to expect.
Penswick named an unchanged
side from Saturday's draw with
Jamie Gibson coming onto the
bench.
The game started with no real
rhythm and saw a lot of free
kicks and throwins early on. The
first real chance of the game fell
to the home side but their right
winger fired over from outside
the box. Gates first chance fell
to Billy McKenna from the cor-
ner but he was tackled before
he could get in his stride. Gate
could have opened the scoring
after 13 minutes but Josh West-
woods header was cleared off
the line. Gate had several
chances to counter from Nelson
attacks but first McKenna then
Noblet struggled to get shots
away.
Nat Taylor had Nelsons best chance
of the first half when he fired a shot
towards goal after Stayte lost sight
of the ball. Brett Ferguson had the
last chance of the half when he drift-
ed inside from the wing but his shot
was well over.
The second half couldn't have start-
ed better for Gate who opened the
scoring after 3 minutes. Nelson giv-
ing the ball away at the back aloud
Joe Noblet to pick up the ball and he
cooley slotted the ball past the Nel-
son keeper who left a lot of space on
one side of the goal.
The home sides heads seemed to
drop and Gate would again exploit
poor defending. Ryan Tanser picking
up the loose ball to use his pace and
beat the last defender and fire low
past the keeper.
Gates quick fire double would soon
become a triple when 6 minutes
later they added yet another. The
home side caught short at the back
again and in a 3 on 1 situation
Noblet crossed the ball across the
face of goal and Ferguson got to the
ball first to tackle the ball into the
net.
It was a nervy last 30 minutes for Gate
when Nelson got a goal back. Poor de-
fending from the corner aloud the Nel-
son man to meet the ball first and head
home. Billy McKenna had a great
chance to score a superb goal with 10
minutes left of the game. He jinked and
turned his way past 3 men but the end
product was lacking and his shot went
wide of the post.
Nelson could have made it a nervy fin-
ish late on when they won the ball back
from Gates through in. They burst for-
ward in numbers but the substitute
Morrison fired over the crossbar.
The win moves Gate up a place above
AFC Darwen and with a 2 point gap.
Gate are next in action next Saturday
when they host top of the league Run-
corn Linnets at home, kick off 3pm.

The club was founded in 1965 as Alsager from the merger of Alsager Institute and Alsager United, and the current ground was ac-
quired in 1967. They started off playing in the Crewe League. After improving the ground's facilities they joined the Mid Cheshire
League in the 1971–72 season. After the 1972–73 season they changed name to Alsager Town and they remained in the league under
that name until the 1985–86 season. In 1986 they changed name to Alsager United finishing fifth in the 1986–87 season and were run-
ners-up in the league in 1987–88. The club then reverted to Alsager were forced out of business for due to lack of funds associated
with poor support.
After two seasons in the Crewe League Premier Division, Alsager regained entry to the Mid Cheshire League, joining the Second divi-
sion, in the 1991–92 season. In 1995–96 they finished in third place, missing out on the runners-up spot on goal difference. In 1998
they joined the Midland League where they spent just one season, 1998–99 finishing as runners-up. They then applied to join

place and thus earn promotion to the Northern Premier League First Division. In 2006–07 they finished in 14th. They also finished in
14th in 2007–08, this time in the newly created Division One South.
The season also saw a new ownership of Alsager Town with local businessman Chris Ansell and former player Richard Mitchell teaming
up to take over the club and form Alsager Town Football Club Limited.

