In this series, we will clear up some of the misconcepons about humility and discuss why it is so beneficial. We will gain a deeper understanding that all we have ulmately comes from God. We will also explore how prayer helps us to remain humble as we acknowledge God’s greatness. We will learn how to avoid the comparison trap and the temptaon to compare ourselves with others while learning to live up to the standards God has for us. We will look at how humility helps us to acknowledge to others and to God when we are wrong, and to overcome our weaknesses and failures. Finally, we will take a look at how God honors and raises up those who are humble. This Lent can be a fruiul journey of conversion if we allow the Lord to work on us, to help us grow in humility, an “atude adjustment” that will draw us closer to the Lord. In Christ, Fr. Troy

Masses on March 16/17

We give thanks to God for the successful

completion of our rewiring project.

The weekend of March 16/17, all Masses

will return to St. Mathias Church.

I am sure that most parents at one me or

another have told their children, “You are in

need of a real atude adjustment.” As we

begin the holy season of Lent, we are beginning

a new message series entled, “Atude

Adjustment.” A"er all, there is an “atude

adjustment” each one of us needs to make

when it comes to a parcular atude, a certain virtue that

we all need to work on, the virtue of humility.

It has been said that this is the greatest Chrisan virtue. As

important as humility is, it is o"en misunderstood. Humility

is not thinking less of yourself, it is thinking of yourself

less. Humility is not pracced because we are unaware of

the benefits - specifically that the one who humbles himself/

herself will be exalted. In this series, we will clear up some of

the misconcepons about humility and discuss why it is so

beneficial.

We will gain a deeper understanding that all we have

ulmately comes from God. We will also explore how prayer

helps us to remain humble as we acknowledge God’s

greatness. We will learn how to avoid the comparison trap

and the temptaon to compare ourselves with others while

learning to live up to the standards God has for us. We will

look at how humility helps us to acknowledge to others and

to God when we are wrong, and to overcome our

weaknesses and failures. Finally, we will take a look at how

God honors and raises up those who are humble. This Lent

can be a frui/ul journey of conversion if we allow the Lord to

work on us, to help us grow in humility, an “atude

adjustment” that will draw us closer to the Lord.

In Christ,

Fr. Troy

Welcome our new Coordinator of Music & Liturgy:

Annie Thompson Almeida

The parish of Saints Mary & Mathias is very excited

to welcome on board our new Coordinator of Music

and Liturgy, Annie Thompson Almeida. Annie is

currently teaching English in China and will be

returning home to the US in August and coming on board with our parish

September 1st

.

"Annie is a Green Bay nave (Go Packers!) who has been playing the piano,

singing, and leading ensembles in church, musical theater, and opera for

over 20 years. Her studies in Opera Performance led her to receive a

Doctorate in Music from the University of California- Santa Barbara. During

this me, Annie was blessed with the opportunity to perform with the

Chamber Choir and in Young-Arst Opera programs throughout Europe.

These journeys inspired her to travel even more, which culminated in 6

amazing years living and teaching English in China and Ecuador, where she

met her husband, a nave of Ecuador.

Annie has enjoyed her me abroad immensely, but felt a special calling to

come home- home to the United States, yes, but also to the piano, to sing-

ing, and to the church community. Before starng graduate school, Annie

was filled with joy every day in her posion as Director of the

contemporary praise band at St. John the Bapst Church in Green Bay. She

passionately believes that the Holy Spirit speaks to every one of us in a

different way, and she experiences that the most through music. Annie is

extremely excited for this new part of her journey and can't wait for her,

her husband Wilson, and their puppy Tyrion to dive into the vibrant, di-

verse community of SS Mary and Mathias."

Penance

“All members of the Chrisan faithful are bound

to observe penance in virtue of divine law by works of

charity, prayer, and self-denial by observing fast

and absnence. Lent is a parcular season in

which penitenal days are prescribed for members of

the faithful to fully enter into the mystery of

Jesus’ life, death, and resurrecon.”

Regulations for Fast and Abstinence

Ash Wednesday, March 6h and

Good Friday, April 19th, are days of

fast & absnence.

Fasting - On days of fast, one full meal and two

lesser meals are allowed.

Eang between meals is not permi1ed.

Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59

are bound to fast.

Abstinence - On days of absnence, meat may not

be taken. The law of absnence binds all Catholics

14 years of age or older.

All Fridays in Lent are days of absnence.

If members of the Faithful are unable to observe the

fast and absnence regulaons because of ill health or

other reasons, they are urged to pracce other forms of penance and self-denial suitable to their condion.
