WINTER SOLSTICE December 21, 2017

“The winter solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year,” the National Weather Service says. “In the Northern Hemisphere, it occurs when the sun is directly over the Tropic of Capricorn, which is located at 23.5° south of the equator and runs through Australia, Chile, southern Brazil, and northern South Africa.” The Northern Hemisphere -- which includes the U.S. -- is tipped at its furthest point away from the sun when the winter solstice takes place, according to NASA.

Not everyone around the world will experience the phenomenon on Dec. 21; the Southern Hemisphere will have its summer solstice, the longest day of the year, instead.

Upcoming Events:

The Knights will serve breakfast AND brunch on December 17th (Today) [pancakes and eggs after the 8:00 a.m. Mass; then hamburgers and tacos fol-lowing the 10:00 a.m. and noon Masses]. Pancakes are still only $5 for adults and $4 for children. Breakfast tacos are 2 for $3. Hamburgers are $6 (includes fries). Bring the whole family! The Knights will distribute copies of the book, Rediscover Jesus by Matthew Kelly following Masses on Christmas Day. Kelly is an internationally acclaimed speaker, author, and business consultant. At a time when so many people are spiritually disillusioned and searching for ways to live, love, work, and play that nurture the soul rather than destroy it, Matthew Kelly once again delivers a powerful book that encourages us in our weariness, challenges us in our comfort, and invites us to rediscover the beautiful possibilities God places before us daily. Rediscover Jesus is a profound invitation to seek deeply personal answers to our deeply personal questions. Each page seems to effortlessly reach into every aspect our lives, providing spiritual wisdom and practical insights that help us to know both Jesus and ourselves in a new way. Some books find us at just the right time, and those books change our lives forever. Rediscover Jesus is one of those books.

ADORATION

ADORATION AWARENESS

“And the Word became flesh and made his dwell-

ing among us" – John 1:14

AS WE AWAIT JESUS DURING ADVENT, JESUS AWAITS US IS IN THE TABERNACLE

“Jesus, my God, I adore You, here present in the Blessed Sacrament of the altar, where You wait day and night to be our comfort while we await Your unveiled presence in heaven."

- John J. Cardinal Carberry "When the Sisters are exhausted, up to their eyes in work; when all seems to go awry, they spend an hour in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. This practice has never failed to bear fruit: they experience peace and strength." - Mother Teresa of Calcutta

During Advent, go to the Fountain of Peace and spend some time with Jesus in adoration.

Due to the anticipation of many adorers being out of town for Christmas, there will be no scheduled adoration from Monday, December 18th through Tuesday, January 2nd. Scheduled adoration will resume on Wednesday, January 3rd.

More adorers are needed and are always welcome. Adoration is available for all at the scheduled times. If you would like to sign up for a weekly Hour of adoration, please contact: Kathryn Dawson (281-351-0571) or Marty Lang ([email protected] )