During your time at Gate, what has been your best moment/game?
Bamber Bridge away after the FA Cup game. Great for my family and friends as I live so
close.
Do you remember your first game for Gate? What was the score?
Maine Road in 2009 was my first game for Gate. I can’t remember much of the game to be
honest and definitely can’t remember the score.
What has been the best goal that you’ve scored?
It has to be that goal I scored against Bamber Bridge in the FA Cup , peach of a strike! Or
Ramsbottom at home in 2014. Not bad for a right back!
Last goal you scored?
Tap in against Ashton last year I think.
If you could pick 3 PL players to join Gate on a free. Who would they be and why?
John Terry, a natural leader and a solid centre back. We’d have a solid defence.
Sergio Aguero, for obvious reasons. Gate need a new striker so he would do.
Alexis Sanchez would be my final choice, his work rates unreal.
If you were manager of a 5 a side team and had to pick 2 Gate players and 3 PL players.
Who would you pick?
Me and Channy to represent Gate. PL players I’d have Petr Cech, Yaya Toure and Harry
Kane. That’d be unstoppable.
Best game and goal that you’ve ever seen?
As a Liverpool fan games don’t get much better than the Champions League final in Instan-
bul in 2005.
The best goal was Gerrard’s goal against Olympiakos where he just hits it from about 30
yards.
Last thing you do before kick off?
Look for my dad Ray, and wee on the pitch haha, sorry Brian!
If Gate were to reach the final of the FA Cup, who would you want to come up against?
Preston North End. My son Bailey would love that.
Andy Richards
This week we caught up with Gate captain Andy Richards and asked him
about his time at Squires Gate, and football in general.
Squires Gate FC proudly wore poppies on their shirts for this game, and both teams stood for two mins silence, before the
match against Alsager Town to the Royal British Legion Stadium. Gate bouyed by their win at table topping Maine Road last
weekend where they played them off the park Gate went into the game knowing a win would take them into the top half
of the table for the first time in over two years. Manager Dave McCann started with the same 11 who had won at Maine
Road for the first time this season.
Despite their lowly league position it was Alsager who got off to a great start, Steve Hughes firing home an 18 yard effort
on 9 minutes giving Gate keeper Ben Fletcher no chance. Seydou Bamba brought parity to the game on 19
minutes, scrambling the ball over the line after good work from Jack Cook, an in-form Jack Sowerby came close minutes
later, his header going just inches over the bar the visitors crossbar. In an entertaining 1st half it was Alsager who threat-
end next, hitting the crossbar with a header. On 40 minutes Gate's goalscorer Bamba came a whisker away from his sec-
ond, watching his spectacular left foot volley going inches wide.Gate's Adam Cowen scored what looked to be their second
of the afternoon only for the linesman to flag for offside to the bemusement of the crowd and home players, 60 seconds
later the Alsager keeper Steven Dryden brought out a fingertip save after Jack Cook hit a 20 yard volley.
Against the run of play Alsager took the lead on 72 minutes, Jed Davies with a 30 yard volley from a Gate clearance. The
away sides confidence visibly lifted after their second of the game and the Staffordshire side were determined to block out
Gate's enterprise knowing a win and a defeat for Winsford would take them out of the bottom two.
In an end to end finale to the game Gate thought they had found an equaliser when hotshot Sowerby latched onto a
Squires Gate looked more comfortable , than the home side, who fielded what to me is the tallest back five in the
league, but Gate pushed them back, and had a penalty claim denied, but then went behind on 14 mins to a goal
by Aaron Best. This seemed to make the visitors more determined, as the game went on, bringing out the best of
Alsager keeper Anthony White.
Gate fielded a new face on the left wing, in Zach Clark, and Max Rothwell starting his first game of the season,
after coming on in the second half last week. His game was short lived though when he suffered an ankle injury,
to be replaced by Jamie Gibson. Despite the visitors having most of the play in the first half the home side man-
aged to hold them out, with the odd attack to keep Gate keeper Ben Fletcher on his toes. The second half took a
similar pattern and as the game reached the last 15 mins, the home side had White to thank for retaining the
lead.
On the 80th min, a long centre from Billy McKenna, who was constantly working the defence down the right, and
his cross found new boy Zach Clark, with room to beat his marker as he raced in from the left, before placing the
ball beyond the reach of keeper White, to equalise for Gate, and set up a fantastic last ten minutes, which saw
the visitors, pumping balls into the danger area, with the home defenders preventing them taking the points
when at times it looked inevitable.
With the final seconds seeing more shots on goal than in the first half of the game, and most of the action took
place within eleven paces from the goal line. They traveled back up the M6 with their first point of 2014, when

