Message from the Pastor Welcome to St. Ambrose ! We are so glad you are able to join us today to celebrate The Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. In today’s readings we find ourselves being drawn more deeply into relationship with Jesus. We are getting to know more about him as we see how he struggles with the news of his cousin John’s arrest. His first response is to withdraw, to leave Nazareth and go to Capernaum. There he is perhaps both consoled and challenged by the words of Isaiah that Matthew quotes: “the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, / on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death / light has arisen” (Matthew 4:16). Jesus contemplates his cousin’s death, perhaps his own death, and he seeks the light. Maybe it is these words of Isaiah that move Jesus out of his withdrawal and into action. He begins to preach, teach, cure disease and illness, and proclaim the gospel of the kingdom.

Have a great week—stay well—and keep smiling! May God bless you always.

PASTOR’S MUSING A new monk arrived at the monastery. He was assigned to help the other monks in copying the old texts by hand. He noticed, however, that they were copying copies, not the original books. The new monk went to the head monk to ask him about this. He pointed out that if there were an error in the first copy, that error would be continued in all of the copies. The head monk said “We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, my son.” The head monk went down into the cellar with one of the copies to check it against the original. Hours later, nobody had seen him. He heard a sobbing coming from the back of the cellar and found the old monk leaning over one of the original books, crying. He asked what was wrong. “The word is ‘celebrate’,” said the head monk.

Thank You!!! We thank you for your spectacular generosity.

Your generous support of our Parish and your help with the needs of our community through your ongoing participation in

our various ministries is greatly appreciated! January 18th & 19th 2020—$21,118.00

Second Collection—$5,001.00 Second Collections

Each weekend at St. Ambrose we have second collection at our Masses. Those collections have two purposes. Once

each month the Archbishop designates a second collection for different needs (example: Peter’s Pence, Retired Religious,

Seminary Burse). The rest of these collections are to meet the special needs of our Parish and School.

SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: Third Sunday in Ordinary Time; Sunday of the Word of God; Catholic Schools Week Monday: St. Angela Merici Tuesday: St. Thomas Aquinas Friday: St. John Bosco Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary; First Saturday

B.L.E.S.S. Ministry IS EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE Pro-Life Meditations on the Mysteries of the Rosary Every Wednesday Morning at 10:35 am in The Church Chapel. “The rosary is a devotion strongly embraced by the pro-life movement. This is so for good reasons, be-cause in the Hail Mary we praise a mother, and we worship the fruit of her womb. Our salvation began because a mother said yes to the life within her! In the rosary we also say, "Pray for US” sinners." We don't point the finger at others, but rather at ourselves. We know that sin that is in the world, but we start by repenting of the sin within us. That is the best way to rebuild the Culture of Life.”

- Fr. Frank Pavone

HEART In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.

Join Father Dariusz and fellow parishioners this fall on a memorable journey to attend the world-famous Passion Play. It is performed by the Bavarian town of Oberammergau every ten years as promised to our Lord back in 1634 for spar-ing the town from the terrible Black plague. Other trips highlights include:

Exploring Munich with its famous mechanical clock with life size dancing figures, the Olympic Village, and the summer Palace of the Bavarian rulers.

Enjoy Salzburg, seeing the birthplace of Mozart and the setting of the Sound of Music. Visit the castle of King Ludwig, the most visited in Germany. And much more.

Departing September 21 to October 1, 2020 it is an experience of a lifetime. We must book this trip within the next two weeks in order to secure the tickets to the Passion Play as they sellout. The anticipated cost is $3,500 per person. If interested, please call the Parish Office and leave your name and number.

SAINT AMBROSE FOOD PANTRY Thank you to our Food Pantry Volunteers. Every Thursday morning from 8 am to 10 am, distributing food to the needy and homeless of our area. Thanks to all who respond so generously to our

requests. Although many answer our call, the need is still great. Please remember the food baskets and poor boxes as you leave Church. The poor and needy are always among us. Thank you for caring.

PARKING – HELP! We know parking becomes more difficult during the season and even worse during the Carnival but we need your help. Please park only in designated parking spaces. Do not block entrances or exits. Please do not block the entrances to the basketball court, and leave the designated handicapped parking spaces for those who are truly handicapped!
