From The Pastor’s Desk We say goodbye to Fr. Kumar this weekend. We thank

him for all he has done here at St. Anthony’s. We all will miss him.

We welcome Fr. Heniston into our family this weekend. Fr. Heniston will be replacing Fr. Kumar’s position. I am sure you will give a big welcome to him. It’s his first time in America and he probably is a little shy. Warm him up with a big St. Anthony’s welcome!

Meanwhile, I must get back to my usual macaroni and meatballs!

Fr. George *

A NOTE FROM FR. KUMAR It is time to say good-bye to you now. I am very saddened to leave you. However, the thought that I am only going to be just two and a half hours away from you and that I will be able to visit you now and then, consoles me. As I mentioned in my note earlier, my first assignment here in the States is St. Anthony’s and I have been here at our parish for almost twelve years. You are my FIRST LOVE. Therefore, you are very, very special to me and to my heart. I thank God for giving this beautiful opportunity to serve you. I want to take this opportunity to thank Fr. George for his special love, friendship and guidance. I also want to thank Fr. Michael Guarino who invited me to come to St. Anthony’s and serve in this parish. I also thank Fr. Xavier for his love and brotherhood. I thank you and the staff of St. Anthony’s for all you are and have been to me in these twelve years. I am very grateful to you for all your love, care, support and prayers. I request each and every one of you to hold me in your prayers as I will be taking on this new assignment and adventure. Thank you and God bless you. Fr. Kumar.

+ OUR PARISH THEME SONG

Lord, you have come to the seashore, neither searching for the rich nor the wise, desiring only that I should follow.

O Lord, with your eyes set up on me gently smiling, You have spoken my name; all I longed for I have found by

THE Fourth SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

THOUGHTS WHILE WALKING… “…faith without works is dead” (James 2:20) Faith that is Alive Did you know that faith can be alive or dead? Dead faith does not do anything There are a lot of people who love God, but they are not overcoming obstacles or accomplishing their God-given dreams simply because they are not putting any action behind their fiath. Their faith is simply dead. What can you do today to keep your faith alive? It does not have to be something big. By simply obeying God’s word and doing your best, you are keeping your faith alive. When you go to work every day and give it 100%, you are demonstrating your faith. Sometimes just putting a smile on your face when you feel discouraged is putting action behind your faith. Taking time to go to church – that is faith that is alive. That is faith that activates God’s power. That is faith that opens the door for God to move on your behalf! With faith that is alive, you will rise up higher. You will overcome obstacles, and you will move forward into the blessing and victory God has in store for you! A Prayer for Today Heavenly Father, I thank You for this day. I thank You for the many blessings You have bestowed upon me and my family. I thank You for Your word which is light and life to my soul. Show me the ways to put my Faith into action. Guide my steps and keep me close toYou so that everything I do brings honor and glory to You in Your Holy Name. I ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen. Compiled and edited by Fr. Kumar

SAINT BLAISE, BISHOP AND MARTYR FEBRUARY 3

St. Blaise was born at Sebaste, Armenia. He became a physician but at the same time devoted himself to the practice of his Christian duties. His virtuous conduct gained him the esteem of the Christian clergy and people to such a degree, that he was ordained and selected bishop of his native city. Henceforth he devoted himself to ward off the dangers of souls as he had been intent on healing their bodies. During the reign of Emperor Licinius a cruel persecution of Christians broke out. The persecutors directed their fury principally against the bishops knowing that if the shepherd is stricken, the flock is dispersed. St. Blaise hid himself in a cave. But one day the prefect Agricola discovered the holy bishop and brought him before the Emperor. St. Blaise remained steadfast in the Faith. The cruel tyrant had him bound and tortured with iron combs. After suffering much torment with great patience and meekness, the Saint was cast into prison. His jailer permitted the holy bishop to receive visitors in his prison and many sick and suffering availed themselves of this privilege. He cured some of them and gave good advice to others. One day a mother brought to him her boy, who, while eating had swallowed a fishbone which remained in his throat, and causing great pain and threatened suffocation. St. Blaise prayed and made the Sign of the Cross over the boy, and behold, he was cured. For this reason, the Saint is invoked in throat trouble. The holy bishop was again brought before the judge and commanded to sacrifice to the idols. But he said, “Thou art blind, because thou art not illuminated by the true light. How can a man sacrifice to idols, when he adores the true God alone? I do not hear thy threats. Do with me according to thy pleasure. My body is in thy power, but God alone has power over my soul. Thou seekest salvation with the idols: I hope and trust to receive it from the only true and living God who I adore.” Then the prefect sentenced him to death. St. Blaise was beheaded, suffering death for the Faith on February 3, 316.
