PASTOR Dear Friends: Our Totus Tuus program led by the Team of: Briana Roberts, Derek Probst, Grady Stuckman, and Marie Jeppesen was
a wonderful success – thanks to your prayers. There are many people to thank for their active support and involvement
which contributed to the success and smooth running of this program: those who provided food for the potluck; those
who provided snacks. Thanks to: Grant & Andrea Schultes for hosting and housing the two girls of the Team; Mike &
Annette Lorenzen, Scott & Erin Hochstein, Veronica Brantz, Kelly & Amanda Sherer, Mike & Niki Dworak for providing
meals to the Team. We had good kitchen help and service provided by Priscilla McGrath, Cynthia Lopez & daughter
Yazmin, Joe Esser, Michele Wilson, Barb Schulte and Erin Hochstein. Thanks also to Duane Straight for providing sweet
corn and home-made ice cream. Lots of thanks to those who have directly supported the program financially. One of the
fun activities enjoyed by all was the water balloon fight: John Dworak, Danny Fagan and Yazmin Lopez spent much time
filling the water balloons, thank you! Much special thanks and appreciation to our Faith Formation Directors - Annette
Lorenzen and Joe Esser - thank you for the many hours of planning, coordinating and laying the foundation. All together we
had about 44 participants from both parishes. There is no doubt that Totus Tuus participants derive much joy, enjoyment,
fun, learning and knowledge from the program. Thank you everybody. Enjoy the summer vacation. God bless you all! Our Faith Formation program will resume (St. Anne’s) Wednesday August 30th at 6:45 pm; St. Patrick’s will be
Wednesday September 6th at 6:30 pm. I would like to introduce Kyle Haffey who is taking over from Joe Esser as Faith
Formation Director for St. Anne’s. Kyle and his wife Jennifer have been actively involved in the parish since they moved to
the area in 2012. They have three children: Micaela, 14, Jack, 10 and Benjamin, 8. Kyle and Jennifer are actively involved in
various parish ministries, including EMHC, Catechists – 3-4th grade and High School, and adult faith formation group leader-
ship. Micaela and Jack participate as Altar Servers. Kyle is also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and currently serves as
Deputy Grand Knight for St. Anne’s. He is a member of the Logan Volunteer Fire Rescue Association where he serves as
an EM and the EMS Captain for the department. He has also volunteered for other community activities such as Youth
Soccer, Flag Football and the Jim Wood Aquatic Center Pool Board. Jennifer has been a member of the LOMA Teacher-
Support Organization and was responsible for making chaplets for the RE Classes, as well as volunteering for a number of
events in the community and the parish including craft fairs, the Kellen Fun Run and Pack the Park. Kyle is excited to bring
and share his faith and pass it on to our young people. He looks forward to putting together a good program for our young
people so as to inspire, guide and keep them close to church and community throughout their lives: a program to help
them continue their catholic faith even when away at college. Let us all be supportive in this endeavor of passing on the
faith the Good Lord gifted us. We warmly welcome Kyle with encouragement, prayer, and enthusiasm in this wonderful
and worthwhile ministry. Joe Esser will continue to be involved in the program as a teacher. We wholeheartedly thank him for his many years of
service in directing this ministry. We thank him for the dedication, energy and enthusiasm he brought to the program.
There’s much talent and giftedness we can tap from and within our parish communities. We owe lots of thanks to all those
who are always willing to share their time and talent. To our two parishes: thank you to all the parents in Home and
School, Catechists, all the volunteer staff, all those who in any way give their time, talent and service in this ministry and
those who host coffee and rolls. All these people are truly dedicated Catholics who are giving of themselves for our young
people. We are truly grateful and blest. We continue to keep as our goal the best effort to teach our children and young
people about Jesus and his teaching and to teach about the richness of our Roman Catholic faith. Let us all work together
toward offering the best possible spiritual formation and transformation in a safe Christ-centered Catholic environment.
Let us pray that this will be a very fruitful year for both students and teachers of RE as well as those in schools and college.
May they truly grow in their love and knowledge of God. If any parishioner is interested in being part of any of this process
and ministry, please feel free and welcome to call the parish office. Who knows...? Perhaps God is calling you “from
worship into service.” Think about it. Something to think about:
“First, talk to God about your children - then talk to your children about God.”
Peace and Blessings to you! Fr. Masabakhwa, R.

HOWEVER…
The MV Knights of Columbus thank all parishioners
who have supported them in their effort to provide
wheelchairs to those who need them by donating
Best Choice UPC symbols over the past several
years. Since the start of the program, MV Knights
have been able to purchase 3 chairs. That may not
sound like a lot, but to the recipients, it was every-
thing! Thank you!
Sadly, the Best Choice UPC program has been
discontinued. The Knights are NO LONGER
collecting the bar codes from Best Choice products.
HOWEVER, they are participating in a new program.
The Knights are now collecting receipts from
SpartanNash grocery stores. The receipts
accumulate points which can then be redeemed for
cash. Please put your entire, ORIGINAL, cash
register receipt (NO photocopies) from
Family Fare, No-Frills, SunMart or other
SpartanNash grocer in the designated box.
The goal is to accumulate 150,000 points. This will
translate to $1000 and enable the Knights to buy 6
new wheelchairs! As always your help and support is
greatly appreciated.
Recharge your parish women’s group with the custom-designed program from the National Council of Catholic
Women. The event will be held at St. Augustin Parish in Des Moines Saturday, September 23, beginning with coffee and rolls at
8:30. Program will be from 9:00 until 3:30.
$30 registration includes lunch. To register, contact Carolyn Smith at 712-527-4206 or
[email protected]. Check us out at www.desmoinesdccw.org/leadership-
training-development and register online.
