Message from the Pastor Welcome to St. Ambrose ! We are so glad you are able to join us today to celebrate The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. We like to imagine, sometimes, what the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph were like. What was their daily routine? How did they eat, work and pray together? There are very few details in the Gospels about Jesus’ early years, other than the accounts of his birth and one story detailing the time he went missing in Jerusalem and was found in the Temple. But in Today’s Gospel we get an insight into some of the early challenges faced by this little family. While Jesus was still small, Joseph was urged in a dream to escape with the family to Egypt as Jesus’ life was under threat. Can you imagine what that experience was like for them—leaving their home and fleeing to another country, not knowing when, or if, it would be safe to return home? Sadly, millions of people in our world do not have to imagine this type of experience—they live it every day. Like many others, the Holy Family were, for some time, forced to leave their home country due to persecution—this is the very definition of a refugee or displaced person. This painful human experience was at the very heart of the family experience of Jesus himself. Later in Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that when we welcome strangers, we welcome Jesus himself. Compassion and welcome for strangers, particularly those who are vulnerable, was a key element of Jesus’ life and ministry. It should be central to ours, too.

Have a great week—stay well—and keep smiling!

May God bless you always.

PASTOR’S MUSING What To Say About A Christmas Gift Your Not Crazy About:

10. Hey! There's a gift! 9. Well, well, well... 8. Boy, if I hadn’t recently shot up 4 sizes that would've fit. 7. This is perfect for wearing around the basement. 6. Gosh. I hope this never catches fire! It is fire season though.

There are lots of unexplained fires. 5. If the dog buries it, I'll be furious! 4. I love it -- but I fear the jealousy it will inspire. 3. Sadly, tomorrow I enter the Federal Witness Protection Program. 2. To think--I got this the year I vowed to give all my gifts to charity.

And the Number One Thing to say about a Christmas gift your not crazy about:

1. "I really don't deserve this."

“Take Time To. . .” “For everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under Heaven!” -Ecclesiastes 3:1

Take time to think. . . It is the source of power. Take time to play. . . It is the secret of perpetual youth.

Take time to read. . . It is the fountain of wisdom. Take time to pray. . . It is the greatest power on earth.

Take time to love and be loved. . .It is a God-given privilege. Take time to be friendly. . . I is the path to heaven. Take time to laugh. . . It is the music of the soul.

Take time to give. . It is too short a day to be selfish. Take time to work. . .It is the price of success. Take time for charity. . .It is the key to heaven.

Take time to give thanks. . .We have received all from God.

Today’s Thought: Welcome this new year with a smile, a spirit of giving, a sense of humanity and a pledge to spread peace and happiness.

We wish a Happy, Healthy, Safe and Blessed New Year to our Parish Family and Friends.

CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players showcases a handful of saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of western civilization. St. Francis of Assisi, the Reformer, radically and literally lived as Jesus commanded to transform the Church. St. Thomas Aquinas, the Theologian, demonstrated that faith and reason at not at odds, as they come from the same source.

St. Catherine of Siena, the Mystic, gave testimony to the reality of the spiritual dimension here and beyond. St. John Henry Newman, the Convert, left a prestigious career to seek and preach the apostolic faith. G.K. Chesterton, the Evangelist, publicly, humbly, and humorously announced the paradoxes and truth of Christianity. Michelangelo, the Artist, dramatically demonstrated that beauty and creativity are a primary route of access to God.

Journey with Bishop Barron to explore the lasting influence of these Pivotal Players. Our parish journey begins on Tuesday, January 7, and you can register at the parish office.

For more information, Contact Deacon Randy Millikin, 954-560-4027 or [email protected].

”I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is “Abortion“, because it is a war against the child… A direct killing of the innocent child, “Murder” by the mother herself… And if we can accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? How do we persuade a woman not to have an abortion? As always, we must

persuade her with love… And we remind ourselves that love means to be willing to give until it hurts…” – St. Mother Teresa

You must have made your Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation and present us with an updated Baptismal Certificate. You need to have a strong and abiding Faith that causes you to attend mass on a weekly basis. Thank you for your consideration.

Marriage Preparation All registered couples who wish to be married in a Catholic ceremony in Saint Ambrose church must first meet with Father Dariusz or Father James in preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage. It is advisable that couples not set a firm date for the wedding until they have attended this meeting. Individual appointments and confirmed dates

for marriage will not be set until after you attend this session. For information on the Archdiocesan guideline steps to receive the Sacrament of Marriage and for the Marriage Preparation course schedule please go to:

SAINT AMBROSE FOOD PANTRY Thank you to our Food Pantry Volunteers. Every Thursday morning from 8 am to 10 am, distributing food to the needy and homeless of our area. Thanks to all who respond so generously to our

requests. Although many answer our call, the need is still great. Please remember the food baskets and poor boxes as you leave Church. The poor and needy are always among us. Thank you for caring.

PARKING – HELP! We know parking becomes more difficult during the season and even worse during the Carnival but we need your help. Please park only in designated parking spaces. Do not block entrances or exits. Please do not block the entrances to the basketball court, and leave the designated handicapped parking spaces for those who are truly handicapped!