It took Gate until the 24th minute to equalise the scoreline, Sean Holmes hacked down on the edge of the box
and with the referee awarding a penalty, Alex Murphy stepped up to slot home. Gate looked threatening and
again got themselves on the score sheet Danny Penswick rising highest from the corner to put the home side
ahead. Gate who could have been ahead even further shortly after but Alex Murphy's couldn't control the ball
on the edge of the area, moments later Murphy had a chance to add another goal to his tally but his header
found the wrong side of the post. But on 40 minutes Gate would cement thier lead, tricky Harry Dunn using his
lightening pace eased away past the defence and finish cleverly slotted the ball past Kurasic the Alsager keeper.
Into the second half and there was a buzz around the ground after Gate had come back from one down to be
leading 3-1 many fans were expecting double figures. Gate started the second half like the finished the first, the
home side were first to every ball and clearly wanted the win more. The man of the first half Alex Murphy could
have added another goal to his collection but his header was saved well by the Alsager goal keeper. It took Gate
until the 60th minute to add to their tally, Jake Forshaw meeting the ball first to head past the on-rushing goal-
keeper.
It would be Forshaw who would steal the headlines, the winger beating the offside trap before a composed
finish to make it 5 on the 75th minute. But the little winger wasn't done there, when on the 89th minute he
completed his hatrick from the penalty spot. Harry Dunn fouled on the edge of the box and Forshaw was
adamant to take the spot kick to make it six for the Gate.
The game started with a high intensity and a quick pace which is surprising given the time of season the game
was being played. The home side looked to keep possession from the start and looked to build up the play from
the back forward. This played into Gate's hands though as the home side struggled to play their game on a bob-
bley pitch with players who would perhaps be suited to a more direct play style. Gate's constant pressure got it's
reward on 12 minutes when Captain Danny Penswick's free kick found the run of Alex Murphy who's header
couldn't be stopped. Gate didn't stop there though and straight from the kick off were back pressing the ball.
Gate almost replicated their opener minutes later with a free kick in the same position but this time no- one
could get on the end of the delivery.
All the play in the first 30 minutes was in Alsager's half with Gate firmly on top. Brett Ferguson, forward from left
back had the chance to double Gate's lead but his shot was smothered by the goalkeeper. Alsager's first chance
of the game came after 35 minutes, a mix up in defence for Gate but they recovered well to clear the danger.
The last chance for Gate came again for Ferguson he found himself on the edge of the box but his shot, with his
weaker right foot, flew straight across goal and cannoned off the far post, just inches from the back of the net.
The second half started as quick as the first with both teams looking to add goals to the game. Gate's first chance
of the second half came 10 minutes in. Dodgy defending from the home side led to a very strong tackle inside
the box but the referee waved away any protest from the Gate players. Soon after Gate were awarded the pen-
alty they should have probably had earlier. It was a good run down the right by Mckenna before the home sides
defence again dived in. Alex Murphy to stepped up from the spot to score his and Gate's second of the game and
put the visitors further in front. The last 20 minutes of the game became very much end to end as the home side
probed for a late goal. But like they have countless times this season Gate kept the oppositions attack to a mini-

Josh Kay started the season at Squires Gate, and showed bags
of potential in his time here. He impressed in pre season wins
over Wren Rovers and Lostock Green scoring a few belters
along the way. He joined AFC Fylde for an undisclosed fee a
few months ago and has continued to progress his playing
career to the next level.
"I'm delighted to join such a big club like Barnsley and can't
wait to get going," Josh told barnsleyfc.co.uk
"I know Barnsley give opportunities to younger players and I'll
aim to grab my chance when it comes along.
"I'd like to thank everyone connected with AFC Fylde and
Squires Gate for helping me to where I am today.
"This is a very exciting new chapter in my career and I'm determined to work really hard to make it a success." Kay con-
tinued.
He is not the only player to come through the ranks at Squires Gate, with Jack Sowerby joining Fleetwood Town for an
undisclosed fee back in November 2014 and has made 3 first team appearances since but is yet to score a goal for the
league one side.
EX GATE MIDFIELDER JOINS BARNSLEY
Gate midfielder Joe Noblet was on TV a few weeks back as he starred on ITV's Take Me Out with
Paddy McGuinness.
What is it? The objective of the show is for a single man to obtain a date with one of thirty single
women. The women stand on stage underneath thirty white lights, each with a button in
front of them. A single man is then brought down on stage via the 'Love Lift' and tries to
persuade the women to agree to this date in a series of rounds, playing a pre-recorded
video discussing his background, displaying a skill (such as dancing or playing a musical
instrument), or playing another video in which the man's friends or family reveal more
about his virtues and philosophy.
At any point during the rounds, the women can press the button in front of them to turn
off their light if they do not believe a date with this man would be constructive to their
well-being and if this occurs, their area of the stage will turn red. If, at the end of three rounds, there are still lights left
on, the bachelor will turn off all but two of the remaining lights himself. He will then have a chance to ask one question to
the last two women, before choosing which woman he wants to go on the date with by turning off one more light. If the
man is left with two lights at the end of round 3, he will just ask his question to the two remaining women and if there is
only one light left at the end of round 3, he will go on the date with that girl without asking her his question. There are
usually four men brought on in the course of a single episode, though on some occasions segments have been cut and
only three men have been shown.
How did Joe do? Joe got all the way to the final round where he got himself a date in Fernandos
NOBLET STARS ON TAKE ME OUT
Ian WoodwardIt’ll be no secret that you are disappointed with how this season has gone so far. What do
you think been the major cause for the downfall ?
We have struggled for the past couple of years to be honest. We had played some decent
football at start of the season but kept losing by the odd goal which affected confidence.
Players kept coming and going and we never seemed to be able to field a settled team. I
think the new manager is gradually starting to turn things around.
What has been your most memorable moment/game within your time watching Alsager?
That’s a difficult one. Winning our last three games of the 2013/14 season which kept us up
when we looked certainties to finish in the bottom three was probably the best.
Is there any players that Gate supporters should watch out for? Any players that have
stood out for you this season?
We have had such a vast turnover of players it is difficult to say, but captain Tom Fogg has
impressed me since he arrived.
If you were to bring in 3 Premier League players to Alsager Town on a free. Who would
you sign and why?
Robert Huth (Leicester) a no nonsense defender who has the experience. Dele Ali
(Tottenham) a great prospect and future England star. Jamie Vardy (Leicester) He’s played
in non league and is proving that anything is possible.
Have you ever been to Squires Gate before? If so, do you remember the score?
Unfortunately I haven’t.
What has been the best goal you have seen, in any league?
I couldn’t honestly say off the top of my head.
Have you ever been to Wembley on any occasion? What would be your dream scenario
there?
I have been to the old Wembley three times to watch my other team, Port Vale, but I would
love to go to watch Alsager there in an FA Vase Final.
There is still just under 20 games to play, what would be your targets for the rest of the
season?
To achieve the "great escape" and stay up!
Which grounds do you enjoy visiting in this league? Any grounds with good memories?
My wife and I live in Congleton, so I always enjoy going there, particularly when we win!
If you were manager of a 5 a side team, and you could pick 2 Alsager players and 3 all
time Premier League legends, who would you pick?
I'll pass on that one.
Jay Hayden Looking forward to Euro 2016, programme editor Jay Hayden tells us who he would take to France,
who he thinks will be key for England and who would make his starting 11.

