O LORD, BE MY HELP Today we encounter readings that draw us into the mystery of suffering and death. In the past few years we have witnessed the devastation of life and property through earthquakes and hurricanes. So many lifted their lament to God, simply asking, “Why?” This is an honest expression of anger toward a God who we believe is the giver of life. When we lose a loved one, we can wonder why the presence of Christ is not enough to make that person rise, even from death, as did the little girl in today’s Gospel passage. Again we raise our voices and ask, “Why?” At moments such as these, let us make the prayer of the psalmist our own: “Hear, O LORD, and have pity on me; O LORD, be my helper.” Let us pray that our mourning will one day be turned into dancing. St. Anne’s Vision, Mission and Values Statements

Dear Parishioners:

Over the past six months our Pastoral Council has been working on articulating and updating St. Anne’s Vision, Mission

and Values statements. The Archdiocese calls on each parish to review and update these important statements to help

focus and direct efforts and ministries within a parish. It’s been a prayerful and discerning process -- one that has

involved much discussion and reflection.

I’d like to introduce to you to some preliminary thinking on these. In this effort, we have created:

- Vision Statement: Who and what we want to be

- Mission Statement: The purpose of our being

- Values: The behaviors that will drive our mission and help to accomplish our vision

While we’re very excited to share these with you, we know that these statements can only come to life if they are

discussed, modeled and communicated regular. In the fall, we are planning to discuss these new statements as a parish in

more depth and engage everyone on these new statements. Our hope is to continue to do the things in our parish that

support our vision and mission, while also using these statements to create new opportunities for people to encounter

Christ.

I invite you to read and study these statements. As a family, perhaps discuss these questions:

1. Is St. Anne’s a haven of God’s love, grace and hope for my family? How can I help make it a haven for others?

2. Do I foster a sacramental life within my own life? Within my family? Do I see out good teaching?

3. Which of these value statements do I live by? Which ones do I want to grow in? Individually and as a family?

Let me know if you have any feedback. Finally, a big thank you to our Pastoral Council for their work on this initiative.

We will be welcoming in new Council members, James Chapman and Matt Berg this month. Thank you again to Tom

Binder and Denise Ehr for their service. Stay tuned for more information on this in the coming months.

God’s Blessings,

Fr. Bob
