PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS
Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)- A brief Thought
Each of the readings today, Exodus, Hebrews, and Mark’s Gospel uses the word covenant - promise. Jesus’ promise to be with us always is fulfilled in the Eucharist. At the Passover meal, Jesus took the bread; blessed it, broke it, gave it to his disciples, and He gave it to us. We are blessed to eat the Bread of Life when we gather for Mass as a faithful, faith-filled community, but Eucharist doesn’t end at the closing hymn. We are sent forth to spread the Good News: Go!
Eucharistic Ministers Needed
We need people who may be interested in becoming Eu-charistic ministers. Right now we are in shortage of ministers for weekend’s liturgies and for bringing Holy Communion to the sick people the first Friday of each month. Those interest-ed, please call the parish office or see Fr Armando for more information.
Jesus in Boston –Young Adult Event
All Young Adults and College Students are invited to join us on Friday, June 26th at 7:30pm for our monthly “Jesus in Boston” event. We will be at St. Leonard’s Parish in the North End for Eucharistic Adoration followed by Holy Mass and then a social gathering afterwards. It’s a great way to meet new people and strengthen your interior life. For more information please email Mike Drahos at [email protected]

Reflection on the Gospel
By Fr. Mark Escobar, C.S.
The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
“Take it; this is my body . . . This is my blood of the covenant
which will be shed for many. Amen, I say to you, I shall not
drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new
in the kingdom of God.”
As today’s liturgy explores Christ’s call for com-munion and discipleship, unity and service, the solem-nity of the Body and Blood of Christ presents to us the whole network of redemptive relationship that defines who we are to Christ and his essence or reason to our journey of faith. There are, of course, other highlights that we refer to this feast of Corpus Christi. However, there is one fundamental issue that embraces its signifi-cance to our lives. And that is our common goal – to be united with Christ in his great love for us. His total giving of himself is such a radical expression of love that enables us to understand the meaning of his teach-ings. Both concrete and symbolic, human and divine, his life and ministry provide us with a new covenant that makes it clear that he loves us and we share with his mission.
As we situate the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper, it is important to keep in mind some rem-nants of the past at the time it happened. It was the night before the Passover supper and the Jews would gather in the synagogue to remember the goodness of the Lord and give him thanks for liberating them from slavery. In other words, it was a very significant occa-sion for them. It was one way of memorializing that event with worship and gratitude to God. From slavery to freedom and from unity to the promised land, Israel-ites became whole again. As a thanksgiving memorial of the paschal event of the Exodus, Sinai and the arrival in the Promised Land, a lamb is sacrificed because through the lamb’s blood they were spared and saved from destruction.
Now the words and actions of Christ at the final meal with his disciples evoke the same meaning of re-demption. It highlights the mystery of the new cove-nant that he is the final symbol of animal sacrificed dur-ing the Passover as the Suffering Servant who offers his life for all. The four actions: taking, blessing, breaking and sharing are very much part of the Passover feast. Giving praise and thanks are the basic elements of the Jewish table supplications. Jesus takes the Passover sacrificial theme through offering himself as a Suffering Servant. The language of love for humanity refers the bread to his own body: “This is my body (my whole self) and the wine to his own blood: “This is my blood (my whole self) emphasizes his self-giving which has a tone of salvation; a salvific meaning. And his passage from death on the cross and resurrection from the dead evidently speaks volumes about his sacrificial offering because of his great love for us. It was a meal that be-came the basis of what we now call the Eucharist.