WHO WILL BE KEY?
Eric Dier Spurs are one of the most solid teams at the back this season, and Dier has played
a huge part in that, being able to close down quickly and put pressure on forwards. He’s a
great prospect for the future so why not give him a chance this summer, when he has shown
that he can do it in the Premier League.
Dele Alli Another Spurs player who deserves his place this summer, I think he’ll be able to
link up well with Vardy and already knows Kane. Another great young addition to fill the gap
that Gerrard and Lampard have left. He can score some cracking goals too so who knows!
Jamie Vardy He has shown what he can do to defenders this season. It’s been a long time
since England have had a striker who plays off the last defender, and also has the pace to
leave them yards behind. He has passion, desire and the pace. A front three of him, Rooney
and Kane could be lethal.
HOW FAR WILL WE GO?
Looking at our group, I’ll be surprised if we don’t finish top but I said that in 2010. It just de-
pends what England team turns up. If it is the one that got us through qualifying, then we
could go to the quarters at least. I’ll say quarter finals.

SQUIRES GATE 2
SILSDEN 0
Squires Gate made a bright start to the game and just a couple of minutes into the
half should have been ahead, good work by Mark Buchan, who's knock down found
Alex Murphy's run into the box but his shot was gathered well by the Silsden keeper.
Gate looked the hungrier of the two sides in the opening half and made it very tough
for Silsden to keep the ball and play their normal game, Gate made sure Silsden didn't
have time on the ball but when the away side did get through, the Gate defence stood
firm. More great play from Harry Dunn and Alex Murphy allowed the latter to find
space in the corner of the 6 yard box but his shot hit the side netting, Gate were
getting closer. The break though would come shortly after for Gate who would take
the lead. The corner fired into the near post and with the flick on won Mark Buch-
an was in the right place at the right time to flick home in what was a real poachers
goal. Silsden looked to be getting back into the game in the final 10 minutes but Gate
stood firm to deny them and could have doubled their lead on the break, with great
work from impressive Harry Dunn to get in behind at the back post but the end prod-
uct let the player down.
Into the second half Gate started as they'd started the first with alot of high pressure
not allowing Silsden time on the ball, it took Gate 7 minutes to double their lead a
good ball into the danger area for Gate Alex Murphy taking the chance and stretching
to get a toe onto the ball and put Gate two up. Gate had to be on their toes soon after
with Josh Westwood in the right place to clear the ball off the line and deny the visi-
tors. As the half went on Silsden had their chances to pull a goal back first a double
save from Ben Fletcher to deny them. Then Silsden had the ball in the net but the goal
was ruled out for a foul.
